WASHINGTON An Army officer being promoted to brigadier general openly acknowledged her homosexuality on Friday by having her wife pin her star to her uniform, thus becoming the first openly gay officer of flag rank in the United States military.
The officer, Brig. Gen. Tammy S. Smith, 49, a 26-year veteran of the Army, was promoted in a ceremony at the womens memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. The star was affixed by Tracey Hepner, who was a co-founder last year of the Military Partners and Families Coalition, which provides support, resources, education and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender military partners and their families, according to its Web site.
The couple married in March 2011 in the District of Columbia.

hmosexuals should not be allowed to seve openly , there has bene many cases of homosexuals but the media refuses to mention this and talk radio stays quiet as always.
Funny how the media ignored Manning once they found out why he did what he did and that he was a homo, bit like when a child is hurt by a man and the media ignore that the man is a queer
GAG ME!!!!!
She might be for smoking pot in the military, too. She looks like a stoner. Might just be she is on prescription meds?
Or, maybe she is just plain homely?
Amen......GOOD decent people will be leaving the military in droves.....especailly if Mitt and Pul get the economy going again.
Disgusting! America has lost her way and I’m afraid we’re going to pay for it in a big way. Such a shame, this country was founded so brilliantly, I’m sad and ashamed to see why my parents generation and my genration have done to destroy that great promise.
In the Last week of AIT I was on KP, up at 0300. Ran the final PT Test at 0930, back on KP until 1930. You couldn’t get into the Mess Hall with less than 10 pull ups at the door, times have changed.
What we truly need is a Commander-N-Chief with a huge set that is going to put his officers in line, straighten out the Pentagon, and put paid to this nonsense. There are MEN fighting and dying in Afghanistan and they are wasting time praising a lesbian!!
I could care less what these people do in their private lives, and for them to rub our noses in it tells me there needs to be demotions or discharges at the highest levels.
Enough is enough!!
“It is up to congress, they controll the code of military law.”
Even if congress were to pass legislation repealing its lame duck repeal of DADT...Myth Romney would still have to sign it.
Where does he stand on that? The truth is that Myth Romney is pro-homosexual and always has been...just like he was in Mass.
My question is will Mitt Romney do anything to stop the spread of Homosexualism in the military?
Not sure if that’s even possible now without expending political goodwill when far more pressing matters exist. Unfortunately, the genie is out of the bottle. The leftists knew this when it was pressed. What needs to be done though is to ensure that gays in the military are held to the exact same standard as all the rest. You get out of line, you get hammered like anyone else.
Sadly, I think it’s here to stay and any President that says he’s going to end it, is probably lying through his or her teeth.
She looks like a Dork.
What is she in charge of Toilet Paper supply?
Yet she has never had anything but a desk job since she entered the Army Reserves. NO combat. She "served" in Afghanistan for 4 days in order to assist the "organizational structure". Her degrees are in project management. She is probably great at MS Excel and MS Project. That does NOT make one a "General". What a sick joke.

***********************************************************
ahh....toilet paper supply for the Reserves.
sure have, I couldn’t beleive when he told me the newer testing, what a joke it is.
When he told the about the run I asked if that was battle combat kit being worn and he looked stunned and replied no it was not this is sneakers, shorts and a shirt.
This is the news of the weekend. It was all over the place. I am shocked by it. Why would a General even say anything at all? Just do your job for goodness sake. The United States is really going to the dogs. Get rid of this pro-gay crap.
Glad my husband is on terminal leave and retiring officially in October.
He’s worked his BUTT off for 26 years. Did some enormous work in Iraq over the past few years. I was a bit sad he did not get promoted to general, because I felt he deserved it ...but if THIS is what we’re promoting now — forget it. They can have this crap.
The military he served in has essentially, disappeared.
The truth is that the cat is out of the bag, and no one can put it back in.
In order to bring back Don’t ask , Don’t tell it would require tons of new regulations excusing those who have already come out and tons of law suits about those excuses and why other homo’s cannot get in.
It’s impossible for even the most savvy anti homo sexual to get it done. Impossible.
I know many fine Colonels serving in the USAR that are more deserving of the promotion than this individual. This is a political move...plain and simple.
Unfortunately, the POTUS controls general officer promotions.
We need a supermajority to pass the federal marriage amendment. (prefereably one like NC)
Isn’t DOMA the same thing?
Congrats! There is life after retirement for sure!!! I retired last year as a Chief in the Navy. It is wonderful being retired and my family agrees. It is sad what is happening to our military (just awful). Please ensure that your husband gets ALL of his aches and pains listed in his medical record. It is amazing how crazy the process is for the VA. It has been 14 months since I retired and still nothing from the VA....Looking at other people I know who retired a year before me. I should get my info probably in early 2013 only 18 months after retirement....Ugh.
