Last night, on the eve of the first and perhaps most important debate between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney, the Daily Caller released the first October surprise of the 2012 election in the form of an unedited 2007 video of Obama speaking at Hampton University. Dubbed by the Drudge Report and the Daily Caller as Obamas Other Race Speech, the video promised to show the President describing America, in the Daily Callers words, as a racist, zero-sum society, in which the white majority profits by exploiting black America. Indeed, the raw footage of Obama exposes odious racial hatred and demagoguery more befitting Rev. Jeremiah Wright than a mainstream political candidate. Far from conforming to the persona the President has marketed to the public over the last several years, the ideology put forth in the video more closely parallels what we know of Obamas radical pre-presidential life.
Prior to the videos release, many media outlets speculated that the speech in question was the one delivered by Obama in 2007 at Hampton University, a historically black college located in Virginia. Furthermore, some media sources decided that the speech had already been shown in full, that there was nothing controversial about it, or that a rebroadcast of it could be construed as race-baiting by a conservative news outlet.
While the speech in question was the one delivered at Hampton University, Fox Newss Sean Hannity introduced the clips which had not been seen or transcribed before noting that some of the more revealing aspects of the speech were ignored by the media, and/or that they stuck to reporting about what was in the transcript of the speech, despite the reality that the president ad-libbed the most incendiary remarks at length.
Yet one of the more striking aspects of the video was not the speech itself, but Obamas delivery. Obama affected a phony minstrel accent to condescend to the black audience, which African Americans ought to find insulting. It was in this manner that Obama unleashed a torrent of lies regarding the response to Hurricane Katrina, accusing the Bush administration and federal government of being racist. He went so far as communicating to the audience that they were not viewed as a part of the American family because New Orleans is a black-majority city, which the government didnt care about as much.
Down in New Orleans, where they still have not rebuilt twenty months later, he begins, theres a law, federal lawwhen you get reconstruction money from the federal governmentcalled the Stafford Act. And basically it says, when you get federal money, you gotta give a ten percent match. The local governments gotta come up with ten percent. Every ten dollars the federal government comes up with, local governments gotta give a dollar.
Now heres the thing, Obama continues, when 9-11 happened in New York City, they waived the Stafford Actsaid, This is too serious a problem. We cant expect New York City to rebuild on its own. Forget that dollar you gotta put in. Well, heres ten dollars. And that was the right thing to do. When Hurricane Andrew struck in Florida, people said, Look at this devastation. We dont expect you to come up with yown money, here. Heres the money to rebuild. Were not gonna wait for you to scratch it togetherbecause youre part of the American family. Thats not, Obama says, what is happening in majority-black New Orleans. Whats happening down in New Orleans? Wheres your dollar? Wheres your Stafford Act money? Makes no sense! Tells me that somehow, the people down in New Orleans they dont care about as much!
One thing that is not new here is the presidents penchant for lying whenever it suits his purposes. As both Fox and the Daily Caller point out, six months before this speech, the federal government had already sent approximately $110 billion to areas damaged by Katrina. Furthermore, the federal government did waive the Stafford Act on several occasions during its reconstruction efforts. And the Bush administration also sent an additional $6.9 billion to Katrina-effected areaswith no strings attached. Senator Obama undoubtedly knew about all of it, yet he apparently wasnt going to let the truth get in the way of a good speech.
At another point in the video, Obama implies that black Americans were excluded from the re-building process, and insinuates that federal projects were economically benefitting stereotypically white precincts such as the suburbs and white-collar industries. Obama contended that we should have had our [black] young people trained to rebuild the homes down in the Gulf. We dont need Halliburton doing it. Above hes complaining that New Orleans hasnt built re-built 20 months after the hurricane, yet he would apparently prefer taking time to train young people to rebuild, even as he dismisses the services of one the worlds largest engineering and construction companies in the process. Obama said that federal transportation dollars should go to the highest need communities, not highways out in the suburbs, and that additional funds should be invested in minority-owned business in our neighborhoods, so people dont have to travel from miles away.
Yet how the president sees such people is quite telling. We cant expect them to have all the skills they need to work, he says. They may need help with basic skills, how to shop, how to show up for work on time, how to wear the right clothes, how to act appropriately in an office. We have to help them get there. This passage reveals the true nature of Obamas hard-left worldview, one of the central pillars of which is that substantial numbers of Americans are utterly helpless without the guiding hand of big government.
The Hampton University speech is miles away from Obamas speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention that catapulted him to national prominence. With an eye to the national stage, Obama said, The pundits, the pundits like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue states, and further that we are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America. Except when the president is dividing us by race and class in order to win an election.
Some reactors to the speech have already assailed the President as an unprincipled chameleon, saying what he thinks his audience wants to hear. Obama began his speech with a special shout out to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who had already become a controversy at the time. He praised Wright as my pastor, the guy who puts up with me, counsels me, listens to my wife complain about me. Hes a friend and a great leader. Not just in Chicago, but all across the country. But soon after, when that friend and great leader finally became a political liability due to his overtly racist worldview, Obama was able to distance himself from Wright, amazingly using his 2008 speech about race as a vehicle. And once again, just as in 2004, the president was hailed by the media as a uniter, a post-racial vision of the future only a short time after he parroted the deeply divisive and hateful views of Jeremiah Wright.
Thus it was important, as Hannity noted in his opening segment, to hammer home the point that Obamas ability to have it both ways to cast himself as a pragmatic uniter while espousing the ideology of Jeremiah Wright, Derek Bell, Saul Alinksy and Obama-mentor and Communist operative Frank Marshall Davis is only possible because of a mainstream media more than willing to let him get away with it. To add insult to injury, as the Caller reveals in a separate story, the Democratic National Committee was working with tweets from reporters at organizations including Politico, BuzzFeed, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, New York Magazine and the Atlantic to discredit the Hampton University video before they were aired.
This media malfeasance found no better representation than in the following discrepancy between the last line of Obamas speech contained in the transcript and his actual remarks, which was apparently not of interest to any journalists. America is going to survive. We wont forget where we came from. We wont forget what happened 19 months ago, 15 years ago, thousands of years ago, the transcript said.
What Obama actually said was this: America will survive. Just like black folks will survive. We wont forget where we came from. We wont forget what happened 19 months ago, or 15 years ago, or 300 years ago. The added reference to black folks and the change from thousands of years ago to 300″ is as subtle as a Mack truck. Just as important, the media is more than willing to pretend such divisiveness isnt happening. This video shows otherwise in no uncertain terms.
Is anyone truly surprised by this? He’s always been a very racist person. It’s just amazing that people were, and continue to be, fooled by this clown. I literally cannot believe that someone like this is currently, and about to be reflected, president. We are so screwed.
What I want exposed is the name of every reporter who attended and then misreported the event. The closest I’ve found is apparent quotes from the AP story that present it as some kind of a racial unity talk, complete with extracts from his ‘prepared remarks’, which he never delivered.
I bet most of the reporters there are still on the campaign beat, doing what they were doing then, today.
Any fair-minded newspaper chain who reprinted the AP’s lies IMO ought to file a lawsuit against the organization for fraud—and cancel their use of the service.
Well, at least Obama is consistent. He’s a consistent liar. In fact, I think he might outdo Slick Willy in that department.
It's called being a demagogue. Appealing to the emotions of the crowd rather than to reason. Obama is certainly a master at demagoguing.
The Romney campaign should use this as an opening for the disconnect between what those tender-hearted ‘independents’ thought they knew about Obama when they voted for him in 2008 and the anti-American leftist they have watched in office.
The answer is the fraudulent reporting by the media, and there’s no better an example than what the press did in reporting on this speech. I want reporter names named, and this turned into a campaign against the MSM as much as Obama. It may be the only way to drag Romney’s RINO butt across the victory line.
And that is why the naive dream of so many guilt-ridden white people who were conned into voting for this man as an icon of "post-racial change" were so, so wrong.
Collectively, blacks won't ever forget, nor will they be satisfied with just 'equality', and Obama is the personification of that 'diversity is forever' attitude.
At that time, I respectfully gave my hero, my preacher dad, a pass. Some may criticize me, saying, Lloyd, either you stand for conservatism or you do not. While you may have a valid point, it is in my DNA to respect my parents. How do you respectfully tell your usually character-driven parent that his decision to support Obama, no matter what, is rooted in racism and a refusal to forgive?
But now that Obama has been exposed as the most anti-Christian president in U.S. history, senior black Christians must no longer be given a pass for supporting this man. ...................."
Agreed, but actually, there are more than just two faces.
Besides the black activist preacher/organizer face, and the face of the sophisticated urbane public servant, there is the Muslim sympathizer face (the one that “Stands with his Muslim Brothers”, with the ears that hear the “sweetest sound on earth - Muslim Call to Prayer) and the one that bows when he greets his foreign Muslim leaders.
There is the intimidator face of the fascist, the one taking the money from premium bond holders with GM, or the 10 Billion from BP during the oil spills, or intimidating Wall Street firms into following illegal conditions as terms of buyouts, and so on.
Then there is the face of the traitor. The one that hates this country, its founding, and its lifeline, the US Constitution. Regardless of where he was really born or not, the majority of his formative years was spent under tutelege of a psychologically damaged mother, and step father in a country or countries outside the norms of American. Indeed, even Hawaii in some regard fits this description.
I think the only time you see his real face is when he’s on the golf course.
HA! You funny.
They're all Obama RATagandists.
Where’s yo dollah ?????
Okay, here’s one ‘reporter’ I found filing a false report from 2007:
Marissa Muller was a 26yo bimbette when she apparently wrote this article which, by claiming that Obama said what his campaign gave CNN as his prepared remarks, actually reported that he said the very opposite of what he actually conveyed re: the federal government and Katrina.
