**Exclusive**
Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.
And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!
The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.
Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

Even if Rice wasn’t a RINO, she would be a huge mistake. She cannot help carry any swing state. It’s not as though there would be any kind of significant shift of black female voters into the Republican camp. This would be setting up the Republicans to, once again, be “big tent” losers.
“Continuously, lowering the bar of expectations on what to expect from all of our politicians only helps them to continue to get, even, worse.”
But to wholly reject any shift to the right because it is perceived that it doesn’t go far enough, is folly at best.
Condo is a warmed-over Colon Bowel.
Nice person but she has a stupid name.
Not all that smart. Another Afirmative Action type.
Well, I don't know about that...she's a concert pianist. That doesn't just happen automatically.
But she is an elitist who can't relate to the common American and she's not all that conservative.
(She's a murderit baby-killer)
Come on.... Condi is very smart - I don’t she’s right for the job as a VP but I’m not calling her “another affirmative action type”.
I can't help but wonder what would have happened if we had a Conservative nominee in 2008. Would a Conservative nominee have raced back to Washington and pushed for a Government bailout?
Keep in mind Democrats controlled both the Senate and the House in 2008, yet the McCain campaign failed in attaching any of the blame of the “economic collapse” on the Democrat Party. In thinking about it, I don't recall him even trying. Instead, the Obama campaign positioned their candidate as the “change” candidate, successfully blaming McCain for the meltdown.
The question as to whether McCain would have beaten Obama had the events of September, 2008 not occurred will never be known for sure. But, I submit to you that a strong, Conservative candidate would have overcome the situation and could have still prevailed.
The only tangible fact from 2008 is that yet another “Moderate” Republican nominee failed to win the Presidency. Will Gov. Romney be the first (in my lifetime)?
It wasn’t such a big “Duh” if it took 250 posts for anyone to mention that as a reason to put Condi on the ticket, because if I were Mittens that’s the only reason to put her on the ticket.
“Condi was a good secretary of state”
Yes. And when it comes to politics, she’s a one-trick pony and would be bad in any other position. She’d be wretched on the ticket as VP. One RINO is bad enought, but most of us couldn’t deal with two of ‘em.
And, really... do we want a VP who voted for Hussein in ‘08? Do we want a VP who’s pro abortion, pro gay marriage, and anti Israel? Do we want a VP whose close connection to “da Bushes” will be dredged up 1,000 times a day?
“Condi is pro choice.”
She’s actually pro ABORTION. Using liberal euphemisms to “tone it down” is something we need to avoid. Ditto for “gay” instead of “homosexual”.
“Tell Romney Condi is a terrible choice...”
I wonder if Romney’s staff reads these threads on FreeRepublic, etc.
“Theyll call her an Uncle Tom token black”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
That won’t work, they will have to call her Aunt Tomasina.
I can think of reasons to say she is a bad choice but I have a hard time thinking of reasons to say she is a good choice.
First off I still say the majority of the women of America do not want a woman at the helm and VP is one step away from the top.
Secondly she is NOT a conservative in my estimation.
Thirdly, she is too much of an academic and in that category no matter how smart she is she is not in the same league with Thomas Sowell in the smarts department.
Fourth, I Think if Romney wants a non-white Allen West would be much more impressive. I would love to see West eat Joe Biden for breakfast. Of course Romney will never consider West.
Fifth, Condi herself was just seen on TV saying there is no way she is going to be VP, “I know my strengths.” That is just another way of saying she knows her weaknesses and does not consider herself up to the job which can change from VP to POTUS in a flash.
There has to be many more to choose from than an, anti-life, Obama-voting, Israel-hating, RINO...,right? C’mon! Was this just a “test balloon?”
Yes, Ma’am; you are correct.
We’re so screwed, anyhow. Romney’s campaign is weak and reactive. Unless/until he gets some outspoken, PRO-active, attack sharks out there to decimate the opposition, and hit Obama hard every single day with the truth, there is no hope. It won’t matter who shares the ticket with him.
