Romney: Best debate performance in 52 years
wnd.com ^ | Oct. 4, 2012 | Pat Buchanan

Mitt Romney on Wednesday night turned in the finest debate performance of any candidate of either party in the 52 years since Richard Nixon faced John F. Kennedy, with the possible exception of Ronald Reagan’s demolition of Jimmy Carter in 1980.

But where Reagan won with style and quips – “There you go again” – and his closing line, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” Romney crushed Obama on both substance and style.

Mitt was like a contender so keyed up by his title shot that, between rounds, he could not sit on his stool, but stood in his corner to rush out and re-engage the champ the instant the bell sounded for the next round.

Obama was mauled, with facts, figures, anecdotes, arguments, jokes, quips. A smiling Romney was on offense all night. And the president’s performance seems inexplicable.

With the split screen showing his response to Romney’s swarm attacks, he appeared diffident, sullen, pouting, flustered, petulant.

Obama made no serious blunder. Yet, on the split screen, as Romney lectured him with a stern smile, Obama seemed a chastened schoolboy, head down, being instructed by a professor that if he did not get his grades up he would not be back next semester.

The verdict on the Denver encounter – that Romney turned in the performance of his life and one of the most impressive in the history of presidential debates, and that the president underperformed, was outclassed and lost badly – was virtually unanimous.

Agreed. Our Congress is without the will to exercise it’s power with this jackass holding one third of it. I do despise a coward.

Ok, I am not sure you realize Romney’s positions on social issues.

They are nearly identical to obamas.

Both:
support abortion
support homosexual adoption
support homosexuals in the military

They do differ on marriage on homosexuals.

RomneyCare is the intellectual basis of ObamaCare, and presumes the Government owns you.

I’m waiting for an apology. Otherwise, Mitt is an opportunist.

You Obama supporters don't fool me. I believe my eyes I don't believe your ridiculous, infantile, idiotic spin.

Not believing Romney doesn't make an Obama supporter. Obama is by far the worse choice of the two.

Your handwringing 'concern' has become VERY tiresome.

If you can do better then DO IT .. still plenty of time to get your name in circulation for the 2016 primaries.

I especially liked that he wanted states to figure out their own healthcare plan.

Me too. That’s as the Constitution intended, a limited federal government with the rest of the powers to the states. Yet many here don’t understand that and say Romney is a liberal.

Just a tip. I wouldn’t waste my keystrokes on that one. It’s a talking machine without an In port or an analyzer.

I believe what I saw in the debate was the real Romney, the real Obama without the media filter and without the freeper filter. Do you even have the mental capacity to understand federalism, limiting the federal government, or conservatism as Romney explained it ? Lets see you put any of these in your own words . I bet you haven't even read the Constitution nor know what conservatism means and yet you are the expert here telling who is and who isn't. I bet you didn't even watch the debate.

Why do you trust government bureaucrats so much?socialism has never worked, look at the government schools and government projects as examples. They have 12 years to teach kids something as basic as reading, geography, history, economics, basic science etc. and they can't teach even one of those subjects. Go vote for your Obama, you don't fool me.

The next debate will be “town hall” style. I fully expect some stupid youtube questions along with a few iterations of the fabled “pony-tail boy” in the audience reading their questions off of DNC text messages. The next one will be nonsensical and I expect then to give Obama the questions beforehand.

Agree 100%

The MSM will do anything to get him re-elected --dumb bleeps don't realize as he is dragging the country down they are going with it

“If Romney carries the election, so do the House and Senate. America will be restored with bills originating in the House and being passed in the Senate. Romney will sign them.”

Stop dreamin’….

The ‘rats will filibuster EVERYTHING.

Expect to see “Wisconsin-style” tactics migrate to Washington.

There will be no honeymoon, even if the Republicans win the presidency, Senate, and hold the House. It will be a struggle from January 1st.

You guys might want to see this. Obama’s final, secret trump card? Perhaps...

This bit of news, if real, might be just what pushes Bibi's GO button.

Obama used the same line( “argument” ) that you just did that Romney care and Obamacare are the same. And Romney rejected that and slapped that commie Obama down. Romney said that the federal government doesn't have the right to control our healthcare and limit our choices, it's for the states to take care of healtchare if they want to not for the federal government so Romney said he would repeal Obamacare. That's called federalism and a limited federal government. Did you even watch the debate?

My favorite part was ‘trickle down govt’.

I have never understood why this isn’t a bigger part of conservative vernacular, and use it every time they talk about trickle down economics.

The media and some freepers here endlessly savaged Romney. the guy they portrayed is not the guy I saw in that debate. You don't say these things so naturally if you don't believe them.

You are exactly right. As a long-time Freeper (since 99 lurking) and one who supported Gingrich but feared he'd lose, I've been shaking my head for months at the savaging of Romney in this forum. Not that they didn't have a few points, but I kept feeling that we better get real. If he's all we've got, he's all we've got. We'd rather have a successful communist dictatorship?

And I think Romney proved us both to be wise last night. It's nice to be wise once in a while.

Spoken by one who .... well, .. that's all I ever manage.

they will be opinion questions, not based on facts which is Obama’s weakness. Over the past five years we’ve come to understand that the retention and recitation of facts is not one of his skill sets.

It's good that he said this, because Romney's "I'm sorry..." to the Arab-Kenyan was disgusting!

I’m not dreaming. Dingy Harry set the “new” rule. The Senate is bound by these rules. Reconciliation will bite that whore-house rat to the wall.

If a debate turns to social issues, Romney may find himself in trouble. In a debate about social issues, Obama can run as far left as he likes and it won’t make a bit of difference to his supporters. At the same time, Romney will struggle with those issues.

Agreed. Romney needs to prepare. If it's the 47%, he needs to ATTACK. The marriage/family/abortion stuff? Be UNAPOLOGETIC. He can't let "holier than thou," political correctness crap get to him.
