Some regulations are horrible...Some regulations are good...
Since the gov't got rid of the anti-trust laws, competition is pretty much non existant...The guy with the big bucks just buys up the fresh-start competition...
With some sort of protection for the U.S., people couldn't afford the price fixing of the manufacturers and the gov't would be forced to re-look over the now extinct anti-trust laws, again allowing competition...

Not for some, but I’m sure Wal-Mart has a management path for those who want to make it a career. I had a friend who started as a 7-11 clerk. He only had a high school education, but through hard work, he ended up managing four stores and making more than many of the college educated folks I know. Granted. That’s anecdotal evidence, but I’m told it’s easy to move up in most companies. Show up to work on time, be willing to sacrifice from time to time when your employer asks for extra effort, and try to improve your value by learning new skills. That’s still a recipe for success, even in Wal-Mart.

GM (and chrysler’s) collapse would have lead to millions-more workers unemployed, with no decent work to absorb them. And the pension fund was federally insured! So letting GM and Chrysler die would have been much more expensive than saving them. And the quality of their vehicles has been improving, though it’s been a long slog.
The USA has no VAT. That alone should keep every manufacturer in the USA.
Not if total taxation (and regulatory costs) is even higher than the VAT
One could question just who the “enemy” is. It's sad to see a mindset in Washington that focuses more and more on regulation with absolutely no thought of assisting and aiding business.
One could make a case that U.S. government is the real enemy.
My family moved our business offshore years ago. We saw the negative clouds forming and that was under the Bush administration. The whole concept of the purpose of government has been turned upside down. Good luck. I'm 72 and probably won't be around to see our collapse
Hey, I am a conservative that has to work for someone else for a living...If it wasn't for us, there wouldn't be a Tea Party movement...And I doubt the Republican party would exist either...
And I am not at all interested in seeing my wages drop to minimum wage or become non-existent due to globalism...

Let me guess. I’m thinking unions contributed to the demise of Hostess, but there were many causes. Protectionism (sugar) ensured Hostess had to pay much more for it’s key ingredient. I think the customer base has changed, too. People are more interested in healthy foods. It’s probably more difficult to market snacks like Twinkies. However, Hostess also made more than just snack cakes.

Unionized millions of government employees, while big biz and corrupt biggov flooded the country with tens of millions of low wage employees...That wasn't enough, so they exported tens hundreds of thousands of jobs to dirt cheap labor land, Communist China, etc...

None of these people care about America, it's independence or it's future. Bigger bottom line is all that matters.

Do you really think CEOs cheerfully abandoned America? Sure. That must be it. CEOs want to ruin their homeland, the place where they raise their families, just to make a buck. It can’t possibly have anything to do with trying to survive in a competitive world. Maybe we should have laws that prevent companies from moving, and laws that confiscate money when it’s moved overseas, and even more laws that force companies to pay unskilled labor generous wages (enough to raise a family) regardless of the work performed or the employee’s value to the company.
If labor was free, or pure robotic, the retail price of a car would only go down 5-7% off the sticker.
Wait a minute! When I scrimp and save so I can buy a share of Wal-Mart or Exxon, I want to make money, too. I suppose I’m one of those greedy rich people who owns a few shares of stock. Maybe I should vote for those companies to pay no dividends in the interest of fairness.

Yep. One more reason why the 50’s and 60’s were not all that great.
I have a standing offer with the Government to give me back all I paid into SS and Medicaid with a small ROI (say, 3%). In exchange, I will never ask for a dime nor a single benefit.
Amazingly, no response as of yet.
Corporations love regulations and love unions. These two things give cover for the big outsourcing project which is being done through bribery of Corporate executives and Politicians by various leech govt, like China. It is all a big shame and the “conservatives” gloBULLists can’t see the scam. It isn’t about profits, private sector unions are dead in the USA, regulations keep start ups out, it is about corruption.
WalMart should absolutely pay employees more if it cannot get enough employees and has to offer more to attract workers. Otherwise, no.
No need for proof, just look at America's decimate economic landscape today.
The U.N., super wealthy, the corrupt banksters, Republicans and Democrats are all riding in the same limo.
It's like the masked wrestlers on TV performing their choreographed rehearsed moves, as the audience of fools buy tickets and applaud.

In the aggregate, the markets operate more freely than not. Yes, they are subject to all kinds of shenanigans and manipulation (look what barney fwank did to the housing market).
But not working in the world economy as a whole is just, well, Pollyanna-ish.
