**Exclusive**
Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.
And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!
The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.
Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

Rice is absolutely pro-abortion.

I dont see this as changing any votes among the conservative community. If you were an ABO person before, I cant see you not being one because of Condi. If your part of the FUMR crowd, I dont see you changing that position because of Condi.
Truthfully, I dont think ANY VP would make a difference to the two camps. Probably a few on the fence that might not vote for Romney if he picked a very liberal VP such as Lincoln Chaffee, Olympia Snowe, Leon Trotsky, etc...and vice versa, some might vote for him if he were to pick Allen West, Sarah Palin, Zombie Reagan, etc...but for the most part, if you are a conservative, you are where you are gonna be.
It's a good thing Drudge is just being used, because you couldn't be more wrong...
Most definitely.
Romney: I dont have a list at this stage. I havent put together a list. I havent done any thinking about a VP contender at this point. I would anticipate that whoever our nominee is would start with a very long list because frankly we have quite a group of people who have the skill and the credibility to be viable members of a national ticket. So he asked me about a couple of names but there are I dont have to tell you this theres a long list of very capable folks, including people whove run this cycle.
TWS: Would anyone on that list be pro-choice?
Romney: No.
In response to reports that the Romney campaign may be considering former Secretary Condoleezza Rice as a potential running mate, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said: Former Secretary Rices position on the sanctity of human life makes her an unqualified candidate for Governor Romney to choose as a running mate. Throughout the campaign, including at the Palmetto Freedom Forum last September, he has pledged to us in no uncertain terms that he would choose a pro-life running mate. We have taken Governor Romney at his word and therefore believe Secretary Rice will be ruled out of consideration. Secretary Rices position violates criteria that Governor Romney himself has laid out.
If every single element of conservatism has to be met before we will vote to save the country from Obamunism then we are screwed and don’t deserve to win another election anyways. I’m beginning to have doubts about this country as a whole anyways,,,
It looks like the Rice for VP talk is just talk.
” if you must go BLACK...go with West ..he is far more genuine
I am a hardcore culture war rightist..it is bad enough to have to stomach Romney.
I will not support a race and gender pick social liberal as VP”
Heck, I’ll BUMP that !
drudge = whore
let the Bush nightmare end once and for all PING PING PING PING!!!
Rice and first lady Laura Bush spoke for the administration at the Oct. 10 [2006] swearing-in at the State Department where Dybul was accompanied by his male partner, Jason Claire.
Rice, during her comments, referred to the presence of Claires mother and called her Dybuls mother-in-law.
Rice's approving 'gay' remarks rankle GOP base

Sure it is..... it was on Drudge and makes the media happy for something to fill airtime. The media will grab at anything to stop talking about obama's failures.
Condi identified herself pro-choice, or somewhat pro-choice, and leaning Libertarian on the issue.

Exactamundo. O’s people will be running clips of “But we don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud” until the cows come home. Stay away from that. Shrillary supported the Iraq War, and that’s why she’s stuck at Foggy Bottom while Zero is in the White House.
Again, your opinion of them doesn't matter.
Sarah Palin is the only reason McCain didn't lose by double digits, and he was pro-life. Romney claims to be pro-life now but has a pro-choice governing record. Without a pro-life, pro-conservative values running mate, Romney can't win.
Cater to the base or suffer the destruction of the country.
I prefer to cater to them. I want to see Obama defeated. If you don't care, nominate another RINO. Two RINOs on the GOP ticket will ensure Obama's reelection. It makes no difference what you think of the recalcitrants who stayed home.
“Cater to the base or suffer the destruction of the country.”
Vote for everyone down-ticket (who cumulatively can do much more to affect your cause than the president can) or kiss your cause good-bye. Or stay home and pout.
Ha, Sarah threw pro-lifers under the bus when she said she didn’t have any problems with Rice’s pro-death views. So much for sticking to one’s principles.
Why does everyone thinks Rice is so smart? Is it all the degrees? Those are easy enough to get these days, particularly if one gets the minority pass.
She was a terrible Secretary of State (not that any other recent ones have been prizes) and she seems to be a dull, empty suit.
Add to that the pro-abortion views, and she is a terrible choice.
