The news that Mitt Romney picked Rep. Paul Ryan, who has suggested changing Medicare, as his running mate sparked worries over the weekend among some residents at the Stella Maris retirement community in Miami Beachconcerns that could reverberate among seniors nationwide.
Nancy Scarchilli, a 92-year-old registered Democrat who is undecided this year, said Medicare "just paid a beautiful penny for my hospitalization" for heart failure, adding that she likes the program "the way it is."
Gisela Adán, another resident of the Stella Maris retirement community, said Saturday she relies on Social Security and Medicare but was unfamiliar with the details of Mr. Ryan's proposals. Regardless, she said, "I vote only Republican," so whatever the party proposes "is fine with me."
"I think Romney should have picked someone more middle-of-the-road," said Manny Meland, an 82-year-old independent who lives in Miami Beach. "I don't want [politicians] to rule with ideology. That puts me off."
Mac Williams, a 62-year-old independent who receives Social Security and lives in New Port Richey, north of Tampa, was similarly turned off by Mr. Romney's choice. "Ryan is entirely too extreme," he said. "I think Romney blew his chance of winning over independents."
On Saturday morning, as the news of Mr. Romney's choice circulated, Mr. Williams stopped at an Obama campaign office in the area and volunteered to help with its phone-bank operation. He said he had already been wary of Mr. Romney. But, he added, that morning's announcement was "like the last nail in the coffin."

Like these people were going to vote GOP anyway.\s
Agreed. Some fill in the blank will worry about any fill in the blank decision by any fill in the blank person. Inane.
This is the the best move I have seen Romney make at any point in his never ending quest for POTUS.
“screw the youngsters, I like my benefits future be damned”
“I don’t want [politicians] to rule with ideology. That puts me off.”
And this idiot will turn around and vote for a Marxist.....the candidate with the most radical ideology in US political history. Fools.

Here we go again. Even the WSJ has a writer on staff who apparently believes Ryan will eliminate Medicare his first day in office.
Attention Seniors:The Republicans are not going to eliminate your Social Security or Medicare.
They are going to reform the program for people in their twenties because we have to. The money to continue it as it is simply is never going to be there.
Debbie Washerwoman-Schultz was on FOX News this morning with the “Rat talking points.
She was pounding away on how Ryan’s plan will kill Medicare and leave seniors with huge out-of-pocket increases, blah, blah, blah, balh, blah.
That woman gets more vile day by day.
Only if they listen to the media and not get the facts...
The Ryan plan to save Medicare specifically ensures NO changes to the current plan of those 55 years old or older.
Whenever I see a headline with “some say” or “many concerned” it’s a red flag that it’s an opinion piece by the author.
Are we supposed to believe they were just standing around and overheard others express these thoughts and are just “reporting”?
Those youngsters need to be set free so that they can devise their own retirements...
As for folks already retired, it’s a little late to change the game for them.
some
Even the WSJ goes with the hard left propaganda.
A poll just posted shows a 59/29 approval among seniors for Ryan, but the WSJ seeks out the disgruntled to add to their article...they pick the one guy in all of Florida who was undecided and now went to volunteer for obama today, but ignore the massive crowds that showed up in VA in response to the pick...including many seniors.
Wasn’t this old argument worn out a dozen elections ago?
That's exactly what they're saying even though the changes to save Medicare do not affect anybody 55 years old or older.
One of the reasons why the informed seniors want ObamaCare to be repealed is because it steals more than $700 billion from Medicare.
Their real enemy is Barack Obama
The “some” seniors, who worry about Ryan are the same seniors that were going to vote to continue the free lunch anyway. And, there are “some” seniors that worry that there will not be a future for their grand-children.
Repubs do need, quickly; 'education' ads; that run where the greatest number of Seniors can see them. A continuous loop; would be nice; albeit; we know; not financially, 'practical'. So much to undo; given the fear mongering of the Left.
I guess whomever interviewed the woman who was 92 and “liked Medicare the way it was” didn’t explain changes made would NOT have any effect on those 55 years of age or older.
Surprise, surprise.
