The other day, I passed a Republican Party county office here in my home state, its window attractively emblazoned with placards declaring "Believe in America. Romney 2012" and "New Hampshire Believes. Romney 2012." There's not a lot of evidence for the latter proposition, but I'm certainly willing to believe that Romney believes that New Hampshire believes.
[Snip]
If it were up to me, the {Romney's] campaign slogan would be "You're screwed, losers. Steyn 2012" or, after yielding to the consultants' internals showing that moderates want something more sunny and upbeat, maybe "Get real, you chumps. Steyn 2012." That's the reason I'm not running. Well, that and the Hawaiian birth certificate.
I wouldn't claim to know what America believes or even what "New Hampshire Believes," but this is what I believe that another four years of the present statist ascendancy will seal America's fate.
As noted here previously, the International Monetary Fund predicts that China will become the world's dominant economic power by 2016. So the guy elected in November will be the first president since Grover Cleveland to know what it feels like to be the global also-ran.
Even this, however, understates the size of catastrophe the United States faces. There are no precedents in history for a great power spending itself to death on the scale America is doing. President Obama has added $5 trillion to the national debt, and has nothing to show for it. Do you know how difficult that is to do?

Sadly you’re quite correct.
Honestly, why do demographic changes have to necessarily doom America? As the white vote gets smaller on a percentage basis, the democrats have shown that they are getting a smaller percentage of it as well. If the dems lose any percentage of the hispanic or black vote than they got in 2008, they lose.
For all the talk of demographics and the fatalistic view that we are ‘doomed’ one just has to look back at the 2010 midterms which paint a more optimistic picture. Where am I wrong on this??
Yep, you’ve nailed it. Couldn’t agree more.
Yeah, there are times when it’s a real pain to be right.
BUMP!
Motivation requires respect... and respect is earned... not given.

The mid-term electorate tends to be a smaller, more energized, more ideological slice of the population. In Presidential election years, the electorate is the whole enchilada.. more minorities and more people who aren`t otherwise involved.
In which case, I confess to being "guilty". It was I who voted for Ross Perot..."to send them a message".
Here in VA willard will be mobbed by 10s of his supporters.
I’ve never seen an election like this. The ads on TV and radio are nonstop. And no one seems to care.
I doff my hat to MS. How he continually turns such phrases eludes me. Superb!
And shout, at the top of our lungs, "Defend Youself! Defend The Country. Defend US, Dammit!".
I've voted in 10 Presidential elections.Haven't missed a single one for which I was legally eligible and I'm proud to say that every candidate for whom I voted got at least 100 Electoral votes. And I don't intend to break that streak this November.
I agree with you and I intend to support Romney as actively as I possibly can.
One thing about him, he does fix things. I think that should be his slogan: Mitt fixes things.
I don’t know if he can fix the mess we are in, but I was horrified to read that our national debt is a million dollars per family. That’s terrifying.
Somebody needs to at least start really try to fix it. Guaranteed Obama 2.0 will only make it worse.
It's not about blame, its about "principles". I was in that camp earlier this year until I realized that sometimes it really is better to vote for the lesser of two evils.
I think we can control Romney down ticket, but we will never control Obama down-ticket because he does not care at all about the rule of law.
Once he withdrew and then came back in, I dismissed him.
Remember what he said about what the FRee Traitors were trying to push though?
It took a little time, but that sucking sound came and went.
Look what’s left. IMO, he sure nailed that one.
If he hadn’t pulled out, I may very well may have voted for him. I was seriously considering it.
“I support Romney, and I’m not rattled by a bad week’s polls. But I am bothered that Romney’s insipid message does not rise to the challenge this nation faces. Maybe the milquetoast pantywaist candy-assed soft-focus “Believe in America” shtick will prove sufficient under a relentless barrage of nakedly thuggish attack ads designed to Barry Goldwater the guy. But John Podhoretz, editor of Commentary, thinks not:
“This is a race he should be able to win,” he wrote, “so if he loses, it won’t be because Obama won it. It will be because he lost it.”
Just so. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. The hour is late, and the man needs to get in the game.”
Devastating.
But correct.
We see how that worked out, right? I'm not being confrontational - I am guilty as well.
I'm voting for Romney, I'm saving my "message" my "principles" this go-round to try and get this country back on track.
I know RomneyCare, all that stuff..but its well beyond that now, this is our Country. Regardless of the social messages and disagreements, I do not believe Romney hates this country. I believe that Obama does, though - and I'm voting against him.
It is time to ignore the social issues and just get the kenyan OUT!
We'll deal with the social issues after the election.
