After Manzano finished his race and secured his medal, he did what athletes typically do at the Olympics. He held up his country's flag -- the Stars and Stripes.
The 27-year-old was born in Mexico, but the United States is his country now. His father migrated here illegally from the city of Dolores Hidalgo. Manzano was brought here when he was 4. Like most immigrants, they came in search of greater opportunity. And they found it -- for themselves, and their children.
You can't help but be proud of Manzano and the country that allowed him the opportunity to fulfill his potential.
So why did Manzano carry two flags with him on his victory lap? As the world looked on, he held up both the U.S. flag and the Mexican flag. Not a good look. And not a good idea.

Just another reason why I didn't watch a second of the U.N. Olympics.
I'd rather watch reruns of Green Acres than watch skinny idiots like this given a stage for their anti-U.S. agendas.

It’s all about race. He could care less about Mexico and doesn’t even remember living there at 4 years old. He has an inferiority complex due to his brown skin. Pretty pathetic.

I'm sorry Leo carried the Mexican Flag with ours and I wish he hadn't but I have seen Leo run in Marble Falls since he was in middle school and he is a very respectful and hard working kid. He ran for the University of Texas and I believe he graduated. We had 22 athletes from Texas A&M running in the Olympics and many of them ran for another country. Some were Americans and some were not. I think Leo Manzano is a great American but I agree he probably made a bad choice on this. However I hope he stays.

Send him back to Mexico with a bill for all the opportunity and training he received while in the USA.These folks aren't capable of suppressing identity politics. Hard to explain. The impression, however is inescapable. I am an immigrant. I actually was older than this person when I arrived in the US, yet, after my 18th birthday, my identity is unequivocally American. My entire adult identity was shaped by the U.S., with all its imperfections.
If this person felt the need to celebrate his Mexican Heritage (which contributed zero to his success and present status) he could have waited until he visited Mexico.
Goes without saying that I certainly expect that his image will appear only on Mexican corn flakes boxes.
I further expect that he will sink into permanent obscurity just like the idiots from the 1968 moron Olympians. Not the brightest representative we are likely to remember on the 2012 U.S. Olympics team.
Why didn't he participate for the Mexican team?
Es verdaderamente un imbecil ingrato!

Living proof that Mexico doesn’t do very well in the Olympics because everyone there who can run jump or swim is already in the U.S.A.. ;)

Yes, Meh-Hee-Co, where European white men control 90% of the wealth and treat the indigenous population like crap. Why would any hispanic honor such a country by showing their flag is beyond me.

He competed for the USA because he is an American citizen!

According to the story, he became a US citizen. So regardless of how he got here, he is not here illegally at this point. He's carrying a Mexican flag while presenting the USA. So much of the loyalty oath. /s

Manzano posted messages on Twitter throughout the competition -- in Spanish and English. After his victory, he tweeted, "Silver medal, still felt like I won! Representing two countries USA and Mexico!
(excerpt- close of article)
Leo, con todo respeto (with all due respect), you should be proud of your accomplishment. You deserve it. But when you're an Olympic athlete, you don't get to have your cake and eat it, too. Sooner or later, you have to choose which country you're going to represent. And you did. You made that choice, when you put on the jersey for Team USA.
It wasn't unlike the choice your parents made when they chose the United States over Mexico a quarter century ago. They voted with their feet. It would be nice if you haven't left your heart behind.
This country took you in during your hour of need. Now in your moment of glory, which country deserves your respect -- the one that offered nothing to your parents and forced them to leave or the one that took you all in and gave you the opportunity to live out your dreams?
The answer should be obvious
You say you've watched him race locally, he's a nice guy', hard working, blah, blah, blah.
Surprise, surprise. Once he and his family entered illegally they all became liars 24 hours a day to all but immediate family. We see it here on the east coast. That sort of reinforced dishonesty takes its toll on the character and soul over time, first step on a slippery slope.
You wish he hadn't done that. Was that to allow you to continue turning a blind eye?
I'm glad he revealed himself as the ungrateful scorpion, maybe more people will wake up and look behind that tio taco facade.

” To me it is as simple as complete disrespect for the country that took his skinny A$$ in and that made it possible for him to participate in the olympics.”
I won’t be long before the ‘new immigrant’ won’t even bother to present a USA flag. We have enough of them now with no allegience to this country to destroy it.

Thank you AuntB.
I have always appreciated your attention to detail when it came to this issue.
We’re obviously a mutual admiration society, but I can live with that just fine.
Hugs...

People who are inclined to pat this kid on the back, have never stood on a sidewalk and watched people seven lanes wide plum full of this kids fellow compatriots march by in numbers so vast, it took a full half hour for them to do so, with no U. S. flags and too numerous to count Mexican and anarchist flags flying high. I have more than once.
People haven't see all the signs those people were carrying. They haven't seen how vile and anti-American and anti-Western nations they were. They haven't seen the separtist supporting signs. They haven't seen the intended flag of Astlan they carry, which is an 'out' separatist movement, that focuses on the state of California to start, if they get their way. They haven't see the evidence of union thuggery, and well connected university players taking part. They haven't seen posters supporting the Palestinians, and advocating the destruction of Israel. They haven't see their appearance, their demeanor, and heard the songs and slogans they were chanting.
Astlan and the reconquista is what they are hawking. There are countless vile Leftist, anarchist, and Marxist organizations involved too. We're talking fellow traveler with known terrorist organizatons from the Middle-East, Central and South America, the Philippines, and South East Asia. It isn't some sweet little incident that this kid is representative of, even if it is through no fault of his own. The fact is, the approval of illegal aliens to come here and stay, feeds the Leftist machine. There's no extracting one here and one there. And if it were possible, who is one here and one there? One guy doing something he's praised for today, is one guy that on another day will be out there demading Whites get off their land.
I defy any loyalist U. S. Citizen to witness these sorts of events, and think all this constitutes an issue that is blown up all out of proportion.
The fellow travelers these groups connect with, have nothing at all in common with us. They are our enemies. They are the enemies of our nation. We have tens of millions of them within our borders.
Sorta takes the luster off what this kid is being depicted as. Heralding this illegal being here, is heralding all of it.
No thank you.
BTW: I know people of Mexican extration that completely agree with what I am pointing out here. They think we are absolutely crazy to allow what we have been allowing.
Legal Hispanic U. S. Citizens? No problem. Illegal Hispanic people who have poured to the U. S. without due process, no way. We MUST put an end to this.

Illegal immigration is NOT a victimless crime.... It still comes down to this....
“Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone —
that they have not first taken away from someone else.”
When ‘citzenship’ is so frivolously handed out, ours is diminished if not outright destroyed.

Last time I looked, when someone is naturalized they renounce all allegiance to their former country and swear allegiance to the US. So how is he a Mexican citizen?
