R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song. Michael Stipe said, "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."
FUREM.
Can they do this?
If anyone knows his puffy snakes, it's Michael Stipe.
I bet he knows all about being a “puffer”.
Nice job, Stipe . . . keep the story in the news. Thanks.
I went to an REM show once, about 20 years ago. Stipe was so busy talking politics throughout the show that he forgot to be even marginally entertaining.
I doubt they can stop it as long as FOX pays their dues to BMI.
Not surprised; Michael Stipe is a sodomite.

correct. There’s nothing they can do about it. If REM wants to quit ASCAP or BMI and put their money where their mouth is...yeah, right, like they’ll do that.
Uh oh, they’ve said too much,
They haven’t said enough

I seriously doubt that Fox uses any music without proper clearances.
“Shiny Happy People” Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey! Pull that bus over to the side of the pretentiousness turnpike, alright!? I want everybody off the bus. I want the shiny people over here, and the happy people over here, ok! I represent angry gun-toting meat-eating f’ing people, alright!

Oh well , there’s always this:
A dramatic interpretation of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” as if it were performed by actor Sir Ian McKellen.

Well, I’m sure FOX News didn’t play the entire song, but I’m thinking it’s 100% legal (that’s of course not to say that REM can’t complain about it). Isn’t there some 30 second allowance or something when it comes to these things?
I guess REM would rather the GOP stop buying their records.
Waiting patiently for the Great Humanitarian to show his generosity.
Funny how so many bands are “apolitical” until someone they don’t agree with politically wants to use their music (not that R.E.M. is apolitical)...
Idiots.
