Let's say the old lady died at home of natural causes. They can either report the death and the SS checks stop, or they bury her privately and the SS checks continue. The last Medicare claim for the woman was in 1980, after a stroke. The son and daughter may not have taken proper care of her at home, or she may have passed away from complications.
The judge has ordered a competency hearing for the son. His living conditions were horrid. I have to wonder if he had been "living in mom's basement" all his life, and his mother's SS check was his only income.

Wisconsin: 3 relatives suspected of cashing dead mother's Social Security checks for 30 years ....authorities now suspect she died in about 1982.....There's no indication she's been seen in the last 25 years.....Sooooo, there is apparently a five year timeperiod that indicated the poor woman was seen dead?

I’m not so sure the “scent of human remains” would still be detectable after 30 years.

Where did you see the "hysterical" mug shots? They're not at the link. Thanks.

There’s an old story if a Chinese annuitant whose thumbprint was accepted as s check endorsement. After working in a US Chinese restaurant he retired to Taiwan and began accepting his annuity. Each month his check was endorsed with a thumb print and cashed. Eventually the company realized he was over 110 years old and they made inquiries.
Turns out he died in his eighties and was buried but his thumb went into a jar of alcohol. It reappeared each month to endorse his check. It was his plan to care for his family.

Makes you wonder about the way the SS Administration audits recipients.

I know of 2 similar situations just in my own personal experience, so I believe it is extremely widespread. Hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

How many people live to 100 years old?? If they had quit when she would had been 90 they might have got away with their fraud.

Amen you would think there w/b a protocol. That’s not lax administration that’s no administration.

Makes me more sure that ever that they don’t ever do an administrative audit. They need to scrap the current data base and make everyone sign up again in person with proof of identity and citizenship. Also seems to me that direct deposit to a bank account bearing only that person’s name would alleviate some of this.

Hope not. Fraud is less severe than murder, obviously.
