Two of the Republican Party's most prominent voices, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, laid out their visions for broadening the GOP's economic message in dual speeches Tuesday, as conservatives seek new moorings in the aftermath of Mitt Romney's presidential defeat last month.
The speeches revealed Mr. Ryan and Mr. Rubio—respectively, the party's most recent vice-presidential nominee and a freshman senator seen as a rising star—moving briskly to rebrand both themselves and their party at a time of debate and introspection over how to steer the GOP in a new direction.
The men, both seen as potential 2016 presidential hopefuls, used a packed awards dinner hosted by the Jack Kemp Foundation to lay out their views on the role of government in strengthening the middle class and assisting the poor.
Mr. Ryan's speech was his first since his loss as part of the GOP presidential ticket a month ago. Some of their remarks came off as subtle jabs at Mr. Romney and his contention during the campaign that 47% of Americans were irredeemably reliant on government aid.
"Some say that…too manypeople want things from government," said Mr. Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants. "But I am still convinced that the overwhelming majority of our people just want what my parents had: a chance."
Mr. Ryan noted that the late Mr. Kemp—his onetime mentor, a congressman and a predecessor as a GOP vice-presidential nominee—"hated the idea that any part of America could be written off."
Conservatives have criticized the Romney campaign for focusing so heavily on small-business owners and for not making a convincing case for how his ideas would benefit the poor and the working class.

We need a new party. The GOPe would rather lose than win the right way.
Oh my Holy H***. A “re-branding”???? Therein lies the problem. They think it’s a product like a floor cleaner and not a Political Party.
The difficulty of forming a third party was illustrated by the treatment of Freepers who spoke disparagingly of Romney during this past election cycle. “We” talk tough now but “we” folded like a cheap suit recently.
I say a new party.
Or else the existing GOP turns a 180, on a dime, and comes out in support of American jobs.
Which isn’t likely.

Yup. Too many simply think this is ‘politics as usual.
Screw ‘rebranding’ and screw the GOP. Conservatives need to separate from them.
The GOP is nothing more than the new Judenrat to the MarxoFascists - helping them purge from politics, any Conservative voice.
The GOP are Collaborators with the enemy, nothing is worth salvaging or ‘rebranding’.
The party is ‘dead’ to Conservatives and they made that point abundantly clear beginning on Tuesday at the RNC in August - and then this past week with Boehner stripping Conservatives of their committee chairs.
We need to be thinking past elections anyway. We’re under enemy occupation.
We better start thinking like it.
Mr. Rubio, Mr. Ryan, I do not care what you do, because no matter what you do America loses.
Good luck in getting others to vote for you, because I’m not going to.
Until someone stands for the values that I was taught when I grew up, then I’m not interested, and I do not care what happens to this country, because it is no longer the country I once knew.

Conservatives need to open their eyes, for once.
The GOP isn’t rebranding, they are doing what they’ve done for decades, ignore the Conservatives because we have nowhere else to go. They demonstrated this again by kicking Conservatives from committees.
This Conservative left the GOP years ago, because I’m not an idiot. It’s passed time ALL Conservatives leave the GOP and start a new party. It’s our only chance. If that destroys the GOP, good, that’s a nice start. If that means more Dems get elected in the next cycles or two, so be it. Things will fall part quickly, but that will happen regardless. We may as well get it over with so we can start over.
If we’re all going after the same crowd, then, a re-branding is mandatory.
So, may I suggest:
“The Party Formerly Known as the Republican Party”?
Or, “Not So Conservative Anymore Party”
Or, “If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them Party”
Or, “It’s The Only Way To Get Them To Love Us Party”
Or, “The Less Liberal Wing of The Democratic Party”
Or, “We’re Doomed Without the 47% Party”.
I wonder what Messrs. Ryan and Rubio think about Boehner’s purges of conservatives from House finance committees. Don’t rebrand, RELOCATE!
Or, “We Wonder What Obama Has Promised Boehner Party”?
The voters are the brand— if they can string together two sentences and voice their fiscal aim, which unifies the electorate and whom have no interest in going the way of Greece.
Start there, and don’t blow it after that. Address the occuring collapse. Nothing else sees the light of day without saving America first, from collapse.
THAT, is the brand.
But they are playing the media’s game again. I know this won’t happen, but either the GOP or a third party needs to specify their exact plan and budget for the next election. Then find people or incumbants to run on that.
And step one is to withdraw from the House GOP caucus and force out Bayner. Now.
Repeat: won’t happen. Rubio and Ryan aren’t doing any of that.
We can no longer look to DC to solve this mess.
