Experts not involved in the study were skeptical, with one accusing the French scientists of going on a "statistical fishing trip" and others describing its methods as well below standard.
The animals on the genetically modified (GM) diet suffered mammary tumors, as well as severe liver and kidney damage, according to the peer-reviewed study which was published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology and presented at a news conference in London.
The researchers said 50 percent of male and 70 percent of female rats died prematurely, compared with only 30 percent and 20 percent in the control group.

‘Real Scientists’ and Forbes should be so fussy about the ‘science’ behind the removal of PPA and CFC inhalers from the market and replacing them with an inferior product, the decision of the FDA to set ‘standards’ re the amount of plastic in protein supplements used in pet food, the declaration that the CO2 is a dangerous pollutant, the mandated replacement of CFC refrigerants, the replacement of the incandescent light bulb, . . .. By coincidence all of these actions benefited global corporations at the the expense of the consumer and freedom of choice in the market place.
The current system of food safety regulation is rigged toward fear mongers publicized by the leftist media. We don’t have to label something every time somebody makes an unproved allegation that it is dangerous. Nowadays, anyone can make an unproved allegation that a food is dangerous, and the burden of proof shifts to the producer to prove the negative. If it later turns out that the product is not dangerous — based on studies by credentialed scientists - the persons who spread the nonsense pay no penalty for the ruined livelihoods that they caused.
And what happens when a lab finds a molecule or two of a GM food in an unlabeled product?
Some like “Kashi” want to go wholly non-GM and be so certified so if I find a GM grain DNA in their products can I sue for false or improper labeling and damaged health?
My take on Genetically modified foods is very simple, they work and they work very well. The negatives as I see it though is that they work so well that many of the heritage plants and seeds are being lost as they are no longer being planted in large numbers.
The reason that worries me is that the GM plants are resistant to “current” plant disease and pests. What happens if a new one shows up? Either through nature and natural selection or by “sinister design”. The worst case scenario is that the national or world-wide crop dies and a whole lot of people go hungry.
And hungry people are not known for half-measures, expect a whole lot of societal breakdown and enclaves of “have Food” vs. “Hungry people”.
Thanks.
Thanks for the ping.
Correct and that’s the irony of liberalism. Their policies of big government control/regulation of the economy benefit the rich and powerful.
