LONDON Its the million-dollar question, and not only here in the U.K. Jacintha Saldana one of the nurses taken in by the prank phone call to the hospital where Catherine, duchess of Cambridge, was being treated for acute morning sickness killed herself early Friday. And we are all left scratching our heads. Why did she do it?
Of course, the first thing we all wonder is about her mental stability. Wed all desperately like to believe that this hard-working mother of two, who commuted 140 miles to her day job, often working double shifts so that she could spend more time with her family must have some deep, dark secret to hide. Because then the rest of us could at least explain away an event that is, as the chairman of King Edward VII Hospital put it, tragic beyond words.
But from what we know, there is no sign that Saldana was suicidal, unstable or psychologically frail before she took her own life this week. Shy and nervous? Yes. But so depressed she was suicidal? Doesnt sound right, at least according to those who knew Saldana, who was described at work as an excellent nurse, well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.
Maybe she faced some kind of severe sanction from the hospital where she worked? Maybe the hospital blamed her for falling for a hoax in which two Australian DJs masquerading as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles managed to fool the diligent but non-native English speaker, who subsequently passed the phone call on to the Duchesss private nurse, who then revealed details about the duchesss condition?

It really doesn’t make a lot of sense that she would have killed herself over such a silly mistake.
Almost an implication that a worker should have a command of the native language before being put in a position of responsibility and authority. If she can't answer the phone, should she be handing out meds written in a language she can't speak very well and possibly can't read either? What about following doctor orders?
Wow, the Washington Compost is wondering why and how something happened! Maybe there’s hope for a little story on Benghazi someday! /sarc.

I have unfortunately known a few people that committed suicide. No one saw it coming. They rarely do. Sadly this poor women’s family will now be the subject if an idiotic press “inquiry”
“according to those who knew Saldana, who was described at work as an excellent nurse, well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.
Personally, I do rather blame those DJs. I’m sick of people pranking others. I hope they feel sick about this for the rest of their lives, and lay off this adolescent behavior.
I don't think they intended any harm, but that's just the thing about practical jokes. They're funny until someone takes one the wrong way.
Agreed. That “prank” turned out to be really, really stupid. No excuse for that kind of behavior.
Sad she died. But that’s about it. As far as anything about the “royal” family is concerned...I could care less.
I haven’t seen it reported how she died. Pills, hanging, what? Adjusting my tin foil hat, but how did they know immediately it was suicide? The grey suits helped send Di over the edge so did she get a visit by the palace guard that isn’t being told? Besides, she wasn’t the one who gave out Kate’s medical information. She answered the initial call and transferred it to the ward nurse who spoke the most with the djs. Or perhaps it had nothing to do with the incident. Despite the amount of coverage it’s getting, there are very few facts about the incident.
I have always believed and taught my children that deriving joy at the expense of another is sinful. Too many people think nothing of how their actions may affect others..selfish, uncaring and without compassion. Usually they find that what goes around comes around.
How much less could you care? I believe the adage is “I couldn’t care less”, meaning you don’t give a rats a$$....
One of my husband’s favorite lines at our house: It’s not fun unless it’s fun for EVERYBODY!!
This was supposedly a “practical joke”. Practical jokes are never funny as far as I am concerned.
To make things worse for this poor woman, she was still learning English and British culture. And therefore; in no way, could she have distinguished one British accent from another British accent. As an American, I could not have either.

“A practical joke is a mischievous trick or joke played on someone, typically causing the victim to experience embarrassment, indignity, or discomfort.”
And yes, these 2 jerks need to be punished. Jail sounds good.
I’d imagine crossing the elites is not fun.
I make an exception for Obama voters.
