Democratic strategists are eyeing the forthcoming debate between Vice President Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) with a mix of hope and nervousness in the wake of President Obamas widely panned performance in his initial encounter with Mitt Romney Wednesday night.
On the plus side, some Democrats feel that a strong performance from Biden next Thursday could turn the page on the presidents near-debacle in Denver.
But they also worry that Bidens legendary capacity to state his views in an inartful fashion could backfire. More prosaically, there is the possibility that the vice-presidential clash will be an insignificant sideshow, which would mean that Obama might have to wait until the second presidential debate on Oct. 16 before righting his ship.
Across the Democratic ranks, the reverberations from the presidents poor showing were clearly still being felt Thursday.

Republican consultant Dan Judy said of the Biden-Ryan clash, it will be entertaining but I dont think it is likely to change voters minds.
For Judy, unlike the Democratic strategists, that would suit him just fine:
The president isnt going to really have a chance to get his footing back until that second debate with Gov. Romney. He has never really found himself in that position in any campaign he has run, Judy said. It is going to be fascinating to see if he has the resilience to deal with it.

I havn’t seen Ryan debate.
well, we saw Ryan take apart Obama in those Youtube clips.. Biden will make a huge error and Ryan will call him on it and point out what a dimwit he is.
these are really priveledged people, these dems..they have never been called out on their lies before..
Agree.
Ryan is a hunter. He will plan his kill shot, and bring home the whithered trophy
I listened to the Palin/Biden debate...but did not watch it. I felt awful, as I thought Biden had ‘won’...although most people gave the victory to Palin.
What I noticed - Biden can lie with great conviction. And I mean just flat out make stuff up.
Example: Last debate, he said McCain had voted with Obama on a tax bill...turns out McCain was not present for that vote. It is very difficult to prepare for this type of complete fabrication...Palin certainly didn’t come in prepared to defend a vote that didn’t happen.
Another example - he denied Obama had said he would meet with Ahmedinajad. We all saw him make this statement during a nationally televised debate...but Biden emphatically claimed it did not happen. Again, very hard to prepare for such an altered reality.
I hope Paul Ryan is prepared for this. All politicians exagerrate to a degree at some point during a debate...butRyan has to be prepared for the unpredictable, out of left field, fabrication.
Some other whoppers we all remember: Katie’s restaurant (close 15 years prior), Home Depot on Union Street (there isn’t one), average guy Joey Danko (washington lobbyist). Its an endless list of complete fantasy.
You are absolutely correct.... basically no one listens to what Biden says while he’s saying it, they watch the performance. Sure afterwards they’ll point out gaffes etc. but that shouldn’t diminish the performance aspect.
Ryan will need to not just hit back with the facts, but show a level of gravitas aka... channel VP Cheney.
Biden is also his Senior, and thus Ryan needs to remain respectful without deferring to Biden.
It will certainly be an entertaining dance.
thats the problem the press helps them get away with lies..obama and biden operate like conn artists..what got obama was romney called him on it in a round about way..
[After working as a legislative aide for Former Wisconsin Senator Bob Kasten] Ryan became a speechwriter for Empower America (now FreedomWorks), a conservative advocacy group founded by Jack Kemp, Jeane Kirkpatrick, and William Bennett. Ryan later worked as a speechwriter for Kemp, the Republican vice presidential candidate in the 1996 United States presidential election. Kemp became Ryan's mentor, and Ryan cites him as a "huge influence." Ryan then worked for U.S. Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas before returning to Wisconsin in 1997.
Add to that his 14 years in Congress defending his economic plans, and you have the basis of a good debater. I thought that I had read someplace else that he had debate team experience, either in HS, or at Miami of Ohio, but I can't find it right now.
'Ol Joe is an old time politician who knows how to position his opponent for a right or left hook to the 'jaw'....Ryan is no beginner, but he is facing a salty old dawg who can still manipulate effectively.
Are you saying I should buy popcorn from a homophobic hate group???
Great idea!
This is like a winless team trying to salvage their season by signing Ryan Leaf as their new quarterback.
I have LOTS of popcorn in stock so I can watch Ryan beat up on Biden. This is gonna be good! The Dems are such idiots!
Who is the moderator going to be? Not Lehrer, again, I hope. What a dud. He needs to go back to his nursing home.
thank you
I think its Ann Raddatz who is some infoslut from ABC.
Her debut to make a name for herself. Right. I can see it all, now....she’s going to be make a BIG TIME fool of herself, and her career as she knows it will go down the sewer.
I can hardly wait! LOL!
Wait. Would that be Martha Raddatz? She already hs a name...first Iraq war.
Talking pointfor VP debate...(using MSM memes) “If Biden couldn’t handle Sarah Palin, the ditzy Mayor of Wasilla, how’s he gonna handle the Chairman of the House Budget Committee?”
Biden can’t handle walking and chewing gum at the same time.
NEAR-DEBACLE!?!?!?!?!?!?!..great..that means the msm expects obama to do worse later...
You have to be from Indy
If Ryan is as on top of the stats as Romney ... he’ll smoke Biden for sure.
This is not what a real recovery looks like. We created fewer jobs in September than in August, and fewer jobs in August than in July, and weve lost over 600,000 manufacturing jobs since President Obama took office. If not for all the people who have simply dropped out of the labor force, the real unemployment rate would be closer to 11%. The results of President Obamas failed policies are staggering 23 million Americans struggling for work, nearly one in six living in poverty and 47 million people dependent on food stamps to feed themselves and their families. - Mitt Romney 10/5/12
