Sikh temple shooting suspect identified as Wade Michael Page; Motivation unclear
CBS News ^ | August 6, 2012

Posted on 08/06/2012 6:03:54 AM PDT by Zakeet

The suspect in a shooting that left six people dead at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee on Sunday has been identified as Wade Michael Page, who served in the U.S. Army for about six years.

According to sources in the U.S. Army, Page enlisted in April 1992 and given a less-than-honorable discharge in October 1998. He served at Fort Bliss, Texas, in the psychological operations unit in 1994, and was last stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, attached to the psychological operations unit. The details of his discharge were not immediately clear.

Wade was killed outside the temple in a shootout with police officers after the rampage that left terrified congregants hiding in closets and others texting friends outside for help.

Officials had previously described the suspect as a heavy-set, 40-year-old Caucasian with numerous tattoos.

Sources tell CBS News some unspecified evidence suggests race or ethnicity may have played a role in the violence, but no links to extremist groups have been confirmed.

Local police called the attack an act of domestic terrorism, but other sources tell CBS News correspondent Bob Orr it may be more accurate to refer to "an investigation into a possible hate crime."

Neither the local nor the federal sources provided further details or suggested a possible motive, including whether the suspect specifically targeted the Sikh temple.

LR - I am losing or have lost my last pinch of tolerance for crap.

If I get banned, so be it. At least no one knows where I live.

I hope!

That is an interesting distinction, but maybe you're applying old categories to new and different phenomena. The Zwickau cell which called itself the "National Socialist Underground" killed at least 10 people -- 9 (presumably Muslim) Turks (or Turkish-Germans) and 1 German policewoman.

If by "neo-Nazi" you mean the last remaining Nazis it could be that Jews are still the main target, but if you mean younger people who've gone in for racial extremism, that may not be the case any more. Just as Nazism was something different from governments and political movements that came before it, successor movements in that line aren't going to hold exactly and without variations to the ideas of the 1930s and 1940s.

And while some Muslims and some neo-Nazis or post-Nazi racial extremists may consider that they share a common enemy, murders in Germany and talk about "mud people" over here indicate that there isn't "100% support" either way. For the record, I don't think the killer thought he was attacking Muslims, though. I don't think he was thinking clearly at all.

I am impressed as to how you two responded to my apology.

What graciousness, what magnanimity!

Thx so much...with Godly people in the world like you...what problems can there possibly be?

Ahem...

You made a number of nasty comments. I called you on your rudeness.

You apologized - that’s good.

I’ve been busy with slow internet problems, couldn’t even refresh this thread for a long time. I’m in and out, did not have time to respond.

You seem to have a very, very short fuse or something. Just because I didn’t respond instantly now you are digging your hole of nasty even deeper. I’ve said stuff on FR I was sorry about and have apologized many times, so I know what it’s like to lose temper or hit “post” and immediately after think “Oh no, I shouldn’t have said that”.

But to get nasty just because the people or person you apologtized to didn’t respond in the amount of time you think they should have, does not look well for good character.

I don’t hold it against you - but as they say, “Handsome is as handsome does”. Live and learn is important, especially the learning part.

I didn’t respond to you because I told the mods that I wouldn’t in order not to incite you any longer after I had reported you when you crossed the line by quite a bit in re: to the comment about needing professional help. [I know that’s a crappy run-on sentence, but I’m not in the mood to fix it right now.]
I hadn’t seen that post yet when I made the ROFLMAO comment.
So, there’s that...

I appreciated the original apology.

As for the next comment regarding my graciousness and magnanimity, and implying that I’m not a “Godly person” due to not replying, well — there you go again.

You have no clue as to how many pings I get on my page daily, how many lists I’m on, what I do with my time during the day, etc... Sometimes posts get lost in pages depending on the news of the day, and sometimes (believe it or not) I’m just too busy to get online at all!

So, my advice to you is to just stop now. I have nothing else to contribute that’s positive to this conversation with you, RR.

Some pepole are just primed to take (and give) offense.

Life lived that way is painful.

I am concerned about this killing, it is too strange.

I’m sorry, but I have to ask - are you seriously saying that Sikhs are supporting insurrection in Saudi Arabia?

Sounded like that. My bad.

I wasn't clear what I meant by 'rebels' and the term is mis-used in the MSM so often it is almost meaningless.

It would seem the Arabs are supporting insurrection (and invasion) of the Sikhs in Punjab. Hence the 'boat ride away' comment.

I assure you that any other misattribution that I make is likely due to my own ignorance. Any help is always appreciated.

But then I don't believe the CIA is secretly controlling the world.

CIA is just a label. As far as 'controlling' the world, no one does that. But... arranging specific events? Yes. Is this one ? We'll never know.

Mostly because I don't think they are competent enough to do so.

It doesn't mean they aren't trying, just that they are doing a bad job.

What NOOBS have not learned to consider is that TIMING is very important.

Just because you posted an apology doesn’t mean that there haven’t been dozens of posts made WHILE you were still typing.

I see this happen all the time, and patience becomes a very valuable virtue.

Judging by a number of freepers, it’s pretty important to them.

More important than starting the actual trial ?

I have lurked for a very long time...and I know that most folks just don’t apologize.

Perhaps then you could explain why the trial should be postponed because he won’t shave. I , for one, don’t get it.

Seems like others at least tried to ‘apologize’ after your ‘apology’. It was just the timing that messed things up.

Remember, you ‘fired’ first. Your apology came when their missiles had already been launched and were on their way.

Don’t blame others for that.

BTW, Welcome to FR.
