Moments after his motorcycle struck a 4-year-old girl, an off-duty Chicago Police officer shot and killed the girls irate father after he allegedly attacked the officer, the Chicago Sun Times reports.
Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden identified the officer as a 43-year-old veteran of the Chicago Police. The officer was headed home on Saturday evening when the horrifying incident occurred.
As he was driving home, the officer says he saw a child unexpectedly run into the street. In order not to strike the girl directly, the cop jumped off his motorcycle, pulling it down on its side on the pavement. However, the motorcycle skidded and flipped, hitting the 4-year-old girl and her 18-year-old cousin, John Passley.
As the officer attempted to provide aide to the girl, her father, identified as Christopher Middleton, 26, came running out of a nearby restaurant and aggressively approached the officer and began shouting, officials said. The cop argues that he identified himself as a police officer but Middleton still hit him in the face and knocked him to the ground before striking him repeatedly.

Off duty cop crashes motorcycle, breaks leg trying to avoid jaywalking 4yo,
Why was she on the street anyway? The father comes out of the restaurant? What’s that all about oh, I know another white devil killing a holy, young black man who was a perfect father and husband.
It’s the CHICAGO WAY...........
The 4 yr old was with an 18 yr old cousin, it appears.
The 18yr old should have been more responsible, or the dad should have known the 18 yr old was responsible enough to trust the child with.

Middletons sister, Tina Middleton, said her brother lived in Elgin with the mother of his daughter and was visiting relatives in Maywood, where he grew up. He was a good person, she said. I know for sure he wasnt out to harm the man. My brother would never harm anybody. I could understand him [the officer] being upset, but two wrongs dont make a right.
Middleton was due to be married Aug. 18th, his sister said. Besides his daughter who was injured, Middleton also had a 6-year-old son and an unborn child, his sister said.

Sounds like he tried to low-side it, but didn’t keep it down, and then it grabbed, high-sided and snapped over right into them.
“43 year old veteran...”
It says 43-year-old veteran, not 43 year veteran.
There really doesn’t seem to be much question that the cop did everything he could to avoid hitting the little girl, that he did everything he could to defuse the father who attacked him, and that he finally shot him in pure self defense.
The headline is disgusting.
The article clearly states that the officer was a 43-year-old veteran, not a 43 year veteran.
I was driving in my truck, with traffic, at about 50mph, at night. Suddenly, I see just a bit of white sock in front of me and slam on the brakes. This “dark complexioned” person was dressed in black from head to toe, and decides to jaywalk. The guy was not reflecting any photons. If I hadn’t seen his sock, he’d be dead.
So he flips me the bird.
So, if this cop gets off, does that mean Zimmerman walks, too? Will Al Sharpton weigh in on this one?
I have a feeling that this tragic incident is about to blossom into another Trayvon issue with the help of the liberal media, the reactionary members of the African-American community (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jackson-Lee, New Black Panthers, et al) and far-left wingers. We need to keep the facts at hand to defend the truth against what I think will be coming.
FWIW, In the riding classes I have taken, “I had to lay it down” is rider-speak for “I panicked”. Evasive maneuvers are all about NOT laying the bike down.
The most surprising part of the story is that the black gangsta actually knew that was his daughter.
If there’s an award for misleading title, this article is at least a finalist!

Agreed. The headline editor must have forgotten to add that the cop first had to shoot the family dog before the angry dad.
“In order not to strike the girl directly, the cop jumped off his motorcycle, pulling it down on its side on the pavement”
From the OP. There must be something wrong with that description. Sounds like a movie stunt
Unless there are parked cars on your right and oncoming traffic on your left.
Up is not an option either.
The first thing to do is to avert your eyes from the child. Too many bikers zero in on the obstacle in the road assuring they will hit it. but I cant see any situation where I would jump off the bike.
What a terrible tragedy, but I can’t really blame the officer in this situation. All around awful—2 people are dead, including a child, and one man will have an awful burden to bear for the rest of his life.
