The official theme of the GOP convention Wednesday night was "We Can Change That," but that didnt stop several of the speakers from revisiting Tuesdays theme, the base-rallying battle cry: We Built It. The message: The righteous exploitation of President Obamas You Didnt Build That gaffe isnt going away.
Ever since the president stood before a crowd of supporters in Roanoke, Va., on July 13 and, while explaining why the wealthy should pay more in taxes, uttered the infamous words If you've got a businessyou didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen, conservatives have hammered him for his disregard for small-business owners. And liberals have hammered back that Obama was taken out of context. To be fair, this is the full quote:
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a businessyou didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.
Obama supporters can complain all they want. They can argue that when he said that, he was talking about the roads and bridges, not the business itself. It doesnt matter. And its pointless to blame Mitt Romney or the RNC or anyone else for taking it out of context. Heres why....

Yes. During the Korean War, My Dad was stationed in the Aleutians PRECISELY because STALIN’S RUSSIA was within striking distance. Alaska was once a Russian Colony, and don’t think for one minute that Ol’ Uncle Joe wasn’t fully aware of that.
Don’t think that about the current rulers of Russia either.
“You can actually see Russia, from land, here in Alaska.”
Thank you for pointing out the actual Sarah Palin quote. You would not believe the number of times that I have had to correct the idiots that I work with. When I do all I get is blank stares, a brief pause and then they go back to their original conversation about how stupid they think Sarah Palin is. Within a few minutes they will repeat the Tina Fey quote. It is like I am living in the real life version of Idiocracy, the movie.
But wait, isn't The One the SMARTEST person ever to be President? Surely he would be proficient at basic grammar, no? But then maybe he was out in the Choom Gang van, or whatever it was called, during English class.
I guess we can now surmise that he wasn't one of the 14 editors selected to the Harvard Law Review based on first year grades and a writing competition submission; or the next 20 who were selected based on the writing competition submission alone. I guess he was one of the 46 selected on a discretionary basis.
“Famous Cherokee warrior Elizabeth Warren said the same thing last year, I believe.”
She did say the same thing, and Rush (rightly) took her over the coals for it. Otherwise, not much play, but it does fire up their base.
Since the Dems don’t see a downside (i.e., Rush and maybe some other talker pointing it out is not a downside), they figured that Obama would get a free pass on it - maybe because they thought that Romney would campaign like McCain and not try to actually win.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bingo.....
If roads and bridges are what "made" everybody's business, why then doesn't every body have a successful business? everybody

2007-2008 ALLSTATE TV Ads by a “barack actor” that played the President on the TV action show “24”:
“Well - it sure feels like a recession!”
now in 2011-2012 ALLSTATE TV ads:
“ALLSTATE protects you from Mayhem!”

Avoid GEICO Insurance too! Warren Buffet was/is a huge Obama supporter!
Try: GRUNDY car insurance - special low rates and pre-agreed coverage on classic or daily-driver vehicles
(GRUNDY also covers homes, boats, etc.)

Sarah never said that. Tina Fey said that.
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didnt -- look, if youve been successful, you didnt get there on your own. You didnt get there on your own. Im always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If youve got a business -- you didnt build that. Somebody else made that happen.

I've always thought the entire context of what Obama said is MUCH, MUCH worse than the portion we've seen played in the media over and over again. Obama WAS NOT takn out of context and his argument was just offensive. The Romney campaign needs to run these clips in ads from here until election day. What's even worse than what Obama said, mocking, condescending, nasty way that he said it. He definitley doesn't come off as a nice guy.
Rachael Larimore is Slate’s managing editor.
Exactly. Who does CarMax thinks buys cars from them. It’s not Obama’s voters.
That’s Tina Fey’s quote, not Sarah’s.
Chauncey Gardner.
Great movie.
Imagine Chauncey dismantling the Liar-in-Chief in a debate.
As an example, look what’s happened to South Africa since apartheid ended. I’m not defending apartheid, by any means. But confiscating the property of the producers and turning it over to the non-producers is a non-winning strategy. They should have ended apartheid without the confiscation.
It never was about racial injustice it was about seizing a strategic, mineral rich, wealthy country. The ANC were and are a communist front group, and a murderous one, not that there is any other kind when you get right down to it. Black Africans have always been regarded as mere cannon fodder by communists and continue to be. Westerners have become preoccupied with doing the right thing and being nice. The ultimate end game will be far worse for white South Africans than it ever was for blacks under apartheid. It will be to the detriment of Africans, Africa and the world. But at least we get to feel good due to the symbolism.
Rachael Larimore? Managing editor? You gotta be kidding me. Maybe we’ve slipped into an alternate reality or something...spooky.
