The Fall of Petraeus: A CIA Coup?
The American Conservative ^ | Nov. 11, 2012 | Philip Giraldi

Posted on 11/12/2012 1:34:50 AM PST by olcurmudgeon

It now seems clear what occurred to bring down CIA Director David Petraeus: some months ago his paramour Paula Broadwell sent threatening emails to another woman warning her to keep away from Petraeus, seemingly unaware that computers and emails have signatures that can be identified by investigators. The woman, identified by the Associated Press as Jill Kelley, became alarmed over being threatened and notified the FBI, which got into the emails to discover that there was an affair in progress, leading to an investigation of Petraeus to determine if any classifed information had been leaked. Broadwell was subsequently interviewed by FBI agents, as was Petraeus two weeks ago. The Justice Department informed Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about the affair on election night, which led to a phone call to Petraeus. Clapper recommended that he resign and informed the White House. Petraeus met with the president on Thursday and submitted his resignation, which was accepted on Friday.

What the House needs to do next (as the Senate never will) is to call FBI Director Mueller (and in an open session as this would not be considered as testifying to anything which could be construed as "classified") and grill his butt as to who knew what (and was informed thereof) and WHEN.

There were unconfirmed reports on Sat that some agents within the Bureau were pissed because this was known to the White Hut and deliberately sat on (inferring collusion between the Feebs and the Regime) until after the election.

If Obama allows the White House to run so that he doesn’t even know when there is overwhelming FBI evidence of his CIA director’s involvement in an affair, then Obama has no business in our White House (okay, Obama generally has no business in any position of responsibility, but this is yet more evidence). If Obama knew and allowed a compromised CIA director to remain in the position until after the election for political reasons, then again Obama has no business in office. Every rational explanation for this sequence of events is more proof that Obama should not be in our White House. Sadly, there are no honest or objective Americans on the other side of the aisle.

Obama will not be impeached and removed from office because the Democrats are too corrupt to protect our country. It’s a shame too; America was a beautiful idea while it lasted.

As I understand it, the General received treatment for prostate cancer. Was he capable of having an affair other than platonic? I raise this question since I am a prostate cancer survivor.

I agree but will add that we have way too many RINOS and that is why nothing will be done. . . . . ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
A few hearings don't count and won't cut it. . . .
Weepy sure as hell won't do anything

The Petraeus sex scandal has done a good job of keeping questions related to Obama’s handling of Benghazi off the front pages - hasn’t it?

“Broadwell was subsequently interviewed by FBI agents, as was Petraeus two weeks ago.”

Where does this fall into the timeline of Broadwell’s Oct. 26 speech, the CIA’s Oct. 26 statement, and when Cantor was tipped off in late October?

If the GOP-run House is not Impeaching Obama over this (and Benghazi)...then it is certain that the GOP is actively assisting Obama, and knew about this before the election

I find it hard that an investigation of the person running the CIA has been unknown to the GOP-run House for 4 months. Even if Obama Admin does not tell them....someone aware of the investigation will tip off the House.

The GOP is either helping Obama, or, they have to be the dumbest bunch of rocks around...nothing is ever kept quiet in DC

Week of October 21: Federal investigators interview Broadwell.

Week of October 28: Federal investigators interview Petraeus. Prosecutors conclude afterward they likely will not bring criminal charges.

First it was Hurricane Sandy and now its Her-i-cane Petraues. The media wouldn’t cover Benghazi, but they sure are front and center with a sex scandal. Dead Americans apparently, aren’t as interesting or as newsworthy as adultery. The MSM has its priorities, ya know? Their daily talking points come from the WH anyway, so they will speechify whatever the obummer administration tells them to.

I guess the Bill Clinton gambit wasn’t operative in this situation? You remember? Privately offer the offended woman all sorts of career enhancers (while having your surrogates issue thinly veiled public threats) while you “Deny, Deny, Deny”!

What a sorry double-standard state we live in.

Yup, but that was the intention all along I'm sure.

Just out of curiosity , and I throw this question out to anyone on the forum, why is the Petraeus "affair" such a huge deal in the press, but when Willie was in the White House sex was "a private matter"? Seems like it's the same crew taking opposite positions.

Looks to me like they wanted Cantor, a Republican, to jump right out there with this cover story. WH hands stay clean. Looks like a political attack on poor petraeus from the Republicans. Cantor did not do what they expected.

Because petraeus coverage gives obama cover and when that happens, you can be darn sure he is up to no good.

First rule of political reporting: Follow the money.

Second rule of political reporting: Whose ox is gored?

Third rule of political reporting: Why should we care?

This is an application of the Second Rule with a special twist on the Third Rule.
