I just returned from my local poll in Virginia. In all my years here (19), this turnout was largest BY FAR. The longest line I ever remember was around 75 people. . .today, it was at least 500 and over an hour wait. I pray to God that this bodes well for Romney. Today, we will discover whether or not the adage "Its the economy, stupid" has been replaced with a new one "It's the HANDOUT, stupid!"
Fairfax flip flops, no doubt.
I live hear, and can tell everyone that the difference between 08, 0bama signs and 2012 Romney signs is striking.
Even driving 25 mph down 7 through Falls Church, a wannbe trendy enclave, had an even number of Romney vs. 0bama yard signs vs. 08 when they were virtually all 0bama in 08.
Regarding who is a suburb of what, there is this thing called the Washington DC SMSA. Ordinarily an SMSA is named after the largest political subdivision in the region. Fairfax is the largest. Technically this is the Fairfax SMSA, and Washington, DC is a Fairfax suburb!
I vote in a little town (Nokesville) in the same county as Woodbridge (Prince William County). At 10:30, there was between 50 and 60 people voting. The most voters that I have ever seen in the gym at one time was 10 .... and I’ve been voting since 1980.
BTW, our part of PWC is mostly Republican. Woodbridge (east side) is usually Democrat. Middle is Republican and the west side is in limbo. Popluation explosion on the west side. Lots of McMansions built out there, but I haven’t seen too many Obama yard signs.
Sorry, you are right...Hispanics.
I was raised in CA and forget the diversity of the Hispanic community...
In CA, most are Mexican....as well as TX.
In George Washington's day Northern Virginia was the wealthiest area in America ~ and today, the county where his home (Mt Vernon) is located is still American's wealthiest area.
None of this is news, nor is it out of order! It is what it is.
Yes, you are oversubscribed on Mexicans. I prefer Salvadoran white corn tortillas BTW ~ little thicker and more like bread than any Mexican product. We can get them freshmade in this area. Nothing like hot Salvadoran white corn tortilla in the morning (for those who cannot eat wheat).
Been in Fairfax County for over 30 years.
On balance, highly educated, always at the top of the wealth chart, very transient and the home of:
The Beltway Bandits.
Highly dependent of Federal Gov’t spending.
My daughter just went to vote and said she walked right in and had only two people ahead of her in line. Since they had 10 or 12 voting machines she went right in. She said she saw only older people and haus fraus voting. This was at 1 PM.
I voted in Fairfax county, number 834 on the paper ballot machine, of which there were two, along with four electronic voting machines. Waited in line from quarter past eleven to noon. I saw almost no one with just a democratic sample ballot. Everyone had either a republican sample or had taken one of each.
They were private institutions doing research of all kinds for all sorts of contracts ~ probably most of them with private sector organizations.
Education and medical science are major employers ~ plus computer service companies. The internet began here (Remember UUNet), and other communication services are all over the place.
At one time, maybe still the case, the greatest amount of Internet traffic flowed through those UUNET pipes.
I have said that giving the talent pool in this area, we can and will adapt to whatever changes occur.
I have suspected that many of the business leaders here, actually drive Washington’s spending decisions.
Kinda like a drug company that has a cure for a disease that no one knows they have.
I live in deep blue territory - Boca Raton - Voted at 10:30 this morning. A moderate sized crowd of about 100. Only took 20 minutes (mostly because an additional precinct had been added to the polling place). Then robo-Mitt called to remind me to vote. Unfortunately I can’t do it again. Hope my vote helps keep Florida red.
Love it!
Go Romney!
” 99.9% of ALL Americans are slovenly dressed pigs. Cut offs, flip flops, piercings, tats, fat guts, billboard graphic t-shirts like 12 year olds, bizarre facial hair, ball caps on backwards, etc.”
Direct reflection of the white house, that’s why the resale of a set of corelle dishes is higher than a set of fine china.
Remember when the southwestern theme abounded from the Bushes.
All that’s about to change tonight.
That stuff is all private sector and definitely way out on the cutting edge. When he worked for the USSR he had government funding rather than his own money on the line.

Dude, you read a lot of stuff !!!
And I thought I was bad.
Small world syndrome: I know Ken.
Wow! I think this bodes well for us. There was just not any enthusiastic support for obama... outside of a few hardcore communist enclaves this time and I cannot fathom a heavy turnout helping obama. I may be wrong but I do not think so.
LLS
Basically conservative but they like big Government because that's where their paycheck comes from. That's why Virginia is so close. If Romney wins their positions might be eliminated. And I say, good!
