...AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM TO IMPACT THE AREA...
SANDY IS EXPECTED TO SLAM INTO THE NEW JERSEY COAST LATER MONDAY NIGHT, BRINGING VERY HEAVY RAIN AND DAMAGING WINDS TO THE REGION. THE STORM IS A LARGE ONE, THEREFORE DO NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT CENTER OF THE STORM AS ALL AREAS WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS.
THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN HISTORIC STORM, WITH WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES, INLAND AND COASTAL FLOODING, AND MASSIVE BEACH EROSION. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAVY RAIN AND PROLONGED WIND WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR LONG LASTING POWER OUTAGES AND SERIOUS FLOODING.
PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE WRAPPING UP AS CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO WORSEN TONIGHT AND ESPECIALLY ON MONDAY.
SOME IMPORTANT NOTES...
1. IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO EVACUATE A COASTAL LOCATION BY STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS, PLEASE DO SO.
2. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT TO EVACUATE, AND YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO RODE OUT THE `62 STORM ON THE BARRIER ISLANDS, ASK THEM IF THEY COULD DO IT AGAIN.
3. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.
4. SANDY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM. THERE WILL BE MAJOR PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURIES ARE PROBABLY UNAVOIDABLE, BUT THE GOAL IS ZERO FATALITIES.
5. IF YOU THINK THE STORM IS OVER-HYPED AND EXAGGERATED, PLEASE ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION.

Being a veteran of many hurricanes, I can tell you, personally, there is no such thing as an over hyped hurrcane..........
Been through a lot of them myself. Born, raised, and currently living in NJ; but I was in Florida for a number of years. Actually rode out two of them in ten days back in 2004. This one feels different.
Ever think that they just ran out of stone on which to carve, or felt they had done enough to cover all their foreseeable plans for the future? The Mayans perished centuries ago, blame the Spanish conquerors or whatever, but they would have had plenty of time to update their systems before now if they had lived.
Well, I’m in Hagerstown MD now, which is far from the shore, but it’s projected to get gnarly weather. Wonder if it would make sense to head further inland.

Pfffft, I eat category one hurricanes for breakfast. Surfing in Category 5 winds is my idea of a mellow time. When I do pushups, I’m actually pushing the Earth down.
Our son lives on Long Island. I’ve pleaded with him to evacuate; he did last year in that one, moved belongings upstairs and evacuated premises. Also helped others to evacuate. Some elderly that didn’t want to evacuate. - This time, it’s the case of the “little boys that cried wolf” and he’s not willing to leave. It does get exhausting; but you gotta do what you gotta do. I hope it’s okay; am praying it’s okay.
The problem is that the message doesn’t apply to 99.99% of the people living in the path of Sandy. This kind of universal fear-mongering just makes it even harder to get people to pay attention during the next storm.
This is the Obama administration never letting a crisis go to waste. This storm is just barely a hurricane, and may well be a just a tropical storm when it makes landfall. They are way overplaying this to take Benghazi out of the news focus. As with any cat 1 hurricane there will be some flooding and some minor wind damage, but it’s nothing that we haven’t seen before. It’s very obvious that it’s being spun way way out of proportion.
So that’s why you blew your pants off when you broke wind.
I went through Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi. If I had it to do over again, I’d get the hell out. Better safe than sorry.
Not to worry, The Homeless will magically reappear at noon on January 20th...
The heavy use of emotional adjectives and hyperbole in releases that are typically dry and clinical to a fault is curious, isn’t it? It’s like NOAA is going through manopause or something.
All storms are dangerous, even tropical ones. Floods, not just from excessive rains, but tidal surge, backing up creeks and rivers inland for miles, can destroy billions in property and many lives. People who live many miles inland think they are safe, but it is a false security.........
I don’t like being talked down to by some anonymous wonky bureaucrat. This is endemic in the 0bama regime. They think we report to them, not the other way around.
