Thanks to testimony and "real-time" video, lawmakers said they got their clearest picture yet Thursday of the deadly attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Libya, though questions and tensions remain as to how President Barack Obama's administration handled the matter.
Republicans and Democrats who attended closed-door sessions of the House and Senate intelligence committees described what they heard and saw as informative, albeit not necessarily conclusive.

Legislators saw a "real-time film (showing) exactly what happened" on September 11 in Benghazi, starting before the attack began up "through the incident and the exodus," said Feinstein. A source familiar with the House committee hearing said the video included shots of Stevens being dragged out of the building. Sen. Dan Coats, an Indiana Republican, described the footage as "a combination of video from a surveillance camera and a drone."

"What is clear is that this administration, including the president himself, has intentionally misinformed -- read that, lied -- to the American people in the aftermath of this tragedy," said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of California, a GOP member of the House Foreign Affairs committee that on Thursday convened a panel of experts not directly connected with the Benghazi attack. "The arrogance and dishonesty reflected in all of this is a little bit breathtaking."

A source familiar with that briefing said one Republican House member "got into it" with acting CIA Director Michael Morrel and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about Rice's comments, challenging why they weren't as strong as they should have been on whether an extremist element was involved in the attack.

Why they were abandoned is the question. Makes no sense. Tragic ending to the lives lost, for what purpose?

I wonder if Hillary covered her mouth for the entire 7 hours like she did in that photo of the Bin Laden raid.
I wonder if Joe Biden laughed the whole time or just during the serious parts.
I wonder if Obama was sober.
I seriously wonder if Susan Rice watched. And, if so, how she did the TV circuit with a straight face.
Just as Obama’s over-the-top defense of Ambassador Rice smacked of condescension and not just a bit of racism shows his mendaciousness to America and the world....the man is lying Big Time. Nixon showed class when faced with the truth.
One, get Hillary back on our soil and on the freaking stand! Next up, tell us why the Commander-in-chief didn’t attend 40% of his briefings. What was in the briefings that could have prevented this that he either chose toignore or chose to delegate.
They should all be declassified immediately so that the American people can make there own judgements instead of having the journo-politico establishment filter everything first.
And I don't want any more "closed" committee hearings either. As long as we're getting these details strained like we were little babies, the story will provide full CYA cover for everyone involved.
Bring this whole sordid swamp into the light of day and let the public decide for themselves. We're not infants!
The reason Obama did nothing: the election.
He was campaigning that he got Bin Laden and essentially ended the terror threat. He was campaigning that he ENDED wars, and Romney threatened to start more wars.
He also didn’t want to draw attention to whatever was really going on over there: gun running?
Obama thought this was a “bump in the road” and that this little incident could be quietly swept under the rug.

The drones have it all on film. I think Americans ought to be able to listen to and watch the whole 7 hours of horror with a crawler below showing exactly what the president was doing:
President goes to bathroom.
President smokes a cigarette.
President brushes teeth.
President checks flight to Las Vegas in the morning.
President reminds Situation Room not to bother him under any circumstances.
President goes to bed.
President asleep.
All while the Americans are having a fire-fight watched by drones, screams for help recorded on tape, dead bodies heat signatures dropping, etc.
Turn this into a made for the Internet Movie.

Ambassador Stevens was 510 miles away from the U.S. Embassy. His embassy. He was in a combat area, yet had only a couple of private security guards.
On 9/11!
Why was a U.S. Ambassador away from his embassy?! What the heck was so important in Benghazi that Stevens had to be there on 9/11 instead of inside his Embassy??
...and Hezbollah knew Stevens was there.
And the area was then too hot for the FBI to bring in plane loads of armed agents until weeks later.
What do you THINK was going on?!
Then Petraeus got canned for going there to find out.
It is clear that Stevens was running an operation that bypassed U.S. intelligence agencies.
Remember the video that blamed for the 9/11 attack? That filmmaker is still in jail, yes?
The cover-up is always worse then the lie. If Obama was smart, he’d go on tv, say all the information was a mistake, and start the story from scratch.
The hole is just getting deeper at this point.

Correction: Obama “knew”, not “thought”. The incident “would”, not “could”. Mark my words.

The reason must have been compelling for him to risk it. It was a choice. No doubt there is more to the story.
Very sad and horrible result. Many things are occurring in the government against the best interests of America. We seem to be ignoring most of it, and except for Glen Beck, Rush, Hannity, Sarah, and a few others it is proceeding on an agenda we do not have knowledge of what it is. We now have three Generals (starting with the removal of Crystal a few months ago, and now Allen and Petorus in the process of being removed, and out of the news.
What could be the reason for removing our 4 or 5 star Generals during time of conflict?
WE BETTER WAKE UP!
