Drudge Report ^ | Thursday, July 12, 2012

**Exclusive**

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

I agree with you. We need a Hispanic VP...Hispanics need representation, they are here in large numbers and we need their vote. Condi will not draw black votes for Romney, or necessarily the female vote, black or white.

Romney needs to know we do not approve...he has a phone number available to reach him on his web site. Not to mention his Facebook page. Here's where we get busy contacting him...forget leaving messages with any of his other Contact Me sites...it's just auto reply back to you when you do...

I didn't flame you at all. But since you asked, if I have to choose between your opinion and the actual polling work that Rasmussen has done (and that I have provided as a cite -- where's your cite, btw?), how much can I bet on Rasmussen?

all good points, but i disagree with you that Obama destroyed McCain on foreign policy.

McCain did much better vs Obama on terrorism and natl security in 08 than Bush did vs Kerry in 04(+73 vs +60).

Obama did beat McCain on the Iraq War(although by a far smaller margin +20). but I’d say that was more anti-Bush than pro-Obama or anti-McCain.

In any event foriegn policy wasn’t a factor in 2008. It was all about the economy.

edit

looks li recalled the xit poll #s wrong.

Bush beat Kerry on terrorism 86-14. McCain beat Obama on terrorism 86-13. So McCain did a tad better.

McCain actually did better on the economy as well. Kerry beat Bush 80-18 on the economy. Obama only beat Mccain by 53-44.

The difference was that in 04 only 20% of voters said the economy was their main issue vs 41% for terrorism and moral values and in 08 63% said the economy was vs 9% for terrorism and moral values.

When you view “Moderate” Republican Presidential candidates from the past, you see a list of candidates who lost Presidential elections. While some could make an argument that “W” wasn't a Conservative, on the whole he was perceived as such. Then there's Ronald Reagan, a candidate who didn't run to the left and won two elections in landslides.

I disagree with you about the reasoning behind the 2008 election result. I have always felt the “economic collapse” was the excuse given (by the campaign) for the McCain loss, while the truth was he was a lousy candidate and was, at best, a Moderate.

In Romney, we have yet another Moderate in an election year where a Conservative would have trounced Obama. Can candidate Romney run to the left (including picking a Moderate/Liberal running mate) and win? Of course it's possible, but history says otherwise.

If Rice helps get rid of zero then it is a good choice. It would only suck for those speaking ill of Republicans at this stage.

If this is true, could it be because there is talk of the Obama Campaign possibly dumping Biden and putting Hillary in the VP slot?

RELAX EVERYBODY! THIS IS A BUNCH OF HYPE!! Can't believe Drudge fell into this trap. No one knows who Romney's pick is and he will not let this be turned into a political side-show: The following was written by Jonathan Tobin of "Commentary Magazine" just yesterday:

Those who believe Romney is going to make a decision based on the ephemeral political advantages to be gained are forgetting that the Republican is the ultimate numbers-cruncher and specialized in mining the data exhaustively to make the right choice in business. He is probably conducting the veep search in the same manner he has made every other important business and political decision in his life, which makes the notion of moving up the pick merely in order to give him a couple of positive news cycles laughable. This is a man who is obsessed with long rather than short-term gains.

“I strongly suspect your quite tolerant of it though.”

Then, you’d be WRONG...
I have a very personal history with it.

That said, I’m not dumb enough to cut off my nose, to spite my face, either.

you think the economy was the excuse???

with all due respect, huh?

In july 08 we lost 200k jobs. In August we lost 300k. In sep 430k. In Oct 08 in the month before the election we lost 500k jobs.

That’s around 1,000,000 lost jobs in the 2 months before the election. Look how much Obama is struggling when reports come out out of only adding around 100k jobs. Now imagine a report that said we lost 400k or 500k.

In sep and oct 08 the market had its worst collapse in history, it dropped 3000 pts in a week, had a 2 or 3 of the worst 10 days in its history.

the economy wasn’t an excuse in 2008. McCain was in great shape up until around Sep 15 when the economy collapsed. Would he have won if it hadn’t? We’ll never know. I think at the least things would have been much, much closer. If the economy in sep and oct stayed the same as it had been in july and aug I think McCain wins a narrow election a la W in 00 or 04.

And if it had even improved slightly those 2 months I think he wins rather comfortably.

no, McCain wasn’t the most conservative. but he was dealt a very bad hand. No Republican would have won given the economic collapse. Not Reagan, not anyone.

99% of the hispanic’s are illegal!!!! and can’t vote
______________________________________________________________

What is wrong with you girl? Any fourth grade child knows better than that? OR, are you just specifically talking about the 14 Hispanics living in the house next door to you? This kind of crap is why the GOP and Conservatives can never win over the Hispanics at Election time. Now, angelcindy..... lay....down....the....crack...pipe.

That said, I’m not dumb enough to cut off my nose, to spite my face, either.

Again, we have plenty of genuinely conservative, pro life candidates to pick from. To classify not choosing Rice as cutting off your nose to spite your face is absurd. Especially since Condi’s ok with cutting off the nose, eye's, arms, legs, etc. Sorry for using a severe quip, but man, attitudes like yours on a conservative site make me really wonder where we are. Certainly not a good place in God's eyes.
