McConnell 'Burst Into Laughter' as Geithner Outlined Obama's Plan
The Weekly Standard ^ | November 29,2012 | FRED BARNES

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, says he “burst into laughter” Thursday when Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner outlined the administration proposal for averting the fiscal cliff. He wasn’t trying to embarrass Geithner, McConnell says, only responding candidly to his one-sided plan, explicit on tax increases, vague on spending cuts.

Geithner’s visit to his office left McConnell discouraged about reaching a “balanced” deal on tax hikes and spending reductions designed to prevent a shock to the economy in January. “Nothing good is happening” in the negotiations, McConnell says, because of Obama’s insistence on tax rate hikes for the wealthy but unwillingness to embrace serious spending cuts

Geithner suggested $1.6 trillion in tax increases, McConnell says, but showed “minimal or no interest” in spending cuts. When congressional leaders went to the White House three days after the election, Obama talked of possible curbs on the explosive growth of food stamps and Social Security disability payments. But since Geithner didn’t mention them, those reductions appear to be off the table now, McConnell says.

Nearly 30% of today’s Social Security expenditures go to people who are below retirement age. My entire adult life, I have been told that Social Security will remain in the black until 2017. But with this President, it went into the red seven years ahead of schedule. If Social Security is to be saved in any way, shape, or form, we must return it to what it was originally intended to be - a program for retirees only.

Obama wants 1.6T in new taxes (over 10 yrs?)

Even with a $1.6 trillion increase in revenue over the next decade, his own budget projections will give us a total debt approaching $30 trillion.

"My Comment: This is how we ended up giving TAX REFUNDS to people who paid NO TAXES! It's called the "Earned Income Tax Credit"!!!"

Simple enough: Pay for Bobocare by directly taking it out of these people's EITC.

"Lessee, minus your 2K Obamacare penalty you have a refund due of 48 cents. Would you like a fast loan on that?"

Retest every SSI claim -- the death care panelists can do the recertification as a warm-up. Restest all of them.

“Then say ‘this stops the automatic cuts and the major tax hikes, so sign it’ and go home.”

Why won’t they do that?

Just asking.

Many here on FR hate the Republicans and want them to die, and so do the Democrats.

You say that like it's a bad thing...

The fact we’re so inured to all these secret meetings (Benghazi, debt ceiling, fiscal cliff, 0care, etc) is proof of a wide problem that has no solution within our current paradigm. We won’t win another national election, and we won’t ever win anything in DC. If we have ever won anything in the past, it won’t happen again. We have a wannabe dictatorship in DC. It’s not just 0 either. It’s all of them.

The good men and women on the Hill are wasting their time, being played as fools, and, ultimately, just being used to present an illusion. What’s going to be done by the elites is going to be done. The true conservatives up there think their vote and their debate maters, and the people back home think the same. Their pawns, propping up a fake republic.

The good news is we have states with governments, leadership, infrastructure, economies, and the ability to self govern. MOST of these states are filled with people who have no desire to be governed the way DC is governing (every county in my state has been red since 2004). It’s time we completely, totally, and thoroughly give up the fight in DC and use our states to fight against DC. There’s no reason Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Mississippi, on and on should have to be governed the way the losers in Philadelphia want to be governed.

This is just Act 2 from the leading men in the GOP. We’ve seen this 50 day long theatrical production again and again over the past couple of years.

Act 1 is Boehner beginning the narration of the story of how he wants the president to lead and that Boehner is ready to concede to some demands.

Act 2 is that Boehner and McConnell act like conservative stalwarts who won’t give in to the President’s outrageous demands. This happens about 20 days into the production and gives conservatives the false hope that the GOP is not going to cave.

Act 3 begins with about 20 days left in the production; before the deadline or before the curtain closes. Act 3 is where Obama starts to lower his asking price and Boehner and McConnell gain a new found respect for Obama and begin to try to sell a “encouraging” deal.

Act 4 begins with about 12 days left in the production. This is when Boehner and McConnell start to twist the arms off of their caucus, and gather up the robotic arm twisting RINOs to threaten and lambast all naysayers in the caucus and go to all the liberal media outlets especially Politico and put forth the scoop about who Boehner’s friends are and who aren’t Boehner’s friends (i.e. those who will be left to whither on the vine come the next election)

Act 5 is about 3 days before the final curtain, when Boehner has whipped everyone in the GOP into shape and Obama grabs all the remaining crumbs he can to add to his already favorable feast of a deal. There is GOP grumbling and lying while the GOP goes along with a deal that is advertised one way, and then during the encore and review everyone learns that is was even a worse deal than originally thought.

since the house is responsible for the purse, why don’t the repubs start a bill to fund the military and send it to the senate, then a bill to cut the taxes for the middle class and send it to the senate...

and cut the spending themselves and send it to the senate...

the repubs deserve everything they get...

was talking about this earlier to a group of people.

maybe they should call bozo’s bluff, let the taxes go up and see the debt not go down and that way the GOP should say in two years his plan did not work , he did not do spending and it;s been a disaster.

That way we cannot be blamed for not working wiht him or not have the snide remarks in two years to come back and let the left do their usual crap.

After all how many voted for this and have money?

BTW This is a thought so don;t all or some of you get mad

We aren't even facing the basic conflict.

Democrats are all about hate and class warfare. They don't give a rat's patoot about the country, the economy, or anything else. Just punish the Kulaks and take what they want for themselves. Rinse and repeat.

We are all about growth. That is why we try to defend lower tax burdens for all, including the wealthy, because that's where a lot of growth comes from. When there is growth, there is more of everything for everyone, and a way forward toward balancing the budget and a better future.

The conflict has gone right by us. We are negotiating with an adversary about what we think are economic goals we share, in order to avoid hardship and destruction. But the reality is that is exactly what these people want, a destroyed United States.

Unless and until our side starts to get honest, and accuse the president of desiring to destroy capitalism and of being a champion of communism, WE HAVE NOTHING. You can't win the class warfare argument defending tax cuts for the wealthy. It's not an argument we should even be having. A majority of the voters are now useful idiots that hate capitalism, the press is entirely dominated by bolsheviks, and the administration is full of true believer communists. We need to identify our enemy, establish why it is universally repugnant and evil, and connect them to it. The people must be made aware of the world view that these people share, and how it is not their world view. It is a simple matter to connect Obama and each of his advisers, appointees, czars, and friends through ACORN to SDS to Alinsky to Gramsci to Karl Marx.

How about at one of these meetings with the president, our guy asks him what he thinks of Saul Alinsky and has he read his works? Is he aware that Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer? As a supposed Christian, I assume you know who Lucifer is?

Ask him a question that appears in the test for citizenship. What type of economic system we have in the United States? Ask him to compare and contrast socialism and capitalism and to defend capitalism as BETTER.

Ask him to his face if he knows that Frank Marshall Davis, his “mentor”, was a card carrying communist who despised this country and wrote pro Stalin soviet propaganda?

As far as I can tell, no one has asked Obama to his face to give an account for his world view.

Back to the economy and the “fiscal cliff”. There isn't going to be any significant economic growth because communists are destroying the country, and growth is anathema to them. There aren't going to be any budget cuts because communists are destroying the country and they want MORE debt, not less.

Ideas and elections have consequences. All we have left is the truth.

It was not an offer, it was a demand for unconditional surrender.

Obama does not want a deal.
