Quit Whining Cameron, Romney Ran An Olympics
RiehlWorldView.com ^ | 7/27/2012 | Dan Riehl

This silliness has mostly been fun for me, as I suspect, unlike the media, the average American voter couldn't care less about it; however, it does have an element of Obama and the left's ongoing war against success in it.

Some are forgetting that, not only does Romney speak with experience and success when it comes to running an Olympics, it was far from America's best moment when it risked botching an Olympics of its own back in 2002.

They can like it, or not, Mitt Romney is largely credited with hauling those, and Salt Lake's ashes out of the fire, suggesting he's competent and capable. What I see is a seasoned executive speaking with some authority gained from significant experience versus a bunch of preening children not appreciating being smacked in the face with a bit of reality.

Cameron looks like a petulant brat here, instead of focusing on what's important, he's self-absorbed as his and Britain's wobbly egos seem to have been bruised. Oh well, life happens - which is basically what Romney was conveying in his remarks - that, and it's wise to be prepared for it.

All things considered, as I think and hope Americans will prefer the adult in the room in November - that's Romney - as opposed to four more years of an ostriched plumed politician like Obama (and Cameron is increasingly looking like one, too for the little that's worth to American voters), I'm tempted to go back to bed so I can continue to not lose sleep over a less newsworthy story than that annoying Queen's Jubilee we recently had to endure thanks to America's silly, elitist media.

This pompous non-circumstance is already getting decidedly old.

Mitt Romney handed Barack Obama a potential gift for the US presidential election campaign when the presumptive Republican nominee blundered on his first diplomatic outing by questioning whether London was capable of staging a successful Olympic Games.

In a move that astonished Downing Street, hours before it laid on a special reception for Romney at No 10, he told NBC there were "disconcerting" signs about the preparations for the Games. One senior Whitehall source said: "What a total shocker. We are speechless."

David Cameron wasted no time in rebuking Romney hours after his remarks were broadcast. On a visit to the Olympic Park, the prime minister said: "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere."

Be as glib as you'd like. Were it not for the US, you'd be typing "gähnen" or possibly "зевать" instead....if you were allowed to say anything at all.

“And London hosted an Olympics when the country was still ravaged by six years of war, the country was near-broke, and the British people still had rationing.

Whats your point?.”

The point is that has zero to do with what I said, or the issue Romney had brought up regarding security at the games.

The UK?.

Is that the actual whole UK, or the bit of London you travelled through on a tourist bus trip the last time you were here?.

Do you think Romney pointed out anything the Brits didn’t already know?

ALERT !!!

The Opening Ceremonies are TONIGHT, July 27....9 PM London time, 4 PM U.S. Eastern time, tape on NBC at 7 PM Eastern time.

I hope someone starts a live thread later on today.

Theme of the Ceremony is "Isles of Light". There will be a cast of 15,000 Brits participating in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Who will be the person who actually lights the Olympic flame inside the stadium? History indicates it's likely to be a British athletic or cultural icon....who will perform the deed in some spectacular or unusual manner.

At least the Brits were able to stop the Israelis from having their moment of silence and offending the Mooselips. Yeah, were impressed.

Pray for America

As someone already pointed out, the 2002 Olympics were winter games. By necessity and due to the sports involved, they're in more open, remote locations.

If anything, that negates his criticism. The infrastructure exists in a large city for operations on that scale. The logistics are a bit more of a challenge "in the middle of nowhere."

I hope it's Daley Thompson...of course he probably won't be because of this shirt he wore in LA in 1984. (He was alluding here to Carl Lewis)

Sir Steve Redgrave, Daley Thompson, or Roger Bannister.

“Do you think Romney pointed out anything the Brits didn’t already know?”

If you are in London you had better hope that is the case.

"When you are a guest, show respect to your host and keep your mouth shut.

Ah, but if the guest makes a supposed faux pas, then it's okay for the host to make condescending remarks about the guest's home. I see, I see...

As a proud Scot/Brit, and as a qualified historian, whose passion is WW1 and WW2, I am NEVER glib when people insult my country and its immense and incredible bravery, sacrifice and contribution to two world wars, stopping the evil of Nazism and Fascism, and opposing Communism by force (Korean War, Malaya). And insult the millions of British men and women who fought and died from 1914-18 and 1939-45. As well as 1950-54.

If you truly think America ‘saved’ Britain, it is YOUR history knowledge that is laughable. Not mine.

Lewis was a fantastic athlete, but he always seemed a bit prissy. Besides, Daley was and is a joker, so the t-shirt shouldnt be seen too seriously.

I’ll make the case that the Polish Pilots during the Battle of Britain actually did more to save Britain....When America entered the war, Britain was “saved”, although together we helped defeat Nazi Germany, but by 1941 the threat of German invasion was pretty much gone, as the Germans got bogged down in Russia.
