This is exactly the reason I found numerous articles were posted on how to watch the live stream form the BBC, and why I don't watch NBC for news or anything important.

NBC always screws up the Olympics. Why do they keep getting it?

not only did they delay the broadcast, they treated the entrance of the athletes as if it were live with interruptions for commercials instead of simply stopping the tape and restarting it after the commercial.

I don’t know why but I’ve never seen them since I left home 33 years ago. Growing up I remember them on in the house but have never seen any of it since.

they require context

Yeah. Incessant commentary from Viera and Lauer between massive numbers of commercial breaks.

I don’t get it. If the opening ceremony could be meaningfully viewed by a person sitting in a seat in the stands, why couldn’t NBC provide a meaningful live production? I guess they felt like there was just too much going on and too many editorial judgements to make on the fly, like which camera angle to use and that sort of thing. But the ceremy was surely so scripted that all could have been mapped out in advance. So I don’t know...there must be more to the story.

I’m wound up about NBC’s Olympic handling right now. I don’t have cable TV, but I do use Time Warner for Internet; we watch TV with a Roku hooked to a 28” LCD monitor, which works perfectly for streaming Netflix and the like. But if you want to watch the live streaming Olympic coverage at nbcolympics.com, you MUST apparently have service with certain cable TV providers and you MUST apparently have a level of service that already provides you CNBC and MSNBC. If you don’t, you can’t watch the Olympics online.

To me, this is insanity. I would gladly pony up a pay-per-view fee for Olympic streaming coverage, on the Roku or on my computer, so my little girl can watch some of the events. She’d probably love gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics and she loves watching basketball. But because I don’t want to pay for the “privilege” of supporting Jim Cramer and Rachel Maddow, NBC makes it impossible for me to watch the Olympics *at all* via the Internet except if I find a pirated stream. It’s an insane and stupid business model.

“complex entertainment spectacles that do not translate well online because they require context, which our award-winning production team will provide”

All of us ignorant hillbillies are too stupid to understand such a “complex” live production. It takes their city world traveled “experts” to explain it to us, /S

That just proves they have no clue who lives in the rest of the country outside the studios of NBC. Not everyone is an ignorant yahoo like they think.

To hear them explain it none of us have been outside of our “trailer park” for most of our lives. They might be shocked to find out differently.

I saw the Queen parachuting, that was cool. Surprise that she agreed to do it, but then, if Bush Sr could do it, why not Her majesty.

Missed Macca singing (what else?!) the immortal endlessly tortured Fat Elvis hit Hey Jude.

First, there was a poll out questioning whether the US FLAG should be 'dipped' at the opening ceremonies, and now NBC found reason to leave the OPENING CEREMONIES out of their coverage.

I guess the polls were negative.

I usually skip watching the Olympics, purely because NBCs coverage is SO FREAKING BAD. FOr the most part, watching the Olypmics on NBC means watching pawder-puff personal stories of heroism and painfully bland interviews of athlets interspersed with brief views of competition.

Surprisingly, I found a lot of stuff today on other NBC affiliated channels.

I’m getting really pissed off with msnbc’s spate of “Lean Forward” ads during the Olympics ... saw 3 back-to-back this afternoon (Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow). “Forward” .... sound familiar?

NBC explained in 2000 that it made this decision in order to attract women viewers. Women needed character building as part of the telecast and it was unfair that sports events were geared towards male viewers. So NBC came up with a package that the whole family could enjoy together. Hence no live telecasts.

I am not making this up. This is what they said in 2000.

NBC and its context ruined the Olympics for me many years ago.

I can proudly say that I haven’t watched an Olympics, or paid any attention to one, since 1964. The two ‘brothers’, with their faux protest at Mexico City, killed any interest for me after 1968.

That’s about the last time I watched an Academy Awards, come to think of it.

Why pay attention to the culturally dysfunctional among us?

They may be very attractive and wealthy but they are also terribly flawed in the character department.

Good on NBC. I wish I had some that real good book learnin’, then I’d be able to cipher out what I was seein in them big ceremonies and such. But I’m grapefruit for having them city slickers outta that New York city travel yonder to England and suss it out for me.

"It was never our intent to live stream the Opening Ceremony or Closing Ceremony.

Which is, of course, the problem in a nutshell. They screwed up from the start.

We sat through the entire introductory “program,” and it was simply...incoherent.

NBC wants viewers to know: The kickoff of the London Olympics was just too complicated to watch live

translation: you're too stupid to know what you like
