Fortunately, James Capretta at the National Review has already published a rebuttal:

I wonder if the AEI guy has ever heard of the Constitution, federalism, and liberty?

Pretty disgusting when so-called conservative think tank members endorse such an expansion of central government powers.

Hmmm....list of things to do:

1. Call family foundation to scratch donations to AEI
2. call their president to tell them why
3. Find another conservative group to donate to.

Geeze...and all this time I thought it was about the power of government force. How very silly of me...I've now seen the light.

Obamacare is a conservative’s dream if you typify the left’s caricature of conservatives.

Just because someone calls themselves ‘conservative’ does not make them so. Too many instances of liberal infiltration of conservative think tanks to even allow them to be considered conservative any longer.
You do not have markets when there is clear manipulation.

The fact that this so-called “conservative” endorsement of 0bamacare appears in the New York Slimes renders any opinion expressed therein null and void as an expression of a genuinely honest conservative assessment.

The Slimes is so biased that they can't even hire one conservative columnist (and no Pinch, David Brooks doesn't count). If they did, Maureen Dowd would die of a hissy fit.

This explains why the health insurance industry has been quietly supporting the plan all along. It levels the playing field and expands the potential market by tens of millions of new customers.

It enslaves doctors by telling them how to treat patients and how much they can charge. It forces them to accept and treat those that they might not want to treat.

My first thought was that the NYSlimes lied about what he said. But evidently not.

There couldn’t be a worse time for a “conservative” to come out with something like this. If they want to conserve any reputation at all, they’d better give him the boot pronto, with a clear explanation of why they did so.

The RINOs may just be attempting to cushion the blow that will come when President Romney leaves the majority of Obamacare in place.

It sounds like AEI has been seduced by insurance industry cash.

This is akin to atheists telling Christians what their religion is about.

Never take as fact anything the NY Slimes writes. As Ann Coulter says “If you Must”.

The article pretty much speaks for itself and I can tell you that our little foundation will not like it a bit. I am sending the link to my hubby ASAP. I know we have given to them in the past but will have to look up the last report to find out what we have done lately with AEI.
We are a modest foundation compared to the big boys but it is nothing to sneeze at either. Our donation guidelines are property rights, free enterprise and constitutional education and I don’t see how this article fits into any of those principles.

The left trying to sell the unsellable by renaming it or calling it conservative in preparation for blame throwing when if fails.
Not sure which. Probably both.

Heritage declares on its own website that it and AEI supported requiring americans to purchase health insurance, AKA, individual mandate, AKA ObamaCare, AKA RomneyCare.
