ABOARD A US MILITARY AIRCRAFT US military chief General Martin Dempsey denounced ex-officers Tuesday for waging a campaign against President Barack Obama, arguing that soldiers had a duty to stay above the political fray.
Wading into a potential minefield during a hotly contested White House race, Dempsey voiced his disapproval of a group of retired military members and CIA officers who have accused Obama of spilling sensitive national security details to help secure his re-election.
Asked if the group's criticism was valid or useful, Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he would not comment on the substance of their allegations.
But he added: "As to the latter, is it useful? No, it's not useful. It's not useful to me."

He sounds like the kind of officer despised by those who served under him. Unless things have changed over the last 40 years, there is no prohibition against a retired member of our military to voice his/her opinion, political or otherwise.
On the other hand, when I served, there was a prohibition against an active duty military member denigrating the commander-in-chief (small letters were intentional) verbally or via the written word. Perhaps they have discarded the UCMJ???
Doesn’t this ‘active duty’ general understand that the votes of members of our military are already not being counted?......Now he wants to silence retired soldiers from engaging in his/her Constitutional Right to free speech. He makes these statements while brave soldiers are being killed daily in the MidEast.
He’s spent too much time in Washington sipping scotch at White House functions and not enough time on the field of battle, in my humble opinion.
EODGUY
Screw you, clown. We have an oath to uphold and we take it seriously - like you apparently don't, you perfumed prince!
Just following orders are ye?
Best condemn those damned swiftboat vets while you're at it too, albeit kinda late.
Damn, whatchu gonna do come November?
The name calling is completely unnecessary. As I clearly noted in my post, the names I came up with were those I could recall in the few seconds it took me to type them.
He’s right, soldiers do. Which makes me wonder why he’s publicly commenting on this.
Ex-soldiers are not technically soldiers anymore, they are civilians and have every right to be political. I’m not talking about the spirit of ‘always a marine, etc. Legally they aren’t soldiers. Civilians. Totally able to get as political as they want.
This particular general is effed in the head.
Barry’s hand maiden no doubt?
All officers swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, not the occupant of the White House. And active duty officers are indeed removed from political activities.
But once an officer of the regular armed forces is shifted from the Active List to the Retired List he can fully and honorably exercise his First Amendment right of free speech.
Should a group of retired officers choose to exercise their First Amendment rights in defense of the Constitution as these have done, their actions should be praised, not deplored.
If the General feels these officers have in any way violated the law, he can recall them to active duty and institute Court Martial proceedings. But this will not happen because the General is wrong.
Must be hell to be a lickspittle for that illegal alien in the White House!
Has this concerned General spoken out on the Rules of Engagement in Iraq and Afganistan?? The ROE designed by Barry and his cohorts that are getting our troops killed and maimed? Has this concerned General spoken out about the 31 Americans killed in Green on Blue incidents in Afganistan including the two killed last weekend? Is he mute except to kiss the rear end of the occupant of our WH?
I find it reprehensible that this General cares more about his political rear end than our men and women in uniform in harms way. He apparently found his tongue to criticize the SO veterans and CIA veterans speaking out against the Occupant of our WH. IMO, he disgraces his uniform.
Razor,
I noticed his absence but the list was of Presidents that served, active duty in a regular military unit.
Otherwise Dubya would have been on it as well as a few others IIRC.
But props to Lincoln as is his due.
Nuts
The YouTube is near 3 million views in less than a week. We The People aren’t listening to the limp General.
the new military is all full of PC, the new Generals or many of them and other officers only care about themselves and get promoted based if they’re a homo, girlie boy, office jockey and a minority.
“So General, why are you getting into the political fray?”
Exactly! As if the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is not a “political” position. /sarc. With all due respect General, STFU and stop defending the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers!
Much the same in specops where the operators are frequently ranked as Warrant Officers/CWOs, carrying on the specialized knowledge of great hands-on value for current and future warriors, and flattened lean command structure
The point of these specops private citizens is to tell the CIC to shut the hell up and stop leaking-- and if Dempsey doesn't get that, well that just shows the politics of this general officer and his chain of command. Like LBJ and his generals-- failure built in.
The only person a scumbag Like Ubama and the rats would have as chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff is a homo-hugging liberal. This is why they forced the cowardly Bush to throw Peter Pace under the bus. I’m calling out US military chief General Martin Dempsey. I know he’s a political whore - - and I think he’s also a faggot.
America has a history of ex military officers speaking freely. Sorry, general.
Now that is an idea.
Dempsey is the prime example of Obama’s wussification of the military, esp. the Army (and Navy). Marines holding, Air Force, wobbly. Coast Guard - always prepared.
