FBI probe of Petraeus triggered by e-mail threats from biographer, officials say

The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman with whom he was having an affair sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode.

The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said.

If this holds up, Petraeus must have powerful mojo. This reminds me of the crazy astronaut who traveled halfway across the country to stage a kidnap attempt on her romantic rival, also an astronaut.

Romney never had any intention of asking Petraeus to be his running mate. The evidence of this is that Romney's team went to such great lengths to ignore anything related to Afghanistan or the so-called "war on terror" from his campaign. Selecting Obama's CIA director as his running mate would have made something too obvious to voters: Both major parties are on the same side of almost every major issue in the U.S. today.

If anyone here hasn't watched the interview of the alleged mistress (Petraeus's biographer) in January by Jon Stewart at that link, please do.

His very first question is: "The book is called 'All In'. So, the last time I recall a journalist or an author embedded with a person at this level was McChrystal, and it was Rolling Stone. And he got fired. How did they let you-? How did Petraeus allow that? Did he know you were there? Were you, like, hiding? Did he allow this?"
