Ryan is a good man, but does not redeem the abortionist/homosexualist statist Romney
Aug 11, 2012 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 08/11/2012 4:42:48 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Except for his unfortunate go along to get along support of TARP, bailouts, stimulus spending and the increased credit limit, etc, Ryan is a pretty good choice. Probably the best choice of the RINOS that were on Romney's short list. I support Ryan for the vice presidency. Wish he were at the top of the ticket, though.

But I still cannot and will not support the grand father of ObamaCare. Romney still loves and brags about his bastard brainchild, RomneyCare, even today when he knows what an anti-liberty socialist POS it is.

And the fact that he advocated that abortion should be safe and legal in America for over three decades of his adult lifetime and even advocated that Roe v Wade should be supported and sustained as settled law precludes any consideration whatsoever by this pro-life Christian for Myth Romney for the presidency.

And the fact that he boasted that he would be better for "gay rights" than Ted Kennedy, and proved it just increases my resistance.

That, and his penchant for gun control, his continuing support for global warming, gays in the scouts, gays in the military, and his record of appointing liberal judges makes it all but impossible for me to support him.

Lastly, we're having a bit of changeover on our moderator staff. At least two moderators resigned this afternoon after I flatly refused to rein in a so-called anti-Mormon "bigot" on FR. Well, if being in opposition to false prophets and false prophecy makes a Christian believer a bigot, then I guess I'm a bigot. I've posted before that I flat do not believe that the Book of Mormon is the true word of God. Nor do I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Christian bible warns us to be weary of false prophets and that I am. Romney being the presumptive Republican nominee does not change that fact.

On this very thread, Californians, for example, have been called Obama-lovers, slackers, and so forth.

You must all be a real tight-knit bunch then. I doubt whether I know for sure the state affiliation of more than three or four FReepers. And I've been here since November 2000!!!

And I am assuming, of course, that by Californians, you mean Californian FReepers. Otherwise, if those were just comments about Californians in general, well then I think the state's voting record speaks for itself.

Elsie, God raises leaders up and He makes them fall.

And He sometimes uses the heathen to accomplish His purposes.

You will never live in an America without sin, nor will you ever participate in any election that does offer you a choice of flawed, sinning men and women.

Until Jesus returns, that will not change.

As a free man in a free society, I have to make the best choice I can among flawed candidates.

Job One to me is the removal from DC of Obama and his corrupt Administration. And if that means, like in the Old Testament, I replace one evil king with another evil king,well, that’s the best I can do, and pray that God sheds His grace on my errant nation one more time, and withholds His hand of judgment.

Any candidate, even the vaunted third party ones that are not Romney or Obama, are flawed to some degree.It is the human condition, under the sin nature, if we stick to religious terms.

And anyone here can slice them and dice them, just like every GOP candidate was excoriated on this forum in the past year.

Like the good book says, there is none righteous, no, not one.

But, in the face of clear evil, good men need to act.

What we don’t need to do, is shoot at others trying to do the same thing.

exit82: This thread now belongs over in the Religion forum.

ansel12: The founding fathers never said anything about limiting people talking about religion and politics together. That is your creation

exit82: I created no such thing as what you implied.

The word 'belongs' certainly can be seen that way.

Millet is considered one of the foremost scholars on the Joseph Smith Translation (also known as the Inspired Version) of the Bible.

While...

...ELSIE is considered one of the foremost thorns-in-the-flesh to MORMONs on FR. He has unabashedly posted comparisons of the Joseph Smith Translation and the King James Vesion of the Bible.

Whoops!!!

He's done it AGAIN!

JOSEPH SMITH—MATTHEW
An extract from the translation of the Bible as revealed to Joseph Smith the Prophet in 1831: Matthew 23: 39 and chapter 24.
Jesus foretells the impending destruction of Jerusalem—He also discourses on the second coming of the Son of Man, and the destruction of the wicked.
1 aFor I say unto you, that ye shall not see me henceforth and know that I am he of whom it is written by the prophets, until ye shall say: Blessed is he who bcometh in the name of the Lord, in the clouds of heaven, and all the holy angels with him. Then understood his disciples that he should come again on the earth, after that he was glorified and ccrowned on the right hand of God.
2 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple; and his disciples came to him, for to ahear him, saying: Master, show us concerning the buildings of the temple, as thou hast said—They shall be thrown down, and left unto you desolate.
3 And Jesus said unto them: See ye not all these things, and do ye not understand them? Verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here, upon this temple, one astone upon another that shall not be thrown down.
4 And Jesus left them, and went upon the Mount of Olives. And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying: Tell us when shall these things be which thou hast said concerning the destruction of the temple, and the Jews; and what is the asign of thy bcoming, and of the cend of the world, or the destruction of the dwicked, which is the end of the world?
5 And Jesus answered, and said unto them: Take heed that no man deceive you;
6 For many shall come in my name, saying—I am aChrist—and shall deceive many;
7 Then shall they deliver you up to be aafflicted, and shall kill you, and ye shall be bhated of all nations, for my name’s sake;
8 And then shall many be aoffended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another;
9 And many afalse prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many;
10 And because iniquity shall abound, the alove of many shall wax cold;
11 But he that remaineth asteadfast and is not overcome, the same shall be saved.
12 When you, therefore, shall see the aabomination of bdesolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, concerning the destruction of cJerusalem, then you shall stand in the dholy place; whoso readeth let him understand.
13 Then let them who are in Judea flee into the amountains;
14 Let him who is on the housetop flee, and not return to take anything out of his house;
15 Neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes;
16 And wo unto them that are with achild, and unto them that give suck in those days;
17 Therefore, pray ye the Lord that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day;
18 For then, in those days, shall be great atribulation on the bJews, and upon the inhabitants of cJerusalem, such as was not before sent upon Israel, of God, since the beginning of their kingdom until this time; no, nor ever shall be sent again upon Israel.
19 All things which have befallen them are only the beginning of the sorrows which shall come upon them.
20 And except those days should be shortened, there should none of their flesh be asaved; but for the elect’s sake, according to the bcovenant, those days shall be shortened.
21 Behold, these things I have spoken unto you concerning the Jews; and again, after the tribulation of those days which shall come upon Jerusalem, if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there, believe him not;
22 For in those days there shall also arise false aChrists, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant.
23 Behold, I speak these things unto you for the aelect’s sake; and you also shall hear of bwars, and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for all I have told you must come to pass; but the end is not yet.
24 Behold, I have told you before;
25 Wherefore, if they shall say unto you: Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: Behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not;
26 For as the light of the morning cometh out of the aeast, and shineth even unto the west, and covereth the whole earth, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.
27 And now I show unto you a parable. Behold, wheresoever the acarcass is, there will the eagles be bgathered together; so likewise shall mine elect be gathered from the four quarters of the earth.
28 And they shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars.
29 Behold I speak for mine elect’s sake; for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there shall be afamines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
30 And again, because iniquity shall abound, the love of men shall wax acold; but he that shall not be overcome, the same shall be saved.
31 And again, this aGospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all bnations, and then shall the end come, or the destruction of the wicked;
32 And again shall the aabomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, be fulfilled.
33 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the asun shall be bdarkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the cstars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
34 Verily, I say unto you, this ageneration, in which these things shall be shown forth, shall not pass away until all I have told you shall be fulfilled.
35 Although, the days will come, that heaven and earth shall pass away; yet my awords shall not pass away, but all shall be fulfilled.
36 And, as I said before, after the atribulation of those days, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken, then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth bmourn; and they shall see the cSon of Man dcoming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory;
37 And whoso atreasureth up my word, shall not be deceived, for the Son of Man shall bcome, and he shall send his cangels before him with the great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together the dremainder of his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
38 Now learn a parable of the afig-tree—When its branches are yet tender, and it begins to put forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh at hand;
39 So likewise, mine elect, when they shall see all these things, they shall know that he is near, even at the doors;
40 But of that day, and hour, no one aknoweth; no, not the angels of God in heaven, but my Father only.
41 But as it was in the days of aNoah, so it shall be also at the coming of the Son of Man;
42 For it shall be with them, as it was in the days which were before the aflood; for until the day that Noah entered into the ark they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage;
43 And aknew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.
44 Then shall be fulfilled that which is written, that in the alast days, two shall be in the field, the one shall be taken, and the other bleft;
45 Two shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken, and the other left;
46 And what I say unto one, I say unto all men; awatch, therefore, for you know not at what hour your Lord doth come.
47 But know this, if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to have been broken up, but would have been ready.
48 Therefore be ye also aready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.
49 Who, then, is a afaithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
50 Blessed is that aservant whom his lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing; and verily I say unto you, he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
51 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord adelayeth his coming,
52 And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken,
53 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
54 And shall cut him asunder, and shall appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and agnashing of teeth.
55 And thus cometh the aend of the wicked, according to the prophecy of Moses, saying: They shall be cut off from among the people; but the end of the earth is not yet, but by and by.

If you like Jeff's reasonings; then THIS is the man to follow; Robert Millet; MORMON and Professor, Apologist.

I feel like I have a sense of responsibility to be as, as gentle and kind and, in my case, Christian as possible. It's, to me, if you're, if you want to talk about Christianity or what it stands for, you have to look carefully at what it produces in people. My religion, for me, not only sets forth my theology, but it sets forth my practical, daily living in terms of how I treat other people and how I come to love them. And whether they feel the same way about ultimate and eternal things that I do or not.

Colo...whay was there a reforemation? What did they reform? Why did the Protestants, protest?

They made it clear back then...it was because there had been a general apostacy away from Christ's teachings.

And as some protested away from the Catholic Church, later others protested away from them for the same reasons.

The fact that there was an apostacy is one of the best documented facts in religious history as atteted by the quotes of the many very brave and honorable people at the time who risked all, including their lives, and many who lost their lives as a result.

From the 1400s on, and even earlier fro hundreds of years. in the 1600s and 1700s and into the 1800s, it was one of the principle reasons so many came to these shores. To find religious freedom away from apostate churches.

It was also something prophesied in the new Testamnent that the day of Christ's return would not come until after there had been a falling away first...and then a restoration.

Some folks feel that the reformation from Luther through Wesley and others to form the Protestant churches fulfilled that prophesy. We feel that those events led to it.

So in the interest of, "telling the rest of the story," let's not leave that part out.

Yes, we believe Christ Himself told Joseph Smith that such an Apostacy had occurred and was the reason for their visitation. It did not condemn the people, it condemned the state of the church organizations and leaders at the time. The Church in fact reveres many of those reformers and some of the comments they made when rebelling against Rome, or whichever State Church of the day they rebelled against. Wycliff, Huss, Martin Luther, Calvin, Smyth, John Wesley and so many others.

Just wanted, for the sake of complete explanation and information to make sure that whole story got told as well.

But notice, Colo, in doing so, I am not implying or stating that you have some mal-intent, or conspiracy going in leaving it out, or some kind of feeling that there is a undelying effort to "hide" it from others on your part. Just a simple difference in opinion and intepretation explains it and more than suffices. IOW, your terminolgy when referring to the LDS is one of a reviling nature, as if though we are trying to hide things from people, and secretly fool and mislead people. Nothing could be further from thr truth...and we have discussed this many, many times on other threads.

I know you love the Lord. I respect you and anyone else who sincerely does...like my own brother you referred to. There is not some kind of "tight rope" walk involved there to try and maintain family relations. My brother and I love each other unconditionally and recognize our mutual commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and respect it...even if we differ in some doctrines. I have attended his evangelical prayer meetings and been asked by the pastor to offer prayer for all involved...as a Mormon of all things.

I have taken sacrement from a very good Lutheran priest while in Houston in rehab, and did so as an LDS and thanked him for his kind, Christian treatment and acceptance of a card carrying, LDS High Priest...to which he smiled and hugged me in true Christ-like love and compassion.

I know that bringing souls to Christ is the key thing at any level of knowledge of Him and acceptance of His Atonement because it saves them, and helps them be better...healed in God's eyes certainly, but also for all of society.

The LDS love Christ...and are simply trying to do the same. Nothing more sinister to it than that. You can either believe that as honestly and sincerely stated to you by someone who has been involved with the Church for 42 years and held several leadership positions in it over that time...or you can continue with this devisive and reviling attitude. But I have told you the truth, and that's all I can do.

And with that. IMHO, this thread has devolved into a pretty nasty exchange of people making very judegemental and what I consider to be ill-tempered and un-Christian accusations at each other...which does not serve conservatism in the least. So I will excuse myself and continue trying to defeat Obama and his administration in the best way I can.

As an atheist, I don't think Jesus exists, at least as a divine personage.

That doesn't mean it's impossible, it just means that I find the evidence lacking.

And the example of "Christians" such as yourself tends to reinforce my view.

It doesn’t seem to matter even when it is clearly stated in our posts that we are from a deep blue state. I’ve been told that **I** will be responsible if Romney doesn’t win. It’s completely ridiculous. Jim’s vote, or lack thereof, is also meaningless, but he’s being excoriated.

One person even said we should leave our states if our votes are meaningless. I’m not happy about having to live here, but I’m not abandoning my parents simply to move out of California.

The LDS Church also believes in the Holy Bible, both Old and New testaments, and says exactly the same things about them. We do not have "another" Bible.

Jesus Christ is God’s Son, spiritually and physically. He calls Him Father, He prays to Him. We are to pray to Him,, God the Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, His Son.

God’s voice was heard at Christ’s baptism, coming from Heaven while He was in the water. The Holy Sirit also descended. Three seperate entities/Gods.

About the hateful lies against Freepers on this thread--there have been almost too many to count.And that is just on the political side of the discussion.When you get to the religious side of the discussion, it's a regular circular firing squad.

Now, the thread has turned in a different direction. The political has disappeared--now it is about people's religion, and whether they are fit enough to be here because of it.

I don't like it and I have said so.

But like herding cats, I know that telling Freepers that they are out of bounds is a fruitless exercise. Nevertheless, I felt dutybound to at least try.

We do have rules here that help to moderate our discussion, and I try to take them seriously. I am not always successful in that endeavor.

I think it is rather telling that the song Praise to the Man is sung to the tune of “Scotland the Brave.”

Are there lyrics to this?

I am a bit reluctant to admit that I DO like the MUSIC of PTTM.

It doesn’t seem to matter even when it is clearly stated in our posts that we are from a deep blue state. I’ve been told that **I** will be responsible if Romney doesn’t win. It’s completely ridiculous.

^ THIS ^ Too many blamed times to count. Innumerable examples on this very thread, alone.
