One Graph That Shows Which Party Really Looks Like America
Front Page Magazine ^ | November 13, 2012 | Daniel Greenfield

“Why is the Republican Party so white?” is the great whine issuing forth from the fat mouths of a thousand media outlets.

The Republican Party needs to be a party that “looks more like America” is the big lie of the left. So let’s take a look at the racial composition of Americans and the percent of the racial vote that Democrats and Republicans received to see which party really looks more like America.

There’s America in gray. And the Republican Party in red right next to it. And there’s the Democratic Party off to the side looking nothing like America.

In all cases, the Republican vote is closer to the demographics of America than the Democratic vote.

The racial composition of America is 63 percent white. Romney received 59 percent of the white vote with 39 percent left over for Obama.

While the 223.6 million white Americans, who look like America and whom America looks like, were not fully represented by either party; they were most represented by the Republican Party. The Democratic Party really needs to work on its share of the white vote because the Democratic Party no longer looks like America.

White Americans are the majority in 49 of the 50 state and also continue to act as a swing vote, determining presidential elections by shifting one way or another, in contrast to other some racial groups who narrow-mindedly vote as a bloc.

The Republican share of the vote shows inclusiveness picking up the votes of two out of three minority groups at a greater percentage than their representation in the population.

The racial composition of America is 16 percent Hispanic. The Republican Party exceeded the Hispanic share of the population in its representation by picking up 27 percent of the Hispanic vote. The Democrats got 71 percent of their vote, which is impressive, but another reminder that the Democratic Party does not look like America.

Asians make up 5 percent of America. Republicans picked up 26 percent of their vote. Democrats picked up 73 percent of the Asian vote. Again the Republicans picked up a larger share of the Asian vote than the representation of Asians in the population.

Blacks make up 13 percent of the population. Republicans picked up 6 percent of the Black vote. Only among Blacks did Romney pick up a lower share of the vote than their proportion in the American population. And if Romney had not been running against a black candidate, he would have probably matched Bush’s 11 percent of the black vote, which is fairly comparable to the black racial demographics of America.

The Republican share of the vote from 2012 is closest to the demographic picture of America. Two out of three minority groups are overrepresented. And only black people are underrepresented for reasons that have to do with racial pride, not a lack of Republican inclusiveness.

The Republican Party looks like America. The Democratic Party does not. And it is the Democratic Party that needs to work harder to be more representative of America.

“Blacks make up 13 percent of the population.”

We live in a racist nation.Racism continually assures political power and lots of money. It feeds on itself.
The left wants racism to continue without end......even after white America has elected a so called black president twice more than they should have.By the time he gets through, perhaps America will have smartened up, and it won’t happen again until racism has ended.

Since we’re filling the tables again, here’s one of the most odious jewish antisemites I’ve seen out there. THIS is the Democratic party:

These graphs clearly show that identify politics with a compliant media humping the leftist agenda is remarkably effective. I would love to see the same graphs from 25, 50 and 75 years ago.

Those graphs are incredibly deceiving—offering % of population and % of the vote received by each party on the same line, as if the numbers were representing the same thing.

Until we conservatives totally QUIT watching and listening to the “Lamestream Media”, QUIT (not just threatening to quit) buying the products of those who sponsor the Commie outlets; it’s not going to get any better.

You're right. But how do we get the publishing world to recognize that half the people of the United States might - just might - be a market?

I don't want a magazine that has someone waving a flag on every cover any more than some gay person was to be represented by the most outrageous flaming homosexual queen... I want conservatives picking articles - or half of them - just a sensibility toward conservatives and our viewpoints.

How can editors who are 'oh so sensitive' to the needs of having a black person or a gay person or a trans-gender person in a newsroom not understand why a conservative needs to be there too - in about the same proportion as we exist in the culture...

Until they wake up Twinkie - it's best to do as you say - just walk away from them and take our money and purchasing power with us. I don't know why folks at the New York Times are so afraid of people who don't think like they do...liberal bigots are so hard to change. On a more cheerful note, Newsweek as gone out of business.

I agree with 9YearLurker, these graphs are terribly deceiving, but so is the write-up. And actually the second graph in particular shows exactly the opposite of the argument being made! Since when is picking-up 26% of the vote more than the democrats picking up 73%? The graph shows democrats pickng-up huge percentages across all minority demographics and yet the author tries to convince us that the small percentage republicans pickup is more?

The article seems to be intellectually dishonest.

Been waiting for someone to notice and start picking those graphs apart. Yeah, blacks are 13% of the population, and the Repubs get 13% of the black vote—therefore the Repubs “look more like America”!

LOL

What’s the problem? The electorate is probably a reasonable sample of the population at large. Granted it would have been better to count adults only, but the point is reasonable - that voting is mostly ethnic bloc voting like it is almost everywhere else on the planet.

You can point out ‘ethnic block voting’ without making bogus use of graphs.

Putting two measures on one graph line like that and then claiming that the GOP and the population are most similar—when you’re comparing graphs of two different things—is idiotic and/or deceitful.

You’re reading the chart wrong. They are both percentages of something, share of the population and share of the electorate for each of the racial categories. Even if you used multiple y axes the graph would look exactly the same. Think of it like stock charts measuring rate of return on two different stocks over time both measured in percentages. A perfectly legitimate comparison.

One more thing this works best if we believe that the voting patterns of the electorate are similar to the party preferences of the population as a whole which is probably mostly true.

“I have never understood how 13 percent of the population gets so much attention, so much welfare, creates so much trouble, and makes up so much of the news.”

They are a media fabrication, created only by the “one drop of black blood” test; their numbers are dwindling (as are those of whites), and they are being displaced by Hispanics who are breeding much more. I believe an increasing number of Americans don’t see blacks in their daily life unless they choose to.

What about the >2% homo/lesbo contingent? As a percentage, they’re far more active/demanding etc than blacks or any other group.

Here's a quick fix to this graph - we can use this data to extrapolate what percent of those voting Republican are white, black, etc., which then could be more accurately compared to the racial makeup of the country.

For example, 63 out of 100 of Americans are white, 59% of them voted Republican, so we have 37.17 whites voting Repulican. Following this pattern, we get the racial breakdown of the Republican vote:

37.17 - White - 85.84%
_4.05 - Hispa - _9.35%
_1.30 - Asian - _3.00%
_0.78 - Black - _1.80%
-------................-------
43.30 - Total -100.00% (rounding difference)

So that is the reality, and the truth is, we have some work to do.

"I have never understood how 13 percent of the population gets so much attention, so much welfare, creates so much trouble, and makes up so much of the news."

Practice, practice, practice.

(Seriously - my own non-scientific observation - if a foreigner were to guess by looking at the news, sit-coms and dramas of network TV, he would automatically assume that Blacks were at least half and probably closer to 60 - 70% of the US population.)
