Now we know why Akin was McCaskill’s chosen opponent.

When a GOP candidate is ahead in the pols against a Democrat incumbent, STAY OFF THE AIR!!! KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, AND RESIST THE URGE TO RISE TO THE ENEMIES’ BAIT.
The Republican Party really does need a training program for these basics because some candidates can’t control themselves.

Akin’s comments are being nationalized and will have an impact beyond Missouri. The RNC had better decide, and fast, what they want to do.

:After saying rape is like bad weather: If its inevitable, just relax and enjoy it, Williams ~won 90 TX Gov. race
WRONG! Claytie Williams was beaten like a drum by Ma Richards after this stupid remark. He was never governor of Texas, but he’s been an extremely successful oil man so he didn’t miss the aggravation.

Persp on Akin:After saying rape is like bad weather: If its inevitable, just relax and enjoy it, Williams ~won 90 TX Gov. race
Umm....Ann Richards won that race.
Though Williams did so much stupid stuff in that race it's hard to identify precisely what lost him the election.

It just proves that people are indeed idiots, and let the media think for them. In the case of what he said, substitute “legitimate” for the word “consummated”. Think for a second about the number of claimed “rapes” that are indeed simple sexual assault (male genitalia not directly involved)....
It doesn’t make the crime any less horrific, but it does changes the stats substantially. Lastly, the stress of a fully consummated attack helps reduce the resultant number of pregnancies to around 1/4 of 1%. The “golden bullet” as it were is indeed as rare as it sounds.

Akin is further proof that those who can’t do, teach, and those who can’t teach, become politicians.

Unfortunate choice of words. I understand what he was trying to say, but sadly that’ll be lost in the false outrage. Even his critics own numbers still bear out his basic point: Rapes are rare and pregnancies due to rape are rarer still. The fact is that abortions performed due to rape are statistially miniscule numbers when compared to the greater story of all abortions. We should be so lucky that the issue of abortion were only about those performed on rape victims. But it’s not.

To: Kaslin
The sad thing is that I think he meant legitimate rape “claim”. One concern many have about legalizing abortion for rape will create many, MANY false claims of “rape” in order to get an abortion. And the women will be very vague about how it happened or any details about the “rapist”.

My concern is if he can say something like this within a week or two of winning the primary to blow up a sure thing, what else he may have in his bag of tricks over the next 10 weeks for the media to prop this guy up nationally as representative of all the Republican candidates. He will become disaster politically and needs to go.

Akin is toast. He HAS to be. Frankly, he looks like a corpse anyway. Why do we need another 65-year old Senator? BUT, if he withdraws, Sarah Steelman was the #3 vote-getter. What does MO law say about all this? Can the GOP choose a replacement before ballots are printed? Would there be another contest?
