‘Machine Gun’ Kelly: buyback takes 509 firearms off streets
New York Post ^ | August 21, 2012 | Jessica Simeone

A powerful Calico 9mm — with a 50-round magazine — was among the 509 guns taken off the streets at a Queens gun buyback and laid out yesterday at Police Headquarters.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, looking like a modern-day Eliot Ness in a sharp pinstriped suit and French cuffs, handled some of the more powerful firearms while showing off the deadly cache, which he said cost the city about $85,000.

“We think it’s money well spent,” Kelly said, as he surveyed the haul, which included an AK-47 and a TEC-9.

A real genius Kelly. Bet all those guns were working models submitted by street thugs eager to collect the bounty (Sarcasm).

Why don't you have a CAR buy-back Kelly? Then you could prevent all those drunk drivers from killing people by taking cars off the streets.

That's because you're an idiot.

No worries Comrade, our glorious Soviet Council is working on that too!

So all the dangerous Honda Civics, Chevy Astro's, and Peterbilt big rigs will be off the road!

Then we will drive the Safe and State Approved "Peoples Car!"

A Volkswagen If you will.

A real genius Kelly.

To someone with an agenda for government control via wealth transfer it is a work of genius.

That's $85,000 of hard, yet freely earned, money getting budgeted to the government to flush down the toilet.

Today $85,000, tomorrow $850,000.

That’s about $170 each.
Pity the owners had no idea the real value of the items, most of which would go for 2-5 times that easy.
I shudder to think of the truly valuable curios & relics which were sold for a pittance and destroyed.

I always thought these programs were stupid too. Granny turning in a sweet Sako or Weatherby for $50? bet she’d be pissed if she knew what she really gave up.
On the other hand I have a few junkers I could turn in to fund my SP101 account.

My over all thought on this is that if they were stupid enough to sell these guns back through such a program they are to stupid handle the responsibility of owning a gun.

You question begs another question.

If the Leftist car buyback was designed to promote the sale of new and better cars, then why wouldn’t a gun buyback have the same effect? Of course, the question can also be reversed.

Uh, good point.

On the other hand, how many of these are working functional guns and how many are pieces of junk some jerk is just turning in for a buck?

How many belong to naive old ladies who have no idea of their value and received them as part of their husband’s estate and so are cheated out of their real value?

How about the fact that programs like this waste taxpayer dollars in that guns used by street thugs are obviously never turned int?

How about the fact that anti-gunners use phony programs like this to demonize an object, instead of concentrating on the real source of gun crime - criminals?

They got a Calico jammamatic and one AK, and one Tec 9 and they call the 9mm handguns powerful? Sure.

????

I was being totally facetious about a car buy-back. The point is, the problem is not the object but the individual behind that object. If the cops want to stop crime, they should apprehend criminals, not waste time and tax-payer dollars apprehending objects which are easily replaced from another source and in themselves incapable of doing anything.

But of course, WE know the REAL reason for these buy-backs and they have nothing to do with stopping crime and everything to do with demonizing the Second Amendment and hyping the Kulturkampf the leftist NAZIs have undertaken against traditional America.

No telling where they pieced together this charade. NYC is sinking into a BS abyss where a daily dose of bizarre politically-focused horse dookie is fed to the slavering media to make Bloomers like he’s really doing something constructive. Buy-back, me arse!

Just wait until the thugs wake up to these easy pickings. They'll see granny turning in her protection and follow her home to do what they wish with her and her home.

Ban Turn in guns and only criminals will have guns.

Yes, I know you were being facetious, but your post made me think of the lack of consistency in logic concerning the effect of different buy backs.

I think its a perfect question to ask your favorite Lefty. Why does one type of buyback encourage replacement and the other discourage replacement?

How many of those rare and valuable guns will be confiscated by the politicians and the police.?

How many of those guns were handed over by criminals? & How many were surrendered by law abiding citizens?

This amounts to theft by misrepresentation by the government!

“My over all thought on this is that if they were stupid enough to sell these guns back through such a program they are to stupid handle the responsibility of owning a gun.”

Mere ignorance of a gun’s value is not stupidity.

Taking advantage of said ignorance is arguably an immoral act. If the financial loss is knowingly inflicted upon a poor person who needed the money, such a taking may correctly dubbed an ‘evil’ act as it is done with full knowledge of the cheating of the ignorant.

Nathaniel Grigsby correctly called the Democrats the Party of Treason for a reason. Knowingly defrauding a poor and ignorant person in order to restrict that poor and/or ignorant person of their First Amendment rights ia, arguably, treason.

Doing so under color of law is, IIRC, arguably a Federal felony.

But, since when was

He spent $85,000 taken from others at the point of a gun. To buy back guns. To make us safer.

Irony.

If they want to get firearms off the street perhaps they’re first focus should be the police department – beginning with Bloomberg’s security detail.

If guns in the hands of the law-abiding are problematic because of possible theft – then shouldn’t the same rationale apply to the police?

They’re guns are out in the open all the time – inviting theft or worse, so maybe they would be safer without them.
