The news that Mitt Romney picked Rep. Paul Ryan, who has suggested changing Medicare, as his running mate sparked worries over the weekend among some residents at the Stella Maris retirement community in Miami Beachconcerns that could reverberate among seniors nationwide.
Nancy Scarchilli, a 92-year-old registered Democrat who is undecided this year, said Medicare "just paid a beautiful penny for my hospitalization" for heart failure, adding that she likes the program "the way it is."
Gisela Adán, another resident of the Stella Maris retirement community, said Saturday she relies on Social Security and Medicare but was unfamiliar with the details of Mr. Ryan's proposals. Regardless, she said, "I vote only Republican," so whatever the party proposes "is fine with me."
"I think Romney should have picked someone more middle-of-the-road," said Manny Meland, an 82-year-old independent who lives in Miami Beach. "I don't want [politicians] to rule with ideology. That puts me off."
Mac Williams, a 62-year-old independent who receives Social Security and lives in New Port Richey, north of Tampa, was similarly turned off by Mr. Romney's choice. "Ryan is entirely too extreme," he said. "I think Romney blew his chance of winning over independents."
On Saturday morning, as the news of Mr. Romney's choice circulated, Mr. Williams stopped at an Obama campaign office in the area and volunteered to help with its phone-bank operation. He said he had already been wary of Mr. Romney. But, he added, that morning's announcement was "like the last nail in the coffin."

‘I’m old.....Gimme Gimme Gimme!”
That quote is from a 92 year old Democrap!
I agree, and my BS Meter is on full alert when reading stories like that.
Boo freakin' Hoo...and many many more seniors are damn glad!!!!
No Child Left Behind, Medicare expansion, Bush's rapid increase of subsidy programs etc... came before 2007 when the dem congress was sworn in (Don't forget the Republican leadership's "insistence" on turning the votes of fellow members during the bailout voting). Republican leadership is comprised of big government spenders who happen to like tax cuts. Both major political juggernauts love to play with other people's resources, keep rewarding the big spenders I guess, what ever floats your boat...
I know this is so frustrating. Selfish old geezers. I am sorry I just get so mad.
Meantime; I am focused; not on 'what was'; but on 'what is'; and how America's future depends, now; on removing/extracting the worst of poisonous blight; ever; to attach itself to America's Oval office.
The concerns among seniors nationwide should be under Obamacare they won’t get any care.
Remember he said some people may to far gone for care.
Wonder at what age will his death panel draw the line?.

“September 11, 2001 happened. And ‘feel good’ prescriptions were part of the therapy for restoration of ‘confidence’ and our economy”
That’s probably the dumbest justification for “free pills for granny” that I’ve ever read on FR and that’s saying something. Let me get this straight - Dubya and the GOP enacted Medicare Part D, an unprecedented TRILLION dollar entitlement, so as to restore confidence nearly three years after 9-11? Fail.
Problem is...Obama has cut money from the program...so in 2 years it will not be "the way it is".
The Fiancee is a Lawyer, middle 50’s. While the women were discussing God knows what, he and I started talking Economics and Politics, a big mistake.
He mentions Ryan and without missing a beat said, I understand he wants to get rid of Medicare and give Seniors Vouchers for Private Health Coverage that won't be enough to cover their care.
Turns out he thinks the Government should provide Health Care to everyone, even though he himself does not have Health Care Coverage because of the cost.
We are screwed. The American Dream is dead.
You would hope a man educated to that level would be astute enough to gather facts and develop a clear understanding of an important issue instead of accepting the talking points from one side as facts.
It sounds like the old adage applies here:
"Second liar doesn't stand a chance.".
It didn't matter what I said at that point. He is firmly convinced he is right. When the conversation turned to his belief that President Bush (the C Student) must have been a Cocaine Addict in College because of his inability to speak well in Public, we were getting ready to go home.
If anybody thinks people “get” what Obama has done and will do if given another Term, they are being naive.
People just think Obama is a typical Liberal Democrat, not the Marxist we have proven him to be. Too bad Republican Politicians think that way too.
Most likely AARP members.
