Character is consistent. Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president. The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, hype, and the distorting effects of TV.
~snip~
An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney. It is 1996. Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston. One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught. His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days. One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.
Did Romney offer sympathy and hope? Write a check for a private detective? Wait for the government to solve it? No -- he took responsibility. He took action. He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York. For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they'd seen the missing girl. Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200. He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain's success stories, to put fliers in every shopper's bag in their 52 stores. Romney set up a hotline. A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.
~snip~
Romney shows the missing girl's photo to a teenage girl on the street. She says to him, "No, I haven't seen her, but you're not the first person who came up and asked if I'd seen her. I wish my parents cared enough about me, to do something like this for me."

I guess it only counts if he had looked for a Catholic girl!
________________________________________________
Well if you wanted it to count..
if might have meant a little more if instead of the 14 yo wild druggie daughter of HIS BUSINESS PARTNER who had been allowed to go to New York to a rave party by her father and had not come home for THREE DAYS...Who waits THREE DAYS before they worry about a 14 yo ???...who in their right mind lets a 14 yo got to NYC by themnselves ???
and if the girl had been the daughter of the janitor instead...
Would the daughter of the janitor have been searched for by Willard ???
BTW Willard didnt spend all that much on the search...
He owned the stores that helped...
He was a connected to the hotel that he used...
If not then he was later on the board...
But great for PR and his political resume...
Never let a crisis go to waste...
As usually your MDS and hate for everything Mormon is showing. It must be sad to live a world so filled with hate and bigotry. Yeesh!
Yeah, cause it’s his job to find everybody’s lost children.
Ever notice how it’s taking a really long time to do fund raisers these days?
I have given over $20,000 to this site over the years. Not one dime more until the stupid goes away.
You are the stupid.
I wouldnt know kid
Some of these people are simply insane.
I think Mitt's a douche and a leftist ... I currently plan NOT to vote for him.
I don't want in any way to be associated with these pathological mormonism haters. They're nuts, and their existence makes any opposition to Mitt look nutty by association.
Hmmmm ....
I wonder if maybe they're secret Mittbots, trying some sort of creepy reverse-psychology game?
It has been this way around here for months.
Can you give me the name and religion of any other employee’s or partner’s child who ever went missing that he didn’t go looking for? Of course not because it is not about the good he did to help a partner’s family it is all about your irrational hatred for everything Mormon. What a sad person you are so filled with hate.
Please just vote for O’Bama and salve your conscience.
So, having sat in mormon pews for years and heard the anti-Christian rhetoric from mormon leaders such as the following, both mormon leaders and members have proclaimed "Can any good thing come from a Christian?
*************************************
**********************************************
The mormons using hate speech (and in this case using the words of the Bible to do so) to bash us either are too young to have heard the hate speech against Christians 20-30 years ago, or choose to ignore it in order to fall in line with the "new improved PC mormonism that demands to be seen as Christian".
Have no doubt. These mormons are acting in concert to force Romney on the country to aid and abet mormonism, NOT to aid the USA.
Romney, and possibly many of these FR mormonism defenders have taken sworn this oath in a mormon temple:
You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the Law of Consecration as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.
I’m not voting for a pastor. My Baptist grandmother was sure all Catholics were hell bound even though her lifelong best friend was one. She feared John Kennedy not for his politics, but his religion.
I know many, many Mormons. They are people of good character.
The other option in November is a narcissistic atheist socialist who kisses Muslim rear.
If Mormonism is 'anti-Christian,' then how can it be considered 'Christian?'
For just a glimpse, see some of these things below:
Snapshot of Joseph Smiths Slanderous Invectives vs. Christian Sects |
Mormon Source[Note: Most of these are Mormon scriptures'. In fact, First three rows below are Lds 'scripture' & therefore cannot be rug-swept any more than a Jew might try to take three commandments off of the very tablets of stone Moses brought down from the mountain] |

...which of all the sects was right ALL their CREEDS were an ABOMINATION in his sight they teach for doctrines the commandments of MEN | Joseph Smith History vv. 18-19. Lds "scripture" Pearl of Great Price |
Mormon church the only Christ-sanctioned church on earth: the foundation of this [Mormon] church the ONLY true and living church on the face of the whole earth [Obvious scorched earth implication: All other churches are false and dead] | Lds scripture Doctrines & Covenants 1:30 |
Direct question asked of Joseph Smith: 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons?" Answer from Lds "prophet" Joseph Smith: 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." | Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119 [Not scripture but still publicly spoken by the Mormon living prophet and published by a later Mormon living prophet, Joseph Fielding Smith via a publisher owned by the Mormon church Deseret News Press, 1938] |
In 1952 the first official proselyting plan was sent to missionaries throughout the world It included seven missionary discussions that emphasized [four topics, one of them being] THE APOSTASY and Restoration [This makes it 60 years that Mormon church missionaries, now numbering 55,000, have formally emphasized in its training & door to door saturation a priority in bashing the worldwide Christian church as apostates (100% AWOL)] | Our Heritage: A Brief History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints p. 116, 1996 |
You drive people off the anti-Mormon threads hiding behind the "religion" skirts, then you go and spout your anti-Mormon bile on non-religion threads?
Nice double-standard you got there, Skippy.
The amazing thing is that FReepers demonstrate nearly 100% agreement with this description of Obama, yet we're at each others' throats over who to vote for.
Well, I've had this discussion many a time on various FR threads...where the Q is raised: Are we voting for a 'pastor-in-chief' or commander-in-chief?
There's a few operating Bible-based "principles" that undergird this Q...And it's essentially this:
Principle: This question addresses not only the role and identity of the POTUS, but the perceived 'self' identity of the candidate. If a given candidate thinks he's a 'god' or 'would-be' god, he exposes himself as deceived on one of the most basic elemental identity issues you can think of.
If a candidate doesn't even know who he is fundamentally, how do we know similar distortions won't effect his judgment? Besides, if he inwardly lauds himself as 'divine,' why would we want to reinforce such an idolater who steals glory from the One True God?
Then there's an associated principle to consider here: Is a POTUS a 'minister' of sorts?
Apparently, you might say 'no.'
I say 'yes,' and here's why:
Even non-religious people tend to at times honor the Bible. The Biblical record shows that true successful leadership in public office is done by those who fear the TRUE Lord -- not by some low-level Mormon god who is part of a great number of Mormon gods...
And these Biblical leaders did not -- or were not to -- worship false gods/idols. The Old Testament is replete w/ such examples. The Israelites had secular kings, not "pastors in chief." But that didn't mean that these kings' ministrations were any less a "ministry." Romans 13 makes it clear that public office is also a "ministry." Those who contend against this are openly militating against this Scripture.
It doesn't mean that public officeholders administrate in a parochial way; it just means that public office is a "ministry of service" like the soup kitchen down the street.
History (biblical & otherwise) shows that the more pagan or counterfeit god that a leader adheres to, the more trouble that leader's "exhaust" settles on the people-at-large. Kings & presidents need all the grace, mercy, & guidance possible, since God gets more credit for preserving & directing leaders than we care to give Him credit for. Therefore, one who worships a false god & has no true relationship w/the living God is stifling access to God's resources; & a nation may suffer for that.
Therefore, we must weigh a candidate's level of vulnerability to deception - for that transcends 'religious' considerations: If a candidate is gullible in the most important area of his life -- his faith this serves as an excellent indicator of potential other gullibilities.
Romney is among the 15-20% of Mormons who are temple Mormons -- those who believe they are ALREADY a "god-in-embryo" on his way up to full-grown godhood.
(Last time I looked idolatry wasn't sanctioned by THE God...Who doesn't seem -- in the Bible, anyway -- to have "put up" for very long rivals and competitors to Himself as THE God...Mormonism, by definition, is polytheistic...their "god" was once a man appointed as "god" by a "council of gods"...and Mormons believe they are "gods in embryo" who will either be "aborted" to become mere men ... or angels ... or "grow up fully" as full-grown gods running their own planets ... that hardly sounds like what you'd want your local Mormon Boy Scout leader teaching your sons and grandsons as "character" building lessons, does it?)
LOL. Thanks very much. I welcome any show of sanity here.
It’s rare any more.
I made a list also, not, as some claim to hurt Free Republic but to try to assure myself that the crazies who seem to have taken over here are a minority.
I do believe they are but with their incessant posting, jumping on every thread to corrupt it with hate and lies, they seem like a bigger number than they are.
I had on my list a little over 100 people, some of whom post a lot more than others.
So unless FR has only 200 members... well, do the math. FR has a large number of members, many of whom no longer post much ... they have told me so ... because the the hundred or so who are obsessed with Romney hate.
Romney hate so strong that they’re willing to accept 4 more years of Obama. They will try to deny this but they can’t.
So my list is meant to help FR. If the more compulsive posters could be cautioned by management to cool it a little, not to lie, not to insult people, not to engage in nasty personal attacks, things would improve greatly.
Just tryin’ to do a good deed for Free Republic, but, as they say, no good deed goes unpunished.
Thanks for hanging in here.
I don’t hang on the threads that the Bad People take over... it’s too demoralizing.
Men with character don't govern out of political expediency, flip flop on multiple issues and determine their position on life and death matters like abortion by the polls, which Romney did when he was running for and as governor.
That so many can stick their heads in the sand and pretend Romney is something he never has been and isn't is both sad and laughable. This why Republicans keep winning elections and the country keeps drifting to the left.
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, January 13, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney has been dogged by allegations that his shifting positions on abortion have been politically opportunistic. That perception will be bolstered by a new book that reveals Romney consulted polling data before deciding to campaign as pro-choice during his 1994 Senate race.
In the book Mitt Romney: An Inside Look at the Man and His Politics, Ronald Scott wrote that Romney commissioned former Reagan pollster Richard Wirthlin to survey Massachusetts voters on key issues. Wirthlin showed Romney a poll indicating any candidate describing himself as pro-life was unelectable in the state.
Before initiating his campaign against then-incumbent Senator Ted Kennedy, Romney informed the elders of his church about his decision to run as a supporter of abortion rights. In November 1993, Romney, Wirthlin, and Scott (all Mormons) presented their case to the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a courtesy. Romney, then a Mormon leader in his state, explained his would label himself personally opposed to abortion but would take no action to outlaw it, a view he later described as effectively pro-choice.
What about "pro-abort" Mitt?
Or, imagine you're a "devout Mormon." You've been offered cozy occasional directorship position for a local theater for $25,000 per year.
You find out that the theater shows family-rated fair. But there's a "back entrance" for their XXX showings. You also find out they give $ to Planned Parenthood.
Would you, as an alleged "devout Mormon," continue to take the position knowing that a portion of your salary comes from their porn industry intake? What would you feel knowing that this theater's $ goes to the largest child-killing organization in the world (Planned Parenthood)?
Well, that's Mitt Romney for you. He's done the exact equivalent of the above!!!
Oh...and Mitt's additional tie-in to ensuring Planned Parenthood has been funded? Well, look who's boycotted Marriott due to $ gifts to Planned Parenthood:
Life Decisions International
According to David Rosen at ix.netcom.com, "Romney received an annual fee of $25,000 and stock options while serving on the Marriott board. He also received a campaign contribution of $80,000 arranged by J.W. Marriott. Romney left the board position at some point in 2007 but rejoined after the campaign was over. During the first decade Romney was on the board (1992 on)
So, here was Marriott, offering its rooms as the "theater of choice" to the film distributor, On Command Corporation. And even more recently, what has On Command Corporation, which has since become LodgeNet, offered as titles for Marriott? According to this article -- Marriott Boycotted Over Porn -- published in Oct, 2009: The groups [AIDS Healthcare and Pink Cross Foundations] organized a "porn-in" last night at the Marriott on Figueroa Street downtown to launch the boycott. As we speak, the organizations contend, some businessman in a dark Marriott room somewhere across America is watching Just Explicit Sex, Naughty Office Workers, Mothers Do It Better, or Daddy's Girl Takes it All -- titles they say are offered by the chain, titles that feature condom-free sex.
Btw, even the Mormon-church owned Deseret News jumped on Romney in '07 for the Marriott-porn connection:
Even the Mormon church owned Deseret News wrote a July 10, 2007 editorial against Romney's open linkage to the porn industry: Romney caught a bit of flack last week because he spent nearly 10 years on the Marriott board and yet never tried to reverse the company's policy of providing pornography on demand, something J.W. "Bill" Marriott Jr., defended in a 2000 letter as being economically important. The corporation controls only a few of the hotels with its name on them. For a presidential candidate who has railed against pornography, this is not entirely insignificant. Even if the subject never came up at a board meeting, one can argue that at least part of the $25,000 plus stock he was paid annually for his board membership came from the money some hotel guests paid for access to the films.

Men of character lead by conviction, not by the polls.
It's time "conservative" or Republican operatives stopped trying to deceive the gullible about the Republican nominee.
