Obama and Romney: Character Shows
The American Thinker ^ | 7-9-12 | Karin McQuillan

Posted on 07/09/2012 6:19:23 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Character is consistent. Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president. The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, hype, and the distorting effects of TV.

~snip~

An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney. It is 1996. Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston. One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught. His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days. One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.

Did Romney offer sympathy and hope? Write a check for a private detective? Wait for the government to solve it? No -- he took responsibility. He took action. He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York. For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they'd seen the missing girl. Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200. He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain's success stories, to put fliers in every shopper's bag in their 52 stores. Romney set up a hotline. A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.

~snip~

Romney shows the missing girl's photo to a teenage girl on the street. She says to him, "No, I haven't seen her, but you're not the first person who came up and asked if I'd seen her. I wish my parents cared enough about me, to do something like this for me."

Thanks for answering the question, an exercise that seems beyond the capabilities of some others on this forum. Rick Santorum was my choice among those who actually put their hats in the ring. Unfortunately he was not deemed acceptable to many here either. I wonder if there is a human alive who would meet their “standards”?

I liked Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich.

I would prefer any of these three as President versus Romney.

But can you say that we would for sure be looking more likely to win the election in November if one of them was our candidate now?

I can't.

I was sick of Brown the first time.
My sister had a yard sign that said “keep California green stamp out Brown”.
I was born here (Santa Monica), raised in Santa Barbara, lived in Santa Cruz mountains during college and kids, now my husband and I moved back to Santa Barbara.
There are lots and lots of conservatives here, unfortunately the liberals all congregate together in clumps, districts are drawn to favor them and tada they win elections.
Reagan was a great governor.
Do you remember when he ran against Pat Brown?
Brown told a bunch of black kids to never forget it was an actor who shot Lincoln.
When Reagan was asked about it at a press conference, he did his famous smile laugh and said “and never forget Booth was a democrat”, even the press laughed.
There is always hope.
Prayers for your mom and your familie’s strength while caring for her.

Heaven knows he has little of personal reputation left...thats been torn to shreds by Willard

Newt did a great job of shredding his own reputation back when he ditched his seat in the House for his mistress. You can't blame Romney for that. I coudn't understand his odd behavior during the Clinton Impeachment debacle in 1998. He was very mild mannered and never attacked Clinton at the time, even though he was Speaker and had the power. The reason became apparent after his resignation when he anounced his pending divorce.

As Daniel P. Moynihan once quipped, "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts."

I don’t hang on the threads that the Bad People take over... it’s too demoralizing.

I don't find it demoralizing. I find it distracting from why I come here.

I sure don't come here to see a bunch of cut and paste screeds, or "historical facts about the Prophets" of blah, blah, blah.

It's irritating to have to scroll down through ad nauseum same old, same old postings from the same people. It's like Graffiti, IMHO, It detracts from the threads. I find it visually offensive.

As for the various lists people are compiling, those posters piling on to other Freepers in an uncivil manner, and to those who are trying to get some of their fellow freepers zotted- I recognize the names of those whose posts I wish to avoid.

For any list compilers on either side of the, IMHO, non-productive website wars, I already said my two cents worth here.

The truth always comes out.

The hatred of Mitt has less to do with his political positions and more to do with his religion.

It’s no different than the Sunni vs Shia battle in the Middle East.

Religious extremists have crucified more than one famous guy.

Jim, are YOU one of the "bad people"?

Well, I have some advice for you two...just stay over at TBL and keep on doing your complaining about FR and FReepers there. You aren't missed here and we really hate for you to become demoralized

What I find hilarious is that for all the "we are so civil and open and tolerant not like LOS" attitude at TBL, it's obvious that is total BS!

I don't know why Jim allows these known dual posters the opportunity to post the kind of crap you two have done on this thread!

Don't lie about me. I really have only two rules: Don't lie about me, and don't steal from me.

I've never said one word about FreeRepublic at TBL, nor have I ever participated in any TOS thread over there. When I posted here on the undead thread because I was pinged for my opinion as a Catholic, I pinged JR to my post.

I was responding to Altura's post, and I italicized that to which I was responding.

I never in charity label anyone as "bad". I believe in civility.

You obviously do not because you have no qualms about defaming me here, and attributing statements to me I haven't made. I find your comment about me to be dishonorable.

I’d like to ask these posters whom they would like to see nominated by the GOP and, further, to assess the chances of that happening?

I would have accepted Perry, Newt, Cain, Bachmann or Santorum.

It's too late now. Scott Walker in 2016.

At this point I would hate to see either Scott Walker, or St. Peter, nominated. The harpies on FR would rip them apart!

Religious extremists have crucified more than one famous guy.

Actually, 'twas ALL of our sin -- by ALL of us -- that led to the death of Christ. (He went to the cross willingly)

(Unless, of course, you think your sin was somehow above being covered by Christ's blood.)

I have never claimed that a Pres. Romney would govern in any way other than that which is politically expedient.

And, that and the fallout from that (Republicans losing Congress and, ultimately, the White House with another Obama taking over) is better than alternative (a growing Republican majority in Congress and a chance to elect someone like Scott Walker in 2016)?

You've learned nothing from two failed Bush Presidencies. Or do you go all the way back to Nixon? He was total failure as well.
