Bill Clinton on Obama: 'A Few Years Ago, This Guy Would Have Been Carrying Our Bags'
Weekly Standard ^ | 09-02-2012 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 09/02/2012 10:41:47 PM PDT by bronxville

Former President Bill Clinton tried to get former senator Ted Kennedy to endorse Hillay Clinton for president in the 2008 election by describing Barack Obama this way: "A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags."

This anecdote is revealed in a New Yorker article on the relationship between Bill Clinton and Obama:

Tim Russert told me that, according to his sources, Bill Clinton, in an effort to secure an endorsement for Hillary from Ted Kennedy, said to Kennedy, “A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.”

Clinton is giving a keynote address at the Democratic convention this week in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"Kennedy and Carter were in a bitter fight for the nomination, and Kennedy’s speech said nothing about why Carter should be re-elected, it was all about Kennedy’s vision for the future,..."

If they were in a Primary fight why would Kennedy have anything good to say about Carter who was his opponent?

A card-carrying Democrat member of our family, also from NY, tore up his card during Carter.
Republican ever since.

Is there any doubt that if Bill Clinton ran against Obama for the nomination, that Bill will crush the Marxist Kenyan like a bug?
As would Carter or even a can of tuna fish.

You're right dan, I heard it first as: "A few years ago this guy would have been getting us coffee."

No offense, but when I see multiple versions and different wordings on the same theme, I get a powerful odor of mendacity.

But, still, it has the distinct aroma of being true, even though it came from our nation's "First Black President", who would never malign his "brothers", now would he? hehe.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Just a bit racist in the only way Dems CAN be!!!!

But CLinton was right in one sense. Obama should still be carrying our bags, unlike such heros as Marine Colonel Alan West ( ret.) a member of Congress from Florida.

Hmmmmmm...a memory refresher:
American political writers John Heliemann and Mark Halperin claim in their book, GAME CHANGE, that Mr Clinton made the call to the late ‘Lion of the Senate’ Ted Kennedy, on the day after Mr Obama won a key primary in Iowa (2008).

‘He phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy,’ they wrote.

‘Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, ‘A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.’ ...After Kennedy sided with Obama, Clinton reportedly griped, "the only reason you are endorsing him is because he's black. Let's just be clear."

The top Democrat in the US Senate was also in hot water over racially insensitive comments he made during the 2008 campaign about Mr Obama that are quoted in ‘Game Change.’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid describing the then Senator Obama as ‘light-skinned’ and ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.’

I will never believe that he actually wanted Hillary to be President.

He sure did
He wanted to be the power behind the throne and knew the spotlight would be on him

>>If they were in a Primary fight why would Kennedy have anything good to say about Carter who was his opponent?

It was the convention. The purpose of a convention is to put aside the political differences from the primaries and unify as a party so that the nominee can win in the general election.

We are truly living in the bizzaro world. The democrats, who incessantly claim that the Republicans are anti women, have as their keynote speaker a serial rapist and sexual predator. They also accuse Republicans of being closet racists who use such inflammatory racist words like “chair,” “welfare,” and “birth certificate” but yet have an outright racist as a speaker. And not a single propagandist in the enemedia will point this out.

OK, got it. Your original post never mentioned the convention so I assumed it was during the actual Primary.

Nah. I also believe Bubba torpedoed Hillary.

Bubba hates playing second fiddle to anyone. Didn't want the competition. Hillary might have the chance to be a 'War Time' President and go down in history, you know.

This pic may or may not be photo shopped, but it sure does illustrate the idiotic mess we (collectively, as NO, I do not have a turd in my pocket) have gotten ourselves into.

The BO honoring, Black, Lesbian Comedienne, Wanda Sikes, had a FOX show right after the crowning of BO and one of her first statements was “I gave a couple of bucks to his campaign and I want my share NOW” (not quite a quote) and she also opined “We had better back him now because if he screws up we will not have another Black on the ticket for 150 or so more years”, (Again, the gist of it).

Nope he wants back in the WH in the worst way and the ONLY way that can happen is if Hillary is president

He knows he would still be in the spotlight and de facto president
