So I almost bought a gun.
Let that sink in for a moment thats addressed not to you but to me, because I never would have expected to write those words until last week.
I was raised in an unarmed household where hunting was not seen as sporty and protection was a butter knife kept under the pillow.
My years as a crime reporter turned my gun ennui to gun disdain. ...
If youve looked into the shell-shocked eyes of enough bereaved parents, seen enough bodies with holes in them, enough blood, enough senseless death, violent moments of rage, foolish mistakes, its easy to conclude that no good can come from a gun.
And yet there I was last week with a very patient salesman named Alberto at Sportsmens Warehouse trying out firearms as if I was trying on shoes.
Why? Ill spare you the details because frankly getting into specifics could be dangerous. Suffice it to say that someone dear to me has finally found the courage to leave a horrific relationship.
Domestic violence advocates say the most dangerous time for an abused partner is when he or she (mostly she) leaves. ...
And so I began to think that, given the similarities between the Landeau case and the one that has thrust me and my family into a tumultuous drama we never asked for, maybe its time to think beyond the butter knife under the pillow.
Ill be damned if Ill allow any of us to become the next innocent bystanders.

Update to the story in today's Journal --
She didn't receive approval due to her background check coming back as "Delay." No indication as to why. Since it has been over thirty days, she again will apply. She says support for her decision was almost unanimous.

If she was just delayed, if it’s not denied or approved, she can pick up the gun in three business days.
“If the FFL has not received a final determination from the NICS after three business days have elapsed since the delay response, it is within the FFLs discretion whether or not to transfer the firearm (if state law permits the transfer). If the FFL transfers the firearm, the FFL must check no resolution was provided within three business days on line 21d of the ATF Form 4473.”
My wife is active with Marine and military family support and troop support groups. She knows several people in Eloy, a little town 65 miles southwest of Phoenix, between us and the source of illegal Mexican drug mules and their armed thug escorts. My wife says that one of her friends from Eloy says that many Eloy citizens are now packing because of they feel threatened by dangerous criminal Mexicans.
The first purpose of all governments, to protect its citizens, is typically the last thing it does. But at least it costs a lot.
And does she still feel that it is all "senseless violence" and "no good can come from owning a gun"?
The job police really have is "To Investigate and Arrest." Some LEOs are nice enough to do some service-ish stuff along the way, and most are probably nice enough folks if you aren't currently the subject of their professional interests...
But the harsh truth is this: When called, the police will probably get there AFTER the crime has already been committed, that is to say, after you and/or people you love have been assaulted or killed.
Protection from the police is mostly by luck, or if you're an important witness they want to have testify for the prosecution.
Your protection and defense is YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY FIRST!
She pointed this out in the update, but said that this dealer (Sportsmens Warehouse) will not sell unless it comes back approved.
A very short, side by side, 12 gauge shotgun for domestic use.
There is an old Southern saying just for Libtard females such as this presstitute.
“Light dawns, said the ‘Possum”.
For the Blue State Urbans, the ‘Possum and the armadillo are the usual animal characters personifying stupidity.
If this is the same "Sportsmen's Warehouse" that closed multiple stores in a business consolidation a few years ago, then I'd say they're overdue for another consolidation for poor business practices and overall ignorance of the realities behind the NICS. The store they had in Oklahoma City was good for firearms and general sporting goods so I was bothered when they closed it. It was a good alternative to Bass Pro Shops as far as a "big box" sporting goods store. Of course, there's always Academy, too.
Now if only people like her would stop and ask themselves “I wonder what else those ignorant rednecks might be right about.....”
What do know? Another lib doing a 180 when reality smacks her upside the head.
I can’t think of a single liberal “issue” that a lib wouldn’t do a complete turnaround on if his life or the lives of his loved ones hung in the balance (note, however, that usually he’ll only make the exception for himself or other libs in a similar situation).
OTOH, I can’t think of a single issue that a conservative person would change his mind about if in similar circumstances. What would make a conservative person decide it was okay to start killing babies, or abolish property rights, or give up his right to defend himself, etc.? NOTHING. That’s how you can tell us apart. In the end, the left has no core principles.
What do YOU know?
She almost grew a spine. This lib knows subconsciously she’s brain damaged and doesn’t trust herself.
And in true Liberal fashion, she doesn't make a case for gun ownership. In fact she is still antigun. She only makes a case for HERSELF buying a gun.
Dumb, dumb, dumb. She just announced to all the thugs, burglars and rapists in NM that she’s armed with a butter knife.
I have had a thought for a long time that the best cure for random shootings is to license a number of good people to legally carying a gun. The uncertanty of who is in pistol range should convince most bad guys that pulling a gun is a very bad idea.
