WASHINGTON Concerning Mormons and Republicans, history offers a large helping of irony. In 1843, an Army officer named John C. Fremont led a geographical expedition of 39 men more than 1,700 miles to the shores of the Great Salt Lake. His report on the journey inspired hounded Mormons to mount their wagons and resettle in the Great Basin.
Thirteen years later in Philadelphia, Fremont became the first presidential nominee of the Republican Party, which adopted a platform opposing the "twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery." The slogan, and the anti-Mormon sentiment behind it, caught on. A Republican rally in Indianapolis, reportedly attended by 60,000 people, included an ox-drawn parade wagon depicting Brigham Young along with six wives dressed in hoop skirts, each with a little Brigham in her arms.
...In the typology of sociologists Robert Putnam and David Campbell, Mormons remain a rejected "out-group," unlike accepted "in-groups" such as Catholics and Jews. Large majorities of Americans perceive Mormonism as "very different" from their own religious beliefs.
But in this case, the counsel of religious reticence is wrong. Romney should not be afraid to highlight his faith.

Questions remain about the role of Mormonism in depressing evangelical political enthusiasm. Some religious conservatives are concerned that a Romney presidency would provide theological legitimacy for a rival, proselytizing faith. But it is unclear how silence from Romney on religion would mitigate this fear. And a portion of the evangelical enthusiasm gap is explainable for another reason entirely: the suspicions of social conservatives about the authenticity of Romney's social conservatism.

This does not mean Romney should quote from the Book of Jarom in his convention speech...

Yup...the GoP was FOUNDED upon social issues...of protecting the civil rights of blacks, and protecting the institution of marriage as one man, one woman...See, how far the u-turn has gone...where RINOism has embraced a candidate who is "pro-choice" about whether parents should adopt out their pre-born -- or "donate" him or her to "research" (see next post for specifics).
From the article: Romney should not be afraid to highlight his faith.
By all means, Mitt Romney, please tell us all about your illustrious life that has gone from "spirit cradle" on a planet near Kolob to a planet you'll rule one day as a rival competing "god" to THE God. Would be quite interesting discussion. Gab away. (Please!)

I'm an Evangelical. Romney won't "depress" my vote; he'll just permanently chase me away as a registered GoP voter!
But...back to that comment: Yup, and yup.
You see, it's not just that Mormonism is a "rival" to Evangelicals in terms of new member numbers, but it's a rival in even the "numbers" of how many "gods" presented to the world as being linked with Mormonism's promotion... (Lds = multi-godISM)
And the "legitimacy" question is a real one that Evangelicals & other Christians need to weigh carefully: Bill Clinton was a presidential role-model disaster for our young generation re: the scandal. Any president the voting block elevates to the highest role model position in our land accords the highest vote of respectability in the public mind to aspects of what that person stands for. If that person, for example, were a neatly tucked-away communist who's adopted a mask of "family values," & we elect him president, we are telling our kids that communism is "OK" to emulate. Furthermore, we are handing proselytizing fuel to communists everywhere. It would fuel their door-to-door boldness and other aggressive campaigns to be able to say, "See. Our respectable Communist leader holds the highest office in the land. Come study what helped make the man he is today!"
So...Yup I can see it now...1950s kids who wanted to be "like Ike when I grow up"; and 2010s kids who clamor, "Mom, when I grow up, I want to be an alien 'god' from near Kolob like Mitt!"
(Nah...Mitt couldn't have possibly given any reasons to suspect his commitment to the pre-born, could he have???)
YEAR | Obvious Pro-Abortion Romney | Romney Feigning 'Pro-Life' |
Bottom-Line Summary: ANN Romney Lies Thru Her Teeth | Ann Romney, 1994: Romney's wife gives donation to Planned Parenthood (Ann Romneys Planned Parenthood Donation) | Ann Romney, 2011: In the past youve said hes changed positions only once, on abortion. Was that your doing? No, no, I never talked to Mitt about that. Our personal opinions have never changed; weve always been pro-life (Ann Romney Reveals Mitt's Softer Side) |
Bottom-Line Summary: Mitt Romney Lies Thru His Teeth | Over the last multiple years, as you know, I have been effectively pro-choice." (Bruce Smith, "Romney Campaigns in SC with Sen. DeMint," The Associated Press, 1/29/07) + ...my position was effectively pro-choice." (Source: 2007 GOP Iowa Straw Poll debate 8/5/2007) | So, not only does Ann Romney tell Parade Magazine November 2011 that they've never changed re: abortion and that they've always been pro-life, but Mitt Romney told Chris Wallace part-way through their 2007 campaign that: I never allowed myself to use the word pro-choice because I didn't FEEL I was pro-choice. I would protect the law, I said, as it was, but I wasn't pro-choice...This was seven months after he said in January 2007 that he was always for life. |
Romney, goin' back to 1970 when Romney's Mom ran for Senate | "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time when my Mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. (October, 1994 Senatorial debate vs. Ted Kennedy) | "'He's been a pro-life Mormon faking it as a pro-choice friendly,'" Romney adviser Michael Murphy told the conservative National Review..., says the Concord Monitor = So I guess that made him a below-the-radar "flip" acting like a "flop?" |
1994 (Campaign) | "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time when my Mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years that we should sustain and support it, and I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." (October, 1994 Senatorial debate vs. Ted Kennedy) = Mitt the flipster from what most LDS represent their faith as being...BTW, Romney uses the strongest word possible for support sustain ...Note for non-Mormons: Lds use the word sustain for support for their own prophet | Romney has since invoked a "nuanced stance" about what he was in 1994: He says "Look, I was pro-choice. I am pro-life. You can go back to YouTube and look at what I said in 1994. I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice. (Source: Source: 2007 GOP Iowa Straw Poll debate Aug 5, 2007) |
1994 (Planned Parenthood ties) → 2001 | (a) Romney's wife gives donation to Planned Parenthood (a href="http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/ann-romneys-planned-parenthood-donation/">Ann Romneys Planned Parenthood Donation (b) On June 12, 1994, Romney himself attends private Planned Parenthood event at home of a sister-in-law of a Planned Parenthood board member where the president of Planned Parenthood recalls talking to Romney: "Nicki Nichols Gamble, a former president and chief executive of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, said today that the photo shows Mitt and Ann Romney at a private home in Cohasset in June 1994." Source: See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1941932/posts; "Gamble said the pic was snapped at an event at GOP activist Eleanor Bleakies house and that she clearly remembered speaking with Romney at the event." Source: See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1941627/posts; "In fact Romney personally attended the Planned Parenthood event in question on June 12, 1994. Gamble, the President of Massachusuetts Planned Parenthood in 1994, also attended the event at the home of a Republican, Eleanor Bleakie, the sister-in-law of a Planned Parenthood Board member. Both Romney and Michael Kennedy, who appeared on behalf of nephew of Ted Kennedy, attended the event." Source: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1941240/posts | 2001: "I do not wish to be labeled pro-choice." (Mitt Romney, Letter to the Editor, The Salt Lake Tribune, 7/12/01) = So he doesn't want to be known as a "flop" (so what is he?) |
2002-2004 | I will preserve and protect a womans right to choose, and have devoted and am dedicated to honoring my word in that regard (Nov. 2, 2002) = Well, now guess what? He's solidly pro-abortion AGAIN! See also: "I respect and will protect a woman's right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government's." (Stephanie Ebbert, "Clarity Sought On Romney's Abortion Stance," The Boston Globe, 7/3/05) = Ah, back securely in the "flop" saddle again? | Nov. '04: Romney & his wife had simultaneous pro-life "conversions" linked to stem cell research: Romney met w/Dr. Douglas Melton from Harvard Stem Cell Institute: He recalls that it happened in a single revelatory moment, during a Nov. 9, 2004, meeting with an embryonic-stem-cell researcher who said he didn't believe therapeutic cloning presented a moral issue because the embryos were destroyed at 14 days. "It hit me very hard that we had so cheapened the value of human life in a Roe v. Wade environment that it was important to stand for the dignity of human life," Romney says. Source: Time Mag, March 9, 2007 = (So the pro-abortion-but-no-pro-choice-label-please-is-now-a-pro-life-convert?) |
2005 | May 27 2005: Romney affirms his commitment to being "pro-choice" at a press conference. ("I am absolutely committed to my promise to maintain the status quo with regards to laws relating to abortion and choice.") = OK, this is at least a flop from November '04! | What about his gubernatorial record '03-'06? Mitt later says his actions were ALL pro-life. I assume somewhere in '05 some 'pro-life' decisions. "As governor, Ive had several pieces of legislation reach my desk, which would have expanded abortion rights in Massachusetts. Each of those I vetoed. Every action Ive taken as the governor that relates to the sanctity of human life, I have stood on the side of life." = So, THESE ACTIONS were not only an '02 commitment reversal, but his May 27, '05 press conference commitment as well. So "flipping" is beginning to be routine |
2006 | April 12, 2006--Mitt signs his "Commonwealth Care" into existence, thereby expanding abortion access/taxpayer funded abortions for women--including almost 2% of the females of his state who earn $75,000 or more. (Wait a minute, I thought he told us post-'06 that ALL of his actions were "pro-life?"). Also, not only this, but as governor, Romney could exercise veto power to portions of Commonwealth Care. Did Romney exercise this power? (Yes, he vetoed Sections 5, 27, 29, 47, 112, 113, 134 & 137). What prominent section dealing with Planned Parenthood as part of the "payment policy advisory board" did Romney choose NOT to veto? (Section 3) That section mandates that one member of MassHealth Payment Policy Board must be appointed by Planned Parenthood League of MA. (See chapter 58 of the Acts of 2006, section 3 for details). | "As governor, Ive had several pieces of legislation reach my desk, which would have expanded abortion rights in Massachusetts. Each of those I vetoed. Every action Ive taken as the governor that relates |
Early 2007 | On January 29, 2007 during South Carolina visit, Romney stated: Over the last multiple years, as you know, I have been effectively pro-choice." (Bruce Smith, "Romney Campaigns in SC with Sen. DeMint," The Associated Press, 1/29/07) = OK how could "every action I've taken as the governor that relates to the sanctity of human life..." AND this statement BOTH be true? | Another South Carolina campaign stop has Romney uttering "I was always for life: "I am firmly pro-life I was always for life." (Jim Davenport, "Romney Affirms Opposition to Abortion," The Associated Press, 2/9/2007) = Oh, of course as the above shows, he's always been pro-life! |
Summer 2007 | "I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice." Source: 2007 GOP Iowa Straw Poll debate 8/5/2007 = OK...looking at '94 & '02 campaigns, both his public statements, his 2002 voter guide responses, & his actions (which are a major form of expression, ya know!) how could he say he "never said" he was "pro-choice?" | Then comes his 8/12/07 interview with Chris Wallace of Fox: "I never called myself pro-choice. I never allowed myself to use the word pro-choice because I didn't FEEL I was pro-choice. I would protect the law, I said, as it was, but I wasn't pro-choice, and so..." = Whatever he was from '70 when his mom ran as pro-abortion senator & he sided w/ her, to 5/27/05, w/whatever interruption he had due to a pro-life altar call in Nov of '04, whatever that was...well, he assures us it wasn't a pro-abortion 'inlook' or outlook 'cause he didn't feel "pro-choice..." = So does that make him a life-long pro-lifer? |
December 2007 vs. November 2011 (Pro-treating offspring as research refuse late in previous POTUS campaign vs. now claiming 'never changed...always pro-life' | December 4, 2007: Romney: ...surplus embryos...Those embryos, I hope, could be available for adoption for people who would like to adopt embryos. But if a parent decides they would want to donate one of those embryos for purposes of research, in my view, that's acceptable. It should not be made against the law." (Source: Candidates Reveal Their Biggest Mistakes) Any "inquiring minds" want to try wrapping their minds around how a politician in one sentence mentions "adopting" embryos out (yes, a great thing to mention!) -- but then in the very NEXT breath says if a "PARENT" wants to be "pro-choice" (Mitt used the word "decides" which is what "pro-choicers" say they want) "to donate one of those embryos for purposes of research, in my view, that's acceptable." Say what???? How about 8-month gestationally-aged infants in the womb, Mitt? Or already-born infants, too, Mitt? If a "parent decides they would want to donate one of those...for purposes of research, in my view, that's acceptable..." No??? What's the 'pro-life' difference, Mitt? Here you call an embryo's mom&dad "parents" -- but "parents" w/ "research" give-away rights? How bizarre we have such a schizophrenic "candidate!" | In the past youve said hes changed positions only once, on abortion. Was that your doing? No, no, I never talked to Mitt about that. Our personal opinions have never changed; weve always been pro-life (Ann Romney Reveals Mitt's Softer Side) |
How does his religion affect you?
You seem pretty angry. Maybe you’d prefer what we have now?
Doesn’t sound angry. Sounds fully informed.
(Note: The Book of Jarom is the fifth "book" within the Book of Mormon)
(Yeah...I can see it now...Mitt being sworn in as president on ALL FOUR MORMON sacred "scriptures": The Book of Mormon; the Pearl of Great Price; Doctrines & Covenants; and the Bible...nothing like voters legitimizing Mormon counterfeits as "scripture")
We are in the mess we are in in the GOP PRECISELY because we ALWAYS can be relied upon to say, “we;;, at least our guys isn’t *fill in the blank*” Until we stop that, we are going to be beaten like a rag doll and ignored by the elite.
As many have said, and I agree, Romney WILL be worse because it will mean the death of conservatism. At least we can fight Hussein in the Senate and House. We can survive until 2016 ... but not with Romney.
MYTH ROMNEY is a military service avoiding coward, douche bag, and liar from a family of cowards, douche bags, and liars.
[Americans perceive Mormonism as “very different” from their own religious beliefs.]
They believe in Christ - a different story - but it’s better than believing in Socialism - which we now have in the W/H.
Or maybe Islam??? Everything about Commissar Obmam is unknown...
I believe the author of this piece is hoping the majority of Conservatives, Tea Party, GOP, and cross-over Democrats don’t vote at all - and Obama wins with a minority being the majority vote...
I don’t think we need to worry about religion - it’s about turning this nation around back to the way Reagan had it... and keep it there!
Sounds like Opposition Research, to me.
Quick, forward this over to the DNC
You seem pretty angry at me. How does my religious comments affect you?
You seem pretty angry at me. How does my religio-political comments affect you?
Article from a Mormon newspaper.
Man, your in every thread pitching the same line.
So tell me, how is Sen. Christine O’Donnell doing?
Yeah, Mitt: Totally confused about being pro-life or pro-death
Obozo: Totally in favor of ALL abortions and killing the baby after it's born if "mommy" doesn't want it (some call that infanticide). Choice is rather clear:
Romney is a U.S. citizen, Obozo is not.
Romney is a clean family man, Obozo is a homosexual married to an American hating disgusting woman.
I'm not happy with Romney as my choice since he's a devout democrat running as a RINO, but I'd rather have a U.S. citizen who loves this country than a Kenyan-born, illegal alien imposter . . . and a devout muslim besides.
Overheard at the latest Obama reelection strategy meeting at ABC, NBC, and CBS:
"Just keep 'em talking about what they're talking about. Remember we have the Mormon card and the race card to distract 'em if necessary. Whatever you do DON"T let 'em get anywhere near the REAL issues about Obama's record and our economy."
Well, don't "conveniently" forget Mitt's statism in MA...including being THE pioneer of socialist healthcare...(what a short "memory" conservatives seem to have 'round here)
Oh, and as for "socialism" in Mitt's "faith of his fathers" that he openly embraces, it wound up "inspiring" Russia's communism per a Mormon writer (see far column at right, first row below)
Time to review just a few "hints & clues" -- coupled with what I said in my last post...
How has Romney's Mormonism effected his governing in Bay State & His campaign statements?
GOV. Romney | Mormon 'scripture' & History | Sources | Quotes |
ObamaCare based upon RomneyCare [SoConPubbie has posted some threads the week of April 16, 2012 along these lines]. In addition, what about Romney's $50 taxpayer-subsidized abortions -- and some $0 abortions -- he permanently imposed a Planned Parenthood rep into supervision of RomneyCare? (Since he vetoed other portions of that legislation, the Planned Parenthood rep section was also something he could have vetoed). For all of the pro-abortion damage done by Romney in the Bay State, see: RomneyCare Now Funding FREE Abortions: A Disqualifier for Mitt Romneys Candidacy [Enabler Mitt] | Mitt's Mormonism embraced socialism/communism under the 'United Order' sacred commands still on the Mormon scriptures depicted to be everlasting commandments of the Mormon god | The Mormon socialistic/communistic everlasting nature of the United Order depicted in Lds scriptures Doctrine & Covenants 82:18-19 and 104:1, 48, 53. | Even Lds author George Givens described Brigham Youngs communist-built community of Orderville, Utah as pure communism: "When Brigham Young established Orderville and similar United Orders, John Taylor was less than enthusiastic. He realized that enterprises such as Orderville were pure communism and not the law of consecration. He made this plain after he became President, when in 1882 he sent an epistle to all authorities of the Church in which he bluntly stated: 'We had no example of the 'United Order' in accordance with the word of God on the subject...Our relations with the world and our own imperfections prevent the establishment of this system [i.e. the system of consecration and stewardship spoken of at times as the 'United Order'] at the present time, as was stated by Joseph in an early day, it cannot yet be carried out.'" (George W. Givens, 500 More Little-Known Facts in Mormon History, 2004, p. 169)"One of the most famous utopian books ever written was Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy, published in 1889. Some scholars believe Looking Backward had considerable influence in the making of Lenin's Soviet Russia. If this is true, then [ensuing Lds "prophet"] Lorenzo Snow and the Latter-day Saints must receive some of the credit--or blame. Hearing of the success of the United Order in Brigham City, Edward Bellamy made a special trip to Utah in 1886 to study its operation. There he spent three days with Lorenzo Snow, Brigham City's founder and forty-year resident. Impressed with the thirty to forty industries run by its 2,000 inhabitants and the vitality at that time of one of the most successful United Orders, Bellamy returned home and wrote his influential book." (500 More Little-Known Facts in Mormon History, p. 185). Way to go, 19th century Mormon leader-prophets of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor & Lorenzo Snow!!! They all unwittingly fueled Soviet Communism! |
Mitt Romney is incredibly soft on illegal aliens | Recent Lds history: 2 LDS branch presidents in Utah deported to Guatemala, El Salvador | 10 reasons Christians should reject Romney | In 2006 Gov. Romney supported the presidents immigration policy as well as the McCain-Kennedy bill. He expressed support for an immigration program that places large numbers of illegal residents on the path toward citizenship. [without requiring they return home and wait their turn, allowing them to cut in line before law-abiding immigrants] Never mind that Romney hired (then fired) illegal aliens to landscape his yard. If Romney supports unlimited amnesty without any rule of law, how will he stand on national security? |
Gov. Romney pro-civil unions for same-sex couples 2002-2005 (before he turned against it) and he is still in favor of taxpayer-funded domestic partnership benefits for sexual minorities. He says he supports 'Partnership agreements'. Also, Gov. Romney sucked up to the Bay State Gay Log Cabin...saying he would give the GLBT youth funding a greater spotlight at the fed level to emulate he was endorsed twice by the Log Cabin Club of MA; he said in 1994 and reiterated in 2007 that he was in favor of forcing businesses to hire alternative sexual minorities (in 94 he wanted feds to do it; now he wants the states to do it...his third position on that issue). | Recent Lds history: Homosexual rights: Mormon church supports Salt Lake City's protections for gay rights and Mormons Back Salt Lake City Gay Rights Laws | 10 reasons Christians should reject Romney and Mitt Romneys deception, His Stealth Promotion of Gay Rights and Gay Marriage in Massachusetts, book by Amy Contrada | Per Amy Contradas book, Mitt Romneys deception, His Stealth Promotion of Gay Rights and Gay Marriage in Massachusetts, Gov. Romney, from 2003-2006: worked closely with homosexual activists and pro-gay rights advisers; implemented gay marriage through his executive departments without legislative authorization, violating the Massachusetts Constitution; pushed a constitutional amendment strategy doomed to failure, and ignored the call to remove the activist judges who ruled for gay marriage; funded and promoted GLBT indoctrination in the public schools through his Governors Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and his Department of Education Safe Schools programs; undermined religious freedom, failing to defend Catholic Charities in the homosexual adoptions fiasco; continued or implemented radical homosexual and transgender programs in his executive departments. |
Most years of Romney's record which he has talked about abortion, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2004 -- he has used his candidate and gubernatorial bully pulpit to encourage female citizens, readers & listeners to be pro-choice about the baby inside of them. (For those who try to claim hes "changed," hes equivocated in 2007 numerous times about what his pre-2007 stance was saying in January of '07 hes always been for life and saying in August '07 that he never called himself pro-choice, never allowed himself to feel or call himself pro-choice, and that he was never pro-choice. By December of 2007, he was telling Katie Couric in an interview that it was OK for parents to donate their otherwise adoptable embryos to research...my, how pro-life of him...Should all parents consider such donations regardless of the age of their offspring? Why not, Mitt? And click on the first link in the "sources" column to the right to see the true abortion "legacy" of Romney, especially the year 2006 | For the official Mormon church position on abortion, see http://www.religioustolerance.org/lds_abor.htm. Apparently, it's "OK" for an abortion if... (a) Incest needs to be covered up; (b) The baby is disabled and needs to be destroyed accordingly; (c) Mom's "health" (whatever that means...distinct from saying "life" of the mother); (d) If the abortionist says it's "OK"; (e) If the Mormon god says it's "OK" in prayer...E alone above could "justify" abortion to individual Mormons as long it overrides the person's conscience! |

What about Marion G. Romney, cousin to Mitt's father? | Who was he in Lds hierarchy? (Title: 'President' - Top 3 of church as 2nd counselor to both #11 & #12 Lds 'prophets') | (Things As They Really Are, p. 73). Cited in official Lds publication, Search the Commandments: Melchizedek Priesthood Personal Study Guide, pp. 275-276 (1984) | "Elder Neal A. Maxwell has said: 'Following the living prophets is something that must be done in all seasons and circumstances. We must be like President Marion G. Romney, who humbly said, '..I have never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional, and political life' (Conference Report, April 1941, p. 123). There are, or will be moments when prophetic declarations collide with our pride or our seeming personal interests...Do I believe in the living prophet even when he speaks on matters affecting me and my specialty directly? Or do I stop sustaining the prophet when his words fall in my territory? if the latter, the prophet is without honor in our country! |
No, that filthy commie muzzie needs to go. He cannot be controlled. He will rule with his executive orders, Holder and his czars. Squash that POS
Mitt says he was literally "spirit born" on a planet near Kolob...why is it so many FREEPERs refuse to take him at his word -- on this and other "tales" about his past? (Is it because his word is UNtrustworthy???
"Man, your in every thread pitching the same line.
So tell me, how is Sen. Christine ODonnell doing?"
What is your sophomoric misogynistic remark for?
Typical RomneyBOT woman-hate and conservative-hate, is it not?
Oh - I read everything that you and everyone before has posted - and I agree...Mitt is one of those politicians that runs with the wind - no matter what direction it’s blowing to get elected and stay elected...in the end, we conservatives have got to do better. Obama should have never been on the ballot - let alone get elected. Romney is a poster boy that may (and I hate to say this) get Obama re-elected. He’s not great - I agree - that diagram you have up is excellent.
If he does get elected I hope the wind is blowing away from Socialism - and back towards Reagan Era progress and that is what he does in the end...
Of course - look at where we are at! This should have never happened - but it did...my head hurts thinking about it.
I feel like a Pelosi saying, “Let’s elect Romney and then we can see what he does.”
I think either way are in for it...(gotta think positive thoughts)
