I feel about this election the way I felt about 2008 - that it didn’t matter who won as much as many think. And the article explains why.
To put it in a nutshell, the problem isn’t Obama. The problem is the electorate. And in a democracy you get the government you deserve (yes, I hate democracy and know we are in a constitutional republic, but my statement stands).
The problem is Romney.
Gingrich would be down by 10-15 points now. You think he’d be polling better than Romney with any group? Especially women? You think the media wouldn’t be having even more of a field day with his past?
The era of the white male GOP presidential candidate may be over. White men are viewed with suspicion. Even if they are as squeeky clean and filled with integrity as Romney, they aren’t liked. If they are rich and white, even worse. As enough of the populace feels their wealth is ill-gotten. The GOP would only be doing better if they had a candidate like Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz, or a woman like Suzanne Martinez. Someone who reflects the changing demographics of the country, yet still is viewed as a reasonably solid conservative.
I wasn’t sold on Mitt Romney in the primaries. I am now.
Mitt Romney is a good and decent man. He performs many acts of charities that go unnoticed (Unlike his challenger, who’s every act of charity is staged, recorded and played back on the nightly news.)
Yeah, I know Romney’s got a liberal record as governor of Massachusetts. Reagan had a liberal record as governor of California. But I like what Romney said (when he thought it was off the record) about the 47%. He’s right. Compare what Obama said about the 53% of us who cling to our guns and God.
I also like the fact that Romney’s been successful as a businessman. I want a businessman in the White House - as opposed to the “Constitutional scholar” we have now. I want someone who understands how the free markets work and how this country can use it to our advantage.
A lot of people aren’t voting for Romney - they’re voting against Obama. I am not one of those. I think Romney is the right guy for the times.

I’ve written similar stuff here. And how seriously do I take it? I’ve lived in Seattle since 1966, in 7th grade.
I purchased a small but very nice new house on 13 acres in rural, central Kentucky two weeks before the 2008 election and moved here in August of 2011. We can survive off our land here and are almost set up to do just that.
This afternoon I wanted some protein but didn’t want meat. We were out of eggs because we took all we had to our relatives in Chicago this weekend. So I had to go to the chicken coop and grab the four eggs that were there. I fried up two of them.
What is coming has been clear to me - as if it has already happened - for five years though I admit it took longer to gestate than I thought it would. No matter who wins in November, you can know that a lot of history has been being held back until after the election, when the flood gates will be opened.
We are living in a time that more parallels the fall of Rome than any other time in the history of man. Except this is MUCH bigger. My farm is not a guarantee for us. It is merely a risk mitigator.

You do realize that 85% of our immigrants come from the third world and Asia, don’t you? And you do realize that the vast majority of these people vote Demonrat after being naturalized, right?

I agree with you to the degree that neither of these men is going to solve our problems for us. If we look to politicians, we are an insanely stupid people.
But Obama is a huge problem.
I agree with you. For Obama to be ahead, either more Democrats need to show up to vote than Republicans, or more Independents need to vote for Obama than for Romney. It’s difficult to see evidence for either of these possibilities.
The polls showing Obama ahead look to be assuming that there will be more Dem than GOP voters by a lot, like there was in 2008, but this isn’t 2008.
Well, the plain truth is that the party does not deserve followers. The party is a dark storm-cloud without rain; always speaking and promising, but never delivering on what it has said. (Thus I believe that Romney is the perfect candidate to represent the party.)

I hope Romney wins and wouldn’t bet my life that he won’t. But I think you’re underestimating how clueless the average voter is.
This conservative website had to bend to accommodate the liberal Republican Romney in order to try to remove Hussein. That illustrates that conservatives are through.

My interpretation for me, is, “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, I will live a conservative life to the end of my days.”
I will not accept the liberal ways of others because I cannot and still be true to my conservative Christian beliefs.
I'm with you 100%. Newt would have trashed King Obama who would have ended in the funny farm. Newt is a Constitutionalists and he had the experience to fight like a real American.
The reason is the polls, according to Pew, are based on just 9% of the people selected for polling.Lord only knows what's going on there but DO NOT BELIEVE THE POLLS ANYMORE ~ THEY ARE ALL FAKE!
