President Barack Obama on Thursday brushed aside concerns that he favors socialism, saying in an interview with Univision that his policies are so mainstream that he would have been considered a moderate Republican in the 1980s.
Via the transcript of the interview by Alina Mayo Azze of "Noticias Univision 23" in Miami:
AMA: One issue that Cuban-Americans are worried about is, they believe that you favor a socialist model for our country. Cubans and Venezuelans especially because of what they have gone through. What do you think of that?
PBO: I don't know that there are a lot of Cubans or Venezuelans, Americans who believe that. The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I had back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican. I mean,

Obama not a Socialist? What, next, Joe Stalin did not run Gulags?
He is a shyster.
He surrounds himself with communists, marxists, socialists and known terrorists. His actions speak far louder than his words about who he is. His voters speak volumes about who they are as well.
Controlling the private sector thru excessive taxation and regulation is ‘Corporatism’.
Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power
Benito Mussolini (Italian dictator, 1883-1945)
No Republican in the 1980’s would consider ‘Corporatism’ (which is the correct term) an acceptable American system unless they were a ‘Plant’ from the ‘Progressives’.
He’s not a socialist, he just favours redistribution of wealth, cradle to grave welfare state and a bogus green economy. I see. Great clarification.
Not a socialist: A Mao-mau muzzie.
Of course not.
Just as he said he doesn’t support reparations because they do no go far enough (he wants to take ALL the earnings and assets of every American and give them to his voters), he is not a socialist because socialism does not go far enough.
That’s why he is a communist.
************
yeah... yeah....
He's not a liar either...
I don’t even know what he’s talking about. Republicans were more like Democrats of today in the 80s? Wha?
They’ve been comparing him to Reagan since 08. Not as much as Lincoln, but that’s because they lacked the Illinois thing, which gave the latter comparison a sliver of credibility (there was also Lincoln’s inexperience and dictatorial ambitions, but those went unremarked upon). I never understood it, except that Reagan was popular and they wanted Obama to he popular, too.
Maybe it had something to do with there having been a recession in 80, and a war in Afghanistan, too. Who cares?
“Obama: I’m not a socialist”
Nixon: I’m not a crook!
Clinton: I didn’t have sex with that woman!
Blah, blah, blah.
Jedi Mind Trick. “I’m not a socialist”
“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for”
And the MSM and most of the ignorant unwashed masses will believe it.
Isn’t this what Castro said when he rode into Havana in 1959?
“Corporatism” seems better because “fascism” has been perhaps forever corrupted by misuse. It misses, however, the nationalistic and World Police aspect of our form of government, which fascism properly addresses. Also, it implies, to some ears at least, that either the state invariably favors corporations, or that corporations own the state (the correct term for that would be “plutocracy,” I think). In fact fascist/corporatist government punishes private business as much as it subsidizes them. It gives with one hand and slaps with the other. It favors Big Business here, unions there, small business round the bend, and the masses all the way home.
Point is, it controls the economy through regulation if large groups of things, which may or may not benefit corporations. Which is why I say the terminology confuses some. One thing is clear: fascism, corporatism, syndicalism, etc. are all forms of socialism.
