Romney’s silence on Chick-fil-A may cause voters to ‘simply stay at home,’ Donohue warns

LAS VEGAS, August 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Mitt Romney’s decision not to condemn mayors threatening to deny Chick-fil-A the right to do business was a missed opportunity and may cost him votes in November, a growing chorus of social conservatives warn.

Last Friday in Las Vegas, when a reporter asked the Republican presidential nominee about the controversy over Chick-fil-A and charges about a diplomat’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, he replied, “Those are not things that are part of my campaign.”

After company president Dan Cathy said he supported Biblical marriage, homosexual organizations called for a boycott, and several prominent Democratic mayors threatened to withhold permits for the Christian business to operate in their cities. The fast food chain broke sales records during the August 1 “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” called by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Christian radio talk show host Bryan Fischer asked, “Well, governor, exactly what was not a part of your campaign? The part about natural marriage? The part about freedom of religion? The part about freedom of speech? The part about freedom of entrepreneurship? What? If you will not publicly stand for those values, what will you stand for?” These questions were echoed by talk show host Mark Levin.

“Social conservatives have to make up their mind whether they should just simply stay at home, or go out there and vote for Romney,” Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, said. “I’m astonished that he couldn’t even come to grips with the question. Leaving gays out of it, do we want the chief executives, the mayors of large cities trying to intimidate, using the power of government against private enterprises whose politics they disagree with? I think it’s a pretty simple issue.”

Click “like” if you want to defend true marriage.

Several conservative writers confessed to being flummoxed by Romney’s absence, calling it a “missed opportunity.”

“I don’t understand why Mitt Romney doesn’t just get his Secret Service detail and take his press corps down to a Chicken-fil-A and show solidarity with these people,” said columnist and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. “It’s instinct. Reagan would have walked right on down there naturally.”

To excite the party’s base, Richard Viguerie, a conservative activist for more than 50 years, has suggested the GOP invite Dan Cathy to address the Republican National Convention. “Republicans should oblige President Obama’s desire to make same-sex marriage a central issue in the November election, and campaign unequivocally as the party of the traditional values Dan Cathy stood for,” Viguerie wrote.

Even prominent members of the party’s neoconservative wing, which has little time for social issues and generally supports the homosexual lobby, encouraged Romney to stop at Chick-fil-A. “Didn’t happen,” wrote Bill Kristol.

Some supporters of same-sex “marriage” have defended the beleaguered chicken chain.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a social liberal who considered running against Romney as an independent presidential candidate, said “it’s inappropriate for a city government or a state government or the federal government to look at somebody’s political views and decide whether or not they can live in the city or operate a business in the city or work for somebody in the city.”

Congressman Barney Frank, who recently “married” his boyfriend, agreed, “I don’t think government should discriminate against Chick-fil-A because of the views of the owner.”/

Even Antoine Dodson, the flamboyantly homosexual subject of a viral video, has said, “A lot of people from the gay community was [sic] actually telling me not to eat at Chick-fil-A and then you know, I started having these flashbacks, because I started believing like, the gay community — we have went [sic] from being bullied to becoming bullies,” he said. “And I don’t think that that is fair, because I’m like, aren’t we like in America? Like, we have freedom of speech.”

“I don’t think it’s American,” he said.

I challenge anyone here to lay out a good case as to why the President (any president or candidate, not Romney or Obama, necessarily) should get involved in this CFA issue at all.

I do not hate Romney, I don’t even know him.
I do know his record, it’s liberal and apparently you do as well because you listed them on your post.

It is clear that Romney’s path to the Presidency does not include reaching out to conservatives. His campaign must think they can pick-up enough “moderates” to carry the day.
And pick-up just enough conservative voters.
We shall see how all this works out.
However, don’t be surprised if Romney makes a hard turn right
about 2-3 weeks before the election. It will be an indication
that polls show Romney’s “Moderate” plan is not working and that he will need more conservatives to win.

I won’t be staying at home on November 6, but I won’t be voting for this turd.

On Nov.6, I will vote for him but then I will have to go home and take a long shower with bleach, lye, Lysol and antibiotics.

Why could it not have been Sarah? So sad.

I am personally in the ‘fight’ against two homosexuals getting married and having the central socialist government edict such a challenge to God!

The CEO merely expressed his views, which are those of a large percentage of intelligent Americans. Those that think this is a good idea are either homosexuals or their drooling, hand-dragging moron sycophants.

Since you're so smart - the converse must be true. I got one for you that you can wear proudly....

“I’m NOT with stupid. Obama in November!”

My first choice. Only to be left deeply disappointed. The right candidate for the right time. Still can't get over it, considering how 'public' she's been in her activities since then. It truly was a darn shame. As you said, so sad!

No argument here, but the fight belongs where you and I are at—not at the Presidency. Unless we’re talking a Constitutional amendment (which we’re not), Romney shouldn’t be talking at all. This was a case of private citizen, privately-owned company, homosexual activists, predictable leftist media, radio show hosts, a couple of idiot mayors, and grassroots consumer support all going at it together. In the end, no Federal laws were broken, the homosexuals and their supporters ended up looking like idiots, and it’s all good.

Romney and/or Obama injecting themselves into the issue is pointless and self-defeating, ESPECIALLY for Romney. If he says he’s against CFA, he burns up what little right-wing credentials he has. If he says he’s for CFA, then the media gets to sharpshoot him from here ‘til November, with Obama and his surrogates more than willing to throw gas on the fire the entire time.

Presidents should stick to presidential issues, and this isn’t one.

Post Script to #34above. . .while our Leadership abandons Party values; we can only work to the contrary to insure America does not collapse into a collective oblivion.

We know at least, that Mitt will abandon our Constitution; nor will he have the Muslim Brotherhood operating from our White House; nor will he invite hard-core communists into Oval Office so as to formulate American policy. Mitt will not abandon our Military. (One only has to read of the Russian Military; to see the full - and bitter - fruit of a socialist/communist controlled Military.) We have only witnessed the worst of 'hints' by way of Obama's dictates.

Only by was of Republican Leadership; will we have the chance/opportunity to restore our Government to the Conservative values our Country was founded on - so defined by our Constitution. Our insuring more Conservative Leadership; will follow. All efforts to this end; will be 'dead-ended' with Obama in America's White House. His intentions for our Constitution; have been made clear. He is shredding it; in our faces and as 'we speak'.

Obama offered recently; by way of his typically, false humility; that this will be his "last election". He never said, of course; where he thought he was going afterward. What might this subversive, power-addicted, mega-narcissist have in mind?

No 'contemplation' here; to outrageous to consider per the 'fiction' Obama scripts; in his own world and by way of 'power usurped'; he imposes in ours.

Bottom line; a vote against Mitt; is a vote that will seal America's fate. IMHO. . .but there should be no doubt; as to what lies ahead; and 'beneath' a second Obama term.

[It is insulting to social conservatives and will in fact cause people to stay away from the voting booths.],p. Because Obama's reelection will surely help advance their cause better.

I challenge anyone here to lay out a good case as to why the President (any president or candidate, not Romney or Obama, necessarily) should get involved in this CFA issue at all.

It's about representation.

In regards to marriage and the natural family, the CFA head represents most Americans. The normal people, with decent morals. The same morals Americans have always adhered to.

Obama and Romney do not.

But, if a candidate does represent those things, they should say so.

Like I'm doing right now.

America’s fate is already sealed.
It’s just a matter of who can manage the decline better.
A free-fall collapse or a managed collapse.

If we don’t excise the cancer in the WH, we won’t have America as we once knew her. Not voting for Mitt Romeny is the same as voting for the lying Kenyan usurper who squats in OUR White House.

100 % agree. No politician is pure, or meets all needs.

One thing for certain the current occupant puts most politicians to shame and we can’t afford 4 more years of him as it will be the end of the America my grandad, dad, and I fought for.

But we already know where Obama and Romney sit on homosexual marriage. Why make it front and center of a campaign? Obama will live and die based on his mishandling of the economy and a host of other national, Presidential issues, not whether he agrees with Dan Cathy.

Romney is making the Joe the Plumber mistake.

McCain did not want to use the message made by joe the plumber.

Romney (or his homosexuals on staff) do not want to make the homosexuals upset.

It is statching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Is there a normal / not normal check list for romney staffers?

All of you who say you’renot going to vote for Romney because he doesn’t perfectly toe the conservative line are fools! Total, utter fools!

I don't know anyone here who says that. JimRob doesn't. Diogenes doesn't. BlackElk doesn't. I don't.

I do not support Romney because he will purge the conservtaives from the Republican Party, and they will give us nothing but Romneys to vote for in saecula saeculorum.

It became a national issue the minute those big mouthed Democrat mayors publicly threatened to single out a private company for punishment because its CEO expressed an opinion they disagreed with. All should be treated equally under the law, and being sanctioned by the government for expressing traditional Christian beliefs would be in violation of anti-discrimination and civil rights laws. More importantly, this is a brazen attack on Christians by powerful politicians, and this attack must be denounced and vigorously opposed. We know that the Kenyan, who promised to side with the Muslims if they were attacked, will do nothing to help the Christians. Is it really unreasonable to ask Mittens to speak in favor of free speech and equal protection under the law?

newz - I’m not staying home...

This isn’t about how liberal we perceive Romney.... I’m voting for the person most likely to win against Obama.

This is about the destruction of the U.S. for generations. Kids nowadays not willing to take a risk because of the policies set out by this administration. People going bankrupt and losing hope. Terrible crimes and shootings because we are becoming a nation without morals.... look around.

Generally people don’t give a crap, and are tired.

I don’t know if Romney can be the leader I want, but I sure as hell know Obama is NOT.

“I do not vote for liberals, whether they have a D or R after their name.”

Then if you are not voting against Obama then you are voting for Obama..... simple.

Stated another way:
When they count the votes your vote will be not against Obama.... so..... that makes you....

The same goes for the folks who didn’t vote last time - ya’ll enjoy that ObamaCare.
