The shooting could have been limited if someone else in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater had been carrying a gun, Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert said today.
Gohmert reacted to the shooting, which left 12 dead, during an interview this morning on the radio program Ernest Istook Live! From The Heritage Foundation.
"Well it does make me wonder, you know with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying that could've stopped this guy more quickly?" Gohmert said. "I mean in Tyler, Texas, we had-my hometown-we had a shooter come in over a domestic matter, and just start shooting people. And it was a guy with a concealed carry-he got killed, but his shooting at this guy caused him to run and no doubt saved a lot of lives. He was a real hero."
Colorado allows residents to obtain concealed carry permits, according to the Colorado State Patrol website.
"I know that before we ever had concealed carry in Texas, there was a, just a senseless shooting years ago in Killeen, Texas, in a restaurant, and, you know, if we had had concealed carry permits at the time, there was a woman who had to leave her gun in her car, and if we'd had concealed carry the guy would've been stopped before he could've killed so many people," Gohmert said.

“Hollywood is the problem.”
AND these Hollywood executives know they are, too. They were in meetings yesterday with their heads together in some discussions of apparent conscience. - They used up Heath Ledger (the Joker) like they use anyone available for merchandise.
Having the weapon to fight doesn’t mean you have the will to fight lets use the internet cafe in Fla as an example. Two men come in with weapons to rob the patrons, one patron starts shooting and they start running never firing a shot. Whether to flee or whether to fight! You have to be in that situation before you’ll ever know.
Then maybe it’s time for survivors to start suing these places. If you won’t allow me to protect myself, then my safety is YOUR responsibility. YOUR policy placed my life at risk. Something along those lines... maybe it will at least get owners to think about their policy.
Personally, I don’t go places where I can’t carry, school and courthouse excluded.
If you would be willing to put on a kevlar helmet, bullet proof vest and ballistic leggings and stand there while somebody blazed away at you, I'll let you stand by your opinion that it, "wouldn't have done much good."
Otherwise, I'm going to contend that even one shot in his direction would have, at a minimum, interrupted and distracted him. Several rounds on target, even if they didn't penetrate the kevlar, would have been like landing a couple of blows with a baseball bat.
Depends on your view of "Duty".
"Duty is a debt you owe to yourself to fulfill obligations you have assumed voluntarily." (Robert A. Heinlen)
Some of us would have felt a duty "to shoot the man", some would not.
A miss would have got his attention, the wiz-crack would have taken his attention away from the slaughter.
When you make your donation let him know that our court system needs to send guys like this a message. When guilt is so patently obvious, give him an immediate trial, and then execute him - quickly as possibly.
The death penalty has no deterrent effect when it takes ten years or more to have final justice. By then the crime is no longer even remembered except by the victims.
I put a lot of blame on the court system for these recurring shootings - mass or otherwise on the streets. If justice is swift, it deters.
It may not stop every mentally disturbed guy, but something has to be done - especially when it is obvious for all to see who was the perpetrator. I can’t believe we have to say ‘alleged’ about this Holmes guy or the Hasan guy in the Fort Hood shootings.
I don’t even excuse mental disorders, and drunk drivers who kill should be sent to prison too. Death row should still be an option for these killers.
“Chances are, though, it would have made him duck, regardless.”
Protective equipment serves to make taking a shot less lethal, it does not keep rounds from knocking you to your ass and taking your breath away. You take 4 or 5 rounds from a 45 into your ‘protected’ chest, you’ve knocked all momentum out of whatever the perp was intending.
This SRM 1216 12 ga semi auto is fairly new to the market.
Throws a lot of lead down range very quickly.

He just had a vest, not body armor. A 9mm or higher to the chest will stop him long enough to fire additional head shots. If nothing else, a firing opponent would have slowed him down and allowed potential victims to escape.
Goehmert is 100% correct, but ABC News is trying to attack him because the White House ordered them to do so, because he dared to ask questions about Huma Abedin last week.
Your actions would be dictated by your location in relation to the shooter. That said, I have a Lasermax attached to my .380. I doubt I would turned it on in this situation. If you did, you would be giving up your biggest advantage for stopping the shooter, concealment.
If there was a distance, with only 7 .380 rounds, I'd expend one as quickly and as safely as possible at the shooter, to let him know that their was someone else in the theater with a weapon and gunning for him. If that didn't cause him pause and to run, I would still have the advantage of him not knowing my exact location and better able to try and take him down with the remaining six rounds. The longer he is distracted and trying to locate you, the more folks able to get out and better chance you have of help arriving.
If close, I'd commit to a surprise attack.
I believe the guy had on a lot of protective gear, tear gas and automatic weapons. No matter what protective gear that "cowardly-monster-James Holmes" hid within, it was
Cinemark theatre's CCW ban which resulted in it's patrons ultimate victimhood.
Another CCW patron present in that theatre would have given the targets of this "cowardly-monster-James Holmes" a fighting chance.
There's no need for personal insults. :O)
(MONITOR!! MONITOR!!)
I appreciate your comments-especially about the death penalty. That is something the needs to be brought back along with quick sentencing and executions.
Thanks for the correction and information. I heard "automatic" weapons last night as the info was coming in.
Still, unless he’s downstage from you and visible, you have lots of innocent people upstage, in the path of fire. And the way big theaters are sloped for viewing, lots of people would probably be in your line of sight, so no shooting allowed.
“OK, so I guy walks into the theater carrying a gas mask, a Remington 870, an AR-15 and a sidearm and wearing protective gear.
How is it possible that nobody noticed this?
If he was carrying the stuff in a bag, it had to be a BIG bag.
So why didnt anybody ask, Hey, pal, whats in the bag?”
Because he didn’t have all the stuff with him when he purchased the ticket. He went out the exit door, propped it open, to return with everything he used.
The violence itself is not the problem since its a symptom of the real cause. The continuing quest by the left to remove all values and morals (the Judeo-Christian kind) from the public mind, see education, media including Hollywood but not limited, dependence on government for a handout since you don’t have to be responsible for yourself, the political class and its abhorrent behavior and corruption, and profound weakening in the belief in God. Of course those who do have morals in line with what is truly good and proper have also been affect since they have also been partially paralyzed with fear, and/or being shunned from the mainstream of society because of what I mentioned above which serves to enhance the damage as time goes on. The damage is slow and almost imperceptible at first over a generation or two, then it starts to pick up steam like it did in the 60’s and now we have a full fledged epidemic where the sick can no longer be ignored or covered up from the publics’ eyes and this has been going on for a while now.
