Next week may be Black Friday but sweets lovers across the nation hung their heads in sorrow on a dark Friday yesterday as Hostess announced they would cease making their line of products, which include the iconic Twinkies brand, because of the Bakers Union Strike.
But now as the brand heads towards liquidating and selling off their assets, a Mexican company may be angling to resurrect the golden Twinkies.
According to the Christian Science Monitor, while food producers ConAgra and Flowers Food, the American company behind Nature Valley granola, have expressed interest along with Little Debbie baker McKee Foods, Mexicos Grupo Bimbo may hold the inside track.
Grupo Bimbo is the worlds largest bread baking firm, which already owns parts of Sara Lee, Entenmanns and Thomas English Muffins and previously made what was considered a low-ball offer of $580 million a few years ago, Forbes reports. Now Hostess may only be worth $135 million.
Economists say high sugar prices tied to US trade tariffs were a big reason Hostess was struggling, but a Mexican company could be a lifeline for Twinkies because it would be able to take advantage of access to lower-priced sugar in Mexico.
While Hostess was clearly struggling, analysts believed Grupo Bimbo had an eye on them since the early 2000′s because they saw Hostess as a key ingredient for North American expansion with delivery routes that penetrated across the country into convenience stores, gas stations and grocery markets, according to Forbes.
Daniel Servitje Montull runs Grupo Bimbo, which was founded by his family in 1954. His family is worth $4 billion.
Servitje Montull, has already worked magic before, taking on Mexicos tortilla market and positioning white bread in Latin America.
If Grupo Bimbo pulls off a deal with Hostess for Twinkies, his next challenge will be resurrecting an American favorite.
Foolish people that they are, the correct spelling would then be BEAM-BEAUX
Following that up with a batch of sashimi ain't no thang!
You know that green paste ~ wasabi? Use it liberally. And that Sriracha ~ from California? That's currently the world's favorite antibiotic!

They wouldn't be made in Mexico. Bimbo is the largest US bakery. They have bakeries all over the US in almost every state. I'm sure you have already eaten many products they produce.
Are any of those made in Mexico?

No
I meant to say from Third World or corrupt countries. I will not buy produce from Mexico, South America, Africa, or China. When I buy seafood, I buy “wild caught USA”. Beer or tequila from Mexico? No, thanks
in rats ~
interesting!
They warn that when you go to a restaurant ~ any restaurant ~ in India if you can't watch them cook the food you should leave immediately and go out into the streets to eat SAFE food.
All subtropical and tropical countries have this problem.
R C and a moon pie, or even better, NEHI GRAPE and a moon pie ~ particularly if you’ve been out in the Sun working hard! (SEE: Fort McClellan 1967 ~ summer ~ on a road somewhere)
Mexican company Bimbo may be eyeing Twinkies
Going to have to look for those in the stores since I'm on a low-carb (restricted) diet and flour is a definite no-no for me ...thanks!
You are insane. Corn syrup is the cause of diabetes and obesity in America.
Next, I will see you plugging Meitnerium as an essential nutrient source.
Bimbo also owns Arnolds IMO the best bread on the market, unless of course you bake your own.
If you eat barrels of any kind of sugar every day it won't matter whether you are diabetic or just nuts.
Corn still has the carbs ~ but all the other stuff domestic tortillas have in the mix can be a problem ~ i have a wheat gluten problem so my only interest is in non-wheat products, but these Guerrero tortillas are perfect for using in my small pie maker ~ and they taste the least like corn of any of them, plus NO triglycerides.
No matter what my diet lately, my bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels are always high. No triglycerides in their product is another bonus. I already have genetics working against me, I don't need to put food in my mouth that'll contribute to that problem. I'm already on pretty much a natural and whole foods diet and even that ain't working!
Indeed, it's an Alabama kind of thing.
Then, there is a GRAPETTE and a Moon Pie -- which is definitely an Arkansas kind of thing.
Why don’t we just surrender already! Flap that white flag! Just give everything we have to Mexico and stop the slow bleed!
