The nanny state is going after moms.
Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.
Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
Under the city Health Departments voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the citys 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.
While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.

No, I don’t think he’s going to run for a 4th term. He’d have to go back to the City Council to get the law re-written — again.
Why should that deter him? He had them do it once, he’ll just order them to do it again.
Well, we’ll find out soon who is the better prognosticator.
I agree totally that breastfeeding is best. Better for the baby and mother in both the short and long term. Formula should have never been so commonly used. Only emergencies.
I think it facilitated the demise of the family unit. Baby could be watched by anyone while feminist mom could go out and be a modern woman, smoke virginia slims, shop unencumbered, etc.
As a nurse who works in Peds.I am sick of these fanatics who advocate BF ,to the point in some cases, where you have stressed ,neurotic mothers, who feel they have failed .
BF is not for everyone. It is a choice you dumb ass mayor.
I remember my mom making her own formula for my sister.BF was the preferred choice ,but mom also used a supplement.
Carnation milk, karo syrup, fish oil and vitamins.
Doesn’t he think they might have already come to some decision about this well before they give birth? Good grief, Charlie Brown.
If the conservatives left (if there are any) and were to get together and take over a neighbor city and turned that community loose (meaning little regulations etc) how long does anyone think it would take for that giant sucking sound to really be heard coming out of NYC? I guess its bad now, but how long would it take to suck every last bit of life out of NYC? Months? Years?

Yes!! I had twins and I was an older mom, and my body decided that making milk was really more than it could handle, thank you. I TRIED until I was blue in the face, and every supposed “lactation expert” on the staff came in to “help.” Hah. I already felt completely inadequate because my body just wouldn’t make enough milk. If I’d had to freakin’ DOCUMENT my reasons for wanting formula for our babies, that would have been the last straw! (Our boys are five now, and extremely healthy — even though they drank mostly formula. Oh, the horror.)
NYC, are you really going to lie down and take this? Really?
Maybe Bloomberg could create a new Bureau of Wet Nurses, you know, government employees whose job is to feed the newborns. Then citizens could begin life actually on the government teat.
Oh great more crack babies. Some of those women you don’t want to breast feed.
THANK YOU!! As a mother who was ridiculed by “lactation consultants” after a c-section and very difficult birth, about my inability to “do it” successfully. I was STONED from the pain killer they gave me against my wishes and throwing up from the anesthesia when they had me feed him the first time. My son would not latch and we were all miserable for two days. I tried to pump later once the milk came in - no go. I went to the store, got the formula and my son for the first time FED on something other than drips and dribbles and you could feel the calmness that came over our household. Screw Bloomberg and anyone else who thinks they know better.
Because niether of my kids would latch I ended up pumping the first 18 months of each of their lives. Formula, which has about as much sucrose as coca cola, is a nutritional disaster that also leaves babies without sufficient gut flora. That stated, I don’t give a rat’s behind what other moms feed their kids. What pisses me off are the baby mamas that my school must supply a pumping room to so that they can sell their formula vouchers for cash. Since it’s my money and they chose to use government assistance, baby mamas should have to nurse and also receive no formula vouchers. Rant off!
Same article posted a little earlier - lots of good replies : )

If the mayor of New Yawk City doesn’t have anything better to do than stick his nose in other people’s business, it would appear that New Yawk City doesn’t really need a mayor.
We told them it wouldn’t stop with smoking.
This man has definintely jumped the shark. He must be put out to pasture.
Absolutely - and we were laughed at by all of the FReepers (so called conservatives) that supported Bloomberg's war on smokers and small businesses.
Do you think he is going to NOT run for a 4th term? Prior to his managing to get the citys 2 term limit for mayor changed to let him and his control freak ego run for a 3rd term. Do you think his ego and power hungryness will let him step aside? And the sheeple there will follow orders and re-elect him.

In Albuquerque, NM our jerk of a mayor SUED the city to get the 2-term law changed so he could run for a 3rd term. Imagine making the city spend all that money just for 1 person’s ego!
Funny thing is, when he ran for his 3rd term he was defeated!
First he bans large sized soft drinks. Now he puts the clamps on baby formula. Isn’t a mayor supposed to solve the big problems in a city; tackle the difficult issues; protect the citizens from the spread of crime? You know, the things that take brains and make a city secure and profitable? Goodness, he must be working really hard making decisions about soda and baby bottles. What is he doing that he has so much time to devote to such pathetically insignificant mandates? Is this what New Yorkers are paying him for?
Those New Yorker City Democrats who voted for this person three times in a row are just fine with his lunacy. I refuse to go to New York City even though my family has a residence on the 8th floor of the Trump Towers at Columbus Circle.
