The nanny state is going after moms.
Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.
Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
Under the city Health Departments voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the citys 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.
While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.

I used to tout the LaLeche League propaganda about how breast milk is soooooo much better than formula. However my granddaughter has basically been on powdered formula almost from day 1 and for the last 10 months and has not caught a cold or the flu or any other communicable disease and has never had an upset stomach and is the happiest, healthiest and most well adjusted 10 month old I have ever had the pleasure to have known.
Just more hippie propaganda. Breast milk is fine. But so is formula. The main thing a kid needs is love.
Bloomberg is doing this so the Progressives can measure just how much the people will take. They will take his success or lack of it into account in formulating their continuing takeover of this once free Republic. He’s connected right to the top globalists and that doesn’t mean Obama. It should be evident by now that Obama is just a meat puppet and doesn’t control anything.
The sad thing is that he actually thinks that he has a career in National Republican politics after his term ends. I bet he runs for governor next, and then Senator. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to his crashing and burning.
As an RN with 14 years in NICU, some time in L&D and post partum, this is just insane and I can’t believe the hospitals went along with him, but then those at the top of the administration are usually completely out of touch. The majority of moms have decided long before delivery if they’re going to breast feed. Swag bags give a couple small bottles of milk, which is frankly a good idea after mom goes home and collapses about the 3rd day and needs a break. I breast fed 3 kids, attended Le Leche League, and studied to be a lactation consultant, so I’m all for breast feeding, but Bloomberg is absolutely clueless.
I am currently pregnant with my 3rd and have learned a lot since my first. I remember with my 1st being so insane about having to breast feed, not realizing that your breast milk does necessarily come in the moment you have a baby. It took me 10 days for my breast milk to come in. On day 3 it was a nurse that convinced me that my daughter was starving and that was why she had such a high fever and convinced me to supplement until my bm came in. I cried the whole time thinking she would never bf now, ( that’s what the bf nazis call nipple confusion) but she never had a problem breast feeding when the milk came in. With my second, I supplemented right away and of course had to listen all the lectures that my son would never take to bf now. It was never a problem.
The man is nuts.
He is a male. WTF does he know about it?
“Hey New York, How do you like being totally controlled by a MARXIST?”
Remember, Bloomberg wasn’t the democrat running for mayor.
The cretins in NYC who elected him King three times in a row are getting exactly what they deserve.
“He is a male. WTF does he know about it?”
Trust me, there are plenty of crunchy granola ladies who would do the same thing.
I know he isn’t a democRat. It doesn’t matter if it’s the left or the right putting the boot on your neck. The results are the same.
A medical reason for every bottle? The patient needs nutrition! The mother who was in labor for 14 hours needs sleep, so one bottle gave her an extra two hours of sleep.
I breast fed my kids the first few months, and even I think this is insanely stupid.
Bloomberg is proof that rich capitalists can still be fascists. Or that fascism is independent of wealth. Or he’s proof that the old life and let live / Confucius versus the aristocrats / bureaucrats fight never rests, not even in a city that regulates food serving sizes.
So Mommy Mikie believes women should be able to control their uteruses (i.e., abortion), but not their breasts.
Yeah, like this is any of Loonburg’s business.
Most of NYC is already on the govt. tit anyway.
What is wrong with this man? Are there not more pressing issues in NYC than salt, transfats and baby formula v. breast milk?
This man has obviously never fed a newborn. I’ve had two children and breast fed them both—but there are always worries, especially for new mothers, about latching on, adequate weight gain. This guy is a real ... piece of work, and let’s leave it at that.
I don’t like intolerant positions. Mothers can do both. I gave both my babies breast milk and formula, because I wanted all the health benefits of breast milk, but I couldn’t seem to produce enough to make sure they gained enough weight.
His position is similar to what we have here in Quebec—all of the cigarette cartons are now hidden behind unmarked cabinet doors, as if anyone who isn’t smoking now doesn’t know what brand to ask for, and those who don’t would somehow be tempted to take up the habit if they *shudder* saw an actual cigarette carton!
Gosh, I probably shouldn’t give him any ideas....
Another thread on Bloom Batsh!t Crazy’s latest initiative (if he’s really behind it).
Nanny State PING!
I completely agree. Please see my post 57.
As other women here have posted, we all do our best, but the baby’s health comes first. I couldn’t produce enough milk. I pumped, I nursed until I was raw, but my son was still hungry.
And yeah, I agree—I heard from those that said that if he ever took a bottle nipple, he’d never BF again. Not true, not at all. He was happy to breastfeed, and those were the most precious, sweetest moments. With the formula, it was the same wonderful connection, sitting in our rocking chair, and I knew he was gaining weight and healthy.
I know other women have said the same thing and I’m sorry I couldn’t reply the same thing to all of you; I hope you all see this because we seem to have shared similar experiences.
Men should butt out of this-especially Bloomberg. Haven’t you men heard that the most dangerous place in the world is between a mama bear and her cub? Most mothers place their child’s health and safety above all else.
p.s., I actually was between a mama bear and a cub in the Quebec wilderness, twice, and it scared the you-know-what out of me! :)
I think Bloomturd wants to test this out. Women beware. Mr. Viagra is on the loose.
