Moments after his motorcycle struck a 4-year-old girl, an off-duty Chicago Police officer shot and killed the girls irate father after he allegedly attacked the officer, the Chicago Sun Times reports.
Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden identified the officer as a 43-year-old veteran of the Chicago Police. The officer was headed home on Saturday evening when the horrifying incident occurred.
As he was driving home, the officer says he saw a child unexpectedly run into the street. In order not to strike the girl directly, the cop jumped off his motorcycle, pulling it down on its side on the pavement. However, the motorcycle skidded and flipped, hitting the 4-year-old girl and her 18-year-old cousin, John Passley.
As the officer attempted to provide aide to the girl, her father, identified as Christopher Middleton, 26, came running out of a nearby restaurant and aggressively approached the officer and began shouting, officials said. The cop argues that he identified himself as a police officer but Middleton still hit him in the face and knocked him to the ground before striking him repeatedly.

Maybe he did know that, but saw something else.
Let's see, a kid appears from between cars outside of a "restaurant" (I guess they served chips with their beer.) The cop ditches the bike, breaks bones to avoid the collision.
"Victim" , hearing the crash, looks out and sees his child , his very own who he was supposed to be minding, hurt. He's so distraught he flies out the door to the man on the ground with the apparent intention of kicking him to death.
He only wanted justice for his injured daughter, I guess, figuring somebody else would call the ambulance.
The guy on the ground had a gun. Whoops.
Yeah, yeah, yeah! I was so confused by the ridiculous title, that I misunderstood the article. Still reading the comments there, though. And 16,000 plus posts, and this is the first time I’ve made a mistake! 8^)
The MSM and the race baiters are furiously looking for a picture when he was 12 years old...
Maybe. But I’d bet the cop was speeding and should have been beaten. Do you know any cops that obey the speed limit? I sure don’t.
It seems the father was more concerned about revenge than attending to his injured daughter.
I always knew exactly where they were when we were at a restaurant.
The kid was with her 18 year old cousin.
After coming out of the restaurant, why didn’t he rush over and check on his little girl and comfort her instead of punching the cop? Did he make sure 911 had been called? Seems his priorities were a bit off. Had he been drinking in the restaurant?
“I dont disagree with your take...I am just wondering how I would react if someone (anyone) had just run over my child..”
I would shoot MYSELF if I was supposed to be parenting her while she walked into a street.
Please don’t forget, some of us FReepers were (or still are) cops.
The way some of you paint with such a wide brush is sickening...
BTW, I’ve always hated donuts (and fast food)...
Apparently not. Maybe just the headline. Given the rancored prejudice reflected in the post, it may not even matter if he read the whole article.
“...jumped off his motorcycle, pulling it down on its side on the pavement...”
The cop should be jailed just for this ^ if this is how he avoids accidents.
Unless there is some idiotic new rule saying people should lay still while being beaten to death, then this officer did nothing wrong.
I would completely understand your state of mind if it was your child. I would understand if you spit in my face, call me a son-of-a-bitch and order me with a barrage of obscenities to get away from your daughter. But, if you physically attack me, I will defend myself. Heck, if I was in agony from broken bones and unable to effectively defend myself, I will shoot.
No kidding, Always, always brake until impact and look for an escape route while braking. Laying her down is what you do with a woman, not a motorcycle.
Thank you for that post. Purposely laying a bike down is the poorest avoidance maneuver I can imagine.
“At that point he’s defending his life — he’s on the ground, he’s about to lose consciousness from the people who are beating him and draws his weapon in defense of his life,” Unless there is some idiotic new rule saying people should lay still while being beaten to death, then this officer did nothing wrong. |
The MUST be an "idiotic new rule". George Zimmerman is in jail now for doing the same dang thing.
The article says 43 year old veteran, not 43 year veteran.
No, I’m just sick and tired of jack-booted thugs.
Cops who shoot people’s dogs for no reason. Cops who raid the wrong houses and force innocent citizens to be terrorized. Cops who arrest homeowners on their front porches because they’re videotaping the cops pulling someone over in a BS traffic stop.
Cowardly Colorado cops who stood outside Columbine High School and refused to go in...allowing the two gunmen to murder at will.
So whenever the chance comes to see a cop to be legally ballbusted, I’m all for it.
I don’t think the off duty cop (but it could have been anyone) did anything wrong. I just know that if someone had just struck my daughter I would go crazy with rage and probably attack that individual as well. Again I do not think the shooter over reacted or did anything wrong. He was in fear for his life. I just know how I react when someone even threatens my child ( and she is no longer a child)——their life is over as far as I am concerned
