Meteorologists scared!
Frankenstorm!
Worst disaster ever in the history of man, nay, the galaxy
........................
Also lets remember inflation, population density, overvalued real estate all are part of any “cost” estimate.
It’s as if nothing has ever flooded before.

"4th Alarm still ongoing --- Now have subway fires in lower Manhattan." Apparently, the massive flooding in the subway system will soon extinguish them...

That was a fascade wall that collapsed. Look at the brick building next to it - the bricks are oriented the same way. A load-bearing brick wall is two layers thick, and every few rows there is a row of bricks laid perpendicular to the wall, to tie the two layers together. They're usually on the long axis of a brick building, and the other two walls will be fascade, one layer thick.
It's something firefighters have to watch out for and not park a fire truck under, because of the potential for collapse. Hopefully that vehicle in the picture arrived after the wall came down!

Think of all the great scuba diving adventures you could have now in the subway system.

...how bad would the water getting into the subway be? The trains run on electricity. Once the tunnels are soaked in water, particularly the electrical controls and junction boxes, it will be very difficult and time consuming to dry them out and repair them sufficiently to get to get the trains going again. A previous poster pointed out that much of this is very old and spare parts for some of it will be very hard to get.
Worse, much of the city's electrical system goes through or near the same tunnels. Once soaked in salt water it seems certain that this will also be very difficult and time consuming to repair.
I suspect the city's fresh water pipes will be fine, but the pumps will stop when the electricity goes off. Same for the sewage system.
In other words, flooding the underground is much worse than the talking heads on TV seem to have figured out. I have no idea how long this will take to fix, but if these tunnels really fill up with water it won't be quick.

It’s not in the tropics any more?
Besides, it’s over land now. The mechanism which is keeping the storm going has changed. It’s not being fueled by 80+ degree water any more.

This is the daily news newsroom now. All power down. Three feet of water in the lobby. News crew there sitting tight in the dark. Turns out it was a good thing that I got stranded in Pittsburgh - my flight back to NYC was cancelled Sunday and I still have power here. A small crew of us still have Internet access and will continue to post updates as regularly as possible. Stay with us. So Liberals and their convoluted logic would say that since NY City will be basically shut down for days, weeks, or even months that we should all postpone the election so those people can vote.
So would these very same liberals give the same consideration if a huge storm hit Texas, Alabama, red states ? I think not... so tuff CRAP liberals.... the show must go on.
