UPDATE:: NBC News has three sources telling the network that Rep. Paul Ryan, (R) Wisconsin, is Mitt Romney's choice for Vice President.
Also the National Review reports the following: Earlier today, a charter plane took off in Boston, stopped in Chicago, then flew to the tiny airport in Janesville, Wis. Janesville, of course, is the hometown of Representative Paul Ryan, a top vice-presidential contender.

I think this is either a pick that will win Romney the election, or a suicidal pick that will take a good chunk of conservatism with it.
Seriously, if the public buys the lefts line of killing grandma this nationalizes the entire election across the country in districts that Tea Party thought they had wrapped up.
If no one buys that Romney and Paul will win and likely easily.
I am concerned though the people will buy it. I live in a conservative place, very much so, and when he Ryan budget came out I was shocked about how much my location was against it with immense anger towards Ryan. I tried to explain, and they would not hear it. At all. They hated it. People who I’ve known since childhood and are deep conservatives hated it.
I suspect my location was/is not alone in that. So they have work to do to convince the left line is a lie. If they fail, I’m telling you this is a suicidal pick.
By applying your philosophy,the GREATER of two evils will always triumph. And soon we will be no more.
However, I refuse to believe that America cannot be great again, yet. Those down ticket conservatives can do little with a communist dictator at the top. Those same down ticket conservatives just might get a little accomplished with Romney and Ryan at the top.
If you choose not to vote in the presidential election, then you have put your stamp of approval by default on Obama, Holder, Hillary, Van Jones, Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright,Rev.Al, Janet Nappy, Kagan, Sotomyer, and on and on. And they WILL use the polical capital they will have if they win on us.
At one time I thought about not voting if Romney became the nominee, but I thought it over, and changed my mind. I will GLADLY pull the handle for him in order to get rid of Obama.
It's not negativity to say that Romney's team has not done a great job responding to Obama lies and distortions so far. It's an objective observation that has been made by a long list of very well known conservative commentators.
And they had better become much quicker and smarter in their response to Obama lies and distortions. The response to the "Romney caused the death of the steelworker's wife" ad was one of the worst in modern political history: "If they'd lived in Mass. they'd have had health insurance".

I agree with you about making the case for capitalism. I just don’t expect anyone other than we political junkies to appreciate that argument.
There are some lazy conservatives out there who are still asleep even after the tea party success of 2010.

Then I don't see how the country avoids disaster. Obama's making the case for socialism every single day. Sure, he's not calling it socialism. We don't have to use the word capitalism either. But we have to make the case for less taxation, less government regulation and less entitlement programs. I think we can win that case. If we can't, then we can look forward to a poor country with a low standard of living and no power or influence in the world in the future.

I agree with this 100%. The obama campaign was always going to tie Romney to Ryan’s budget because it helps the democrats, immensely. The problem is that now Romney has a walking 24/7 negative ad at his side from now ‘til November.

I agree that morally, it is absolute cowardice to run from a policy out of fear of opposition ads and attacks. But unfortunately, campaigns are not a time for courage, after the election is time for courage. Cowardice and the status quo vis a vis entitlement programs is now and always has been a winner....and threatening the entitlement status quo is and always has been the third rail. Romney is now electrocuting the hell out of himself with the Ryan pick.
I know this sounds incredibly cynical but this is how democracy has worked since the Greeks invented it. In politics, cowardice is a winner. After you win the election, then you go bold.
Clinton/Gore, talk soft, get elected, go bold and ban assault weapons and raise taxes.
Bush/Cheney, tout “compassionate conservatism” aka we like some democrat programs like entitlements, get elected, then go bold with historical tax cuts and cutting regulations.
Obama/Biden, talk soft about uniting washington and bringing everyone to the table, racial harmony, blah blah, get elected, then go bold by locking the doors on all the Republicans and ramming ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank down our throats.
Romney is going bold first and doing this out of sequence is a political deathtrap.

I think it will have to get worse before it gets better. We have a generation of Americans who don’t appreciate their freedom and don’t understand the results of socialism and communism. They will have to lose the “good life” in order to appreciate it.
Does that mean we shouldn’t try to educate them before it’s too late? Certainly not. We have to try.
But Reagan didn’t talk soft about the dangers of big government, did he? The beautiful thing for him was that his pro-capitalism talk dovetailed perfectly with both domestic and foreign policy, vis a vis the U.S.S.R.
I agree that entitlement programs are going to sound good to many people, especially in a bad economy. Let’s keep in mind though that Ryan is talking about saving Medicare, not overturning it. Our entitlements are headed for insolvency if they aren’t revamped. It’s only the Dems claiming that Ryan’s policies are radical. The “R”’s job is to educate the public that if we go down the path of debt that Obama is leading us, we will be forced into draconian austerity measures and the checks really will stop coming. So, if you like functional entitlement programs, the Republicans really are the only ones who will give you them in the long run.
The Dems really are arguing that up is down and down is up, and they’ve convinced too many people of that. The challenge for the “R”’s is to turn the argument back around to our side. It’s no different from the old “Laffer curve” argument that cutting taxes increases revenue to the government, while Dems argue the opposite. We’re dealing with basic free market philosophy here. If selling the American people on the merits of free market capitalism isn’t possible, then we shouldn’t bother even running. I’d rather lose making that argument and then be able to point to the country’s problems 4 years later and say “we told you so,” then hopefully get elected at that point to try and fix things, if it’s not too late.
Paul Ryan is the ONLY one in government who has put forth a plan to correct the devastating fiscal path this nation is on. Of course he will be red meat for the left an the media, but unlike Sarah Palin four years ago, Ryan knows whats coming and hopefully will be better equipped to handle it.
I am looking forward already to the Ryan-Biden debate. Ryan is about 5 trillion times smarter than Plugs.
Pray for the Romney-Ryan ticket and their success in defeating the Marxist regime in November. The pray for their success in turn this country around.
Have you seen the ages of the lib SC Justices? I GUARANTEE YOU at least ONE of them won’t survive another four years. Ginsburg already has one foot in the grave.
The far more real threat is Scalia and Kennedy retiring because there is a GOP president. There is no way in the world Romney will appoint justices as conservative as these two.
Romney the liberal will appoint liberals just as he did in Massachusetts. The SC will then be solidly liberal for the next 20-30 years.
Its far preferable in my view to, at worst, let Obama appoint a liberal justice to replace Ginsburg than to let Romney decimate the conservative leaning court in the next eight years with the appointment of 3 or 4 liberal justices.
