Some pundits are drawing comparisons between our current political climate and that of America just before the civil war. Theyre wrong.
This isnt 1859. Its 1775.
A government is a reflection of its people. At the founding, Americans saw freedom as a birthright. To protect that freedom, they designed an accountable government tethered by negative rights and constrained by competing powers. For the past century, Americans have been surrendering, little by little, their freedom for a little promised comfort. A century from now, the emergence of the tea party movement will be seen as one of two things: the death throes of liberty or the moment when Americans began to remember who they were.
If Obamacare is implemented in a second Obama administration, America will never recover. Once an entitlement is granted, its impossible to take away. By 2016, the word repeal will be considered politically toxic. Some insufferable moderate Republican of the future will label our current insufferable moderates as right-wing. Somehow the new normal is always to the left of where we were yesterday.
So what happens?
Two American versions of socialized medicine already exist. We can take a peek into our future by looking at the Veterans Administration and Indian reservations. Despite wonderful, faithful volunteers, the VA is forever undermanned and underfunded. Soldiers get worse waiting in long lines for essential surgery and treatment. Every few years, Americans are horrified by stories revealing how poorly we treat our vets. As for our Native American friends, they have a saying on the reservation that encapsulates their dilemma: Dont get sick after June.

The Intolerable Acts of 2012.
Bingo.
Roberts’ move equates to the Enabling Act of 1933 in Germany.
MUST READ: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933
It is of course not exactly the same thing, but a more obtuse route to the same ends: the executive is given broad powers by the legislature, and whatever powers he exercises without being granted face few challenges. ObamaCare contains a proliferation of “the Executive shall fill in this blank” with few practical restrictions.
Good catch. The line has been crossed. Reichstag fire and Krystalnacht are not far behind.
“In some ways, its July 16, 1936 and were in Madrid.”
I agree. The social and political analogs are many.
I have said many times that the United States on its present course will eventually go the way of the Soviet Union, and for similar reasons. Bankrupt, illegitimate and ossified, the central government will one day find itself ignored, disdained, and out of business.
“I like it except for what looks like a tomahawk. I dont see a connection.”
The participants at the original Boston Tea Party were dressed as:
1. Pilgrims?
2. Agent Smith?
3. Wild Indians?
I think the tomahawk is awesome. It was a common side arm during the revolution, harks back to the original tea party, and symbolizes heartfelt defiance. Much better than the swishy ribbons or surrealistic sphincters favored by some candidates.
Therefore: You can earn nothing, possess nothing, and have nothing if the federal government calls it a tax.
Whats left to do but dissolve the federal government?

Your analysis is correct, but there are a lot of very slow learners among those who are paying attention. Most are not paying attention.
The fake fight between the Democrat Left and the Republican Right is a diversion from what is really going on, the vertical aggression from the top down. People will figure it out, but the election show is meant to divert the gullible, and is still largely effective.
It makes me deeply sad to think you may well be right and we are headed down that road full speed, but history has shown us that when tyrants burden the middle class and poor with increasing regulations and taxes and takes everything they have so they themselves can live “well” and place themselves above the law it never ends well for the former. Reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the Mummy movie - “You know, nasty little fellows such as yourself always get their comeuppance.”
One thing that can’t be denied, Roberts put the ball squarely in our court. We now have two choices fifgt or die without fighting.Anybody with one eye and half sense know what their plans for us, along with our children are. The question that we only can answer is, What are we going to do?
A Franco or Benito Mussolini or Juan and Evita Peron are waiting in the wings even now. If the system breaks they will come out in front and lead the nation out of its problems. Think of Fascism as a terrible but potent medicine, its bitter but it works and saves the nation and her core beliefs. They only last as long as their leader and then evolve back to more democratic systems. But, like a bad medicine, Fascism has bad side effects. A leader will come forward with a plan—it might be a Newspaperman like Mussolini, or an actress like Evita, or a general—but they always come. It might be someone like Glen Beck.
We ABSOLUTELY should rally a challenge to Romney at the convention! At such an historically critical time as this, he is the worst possible choice we could have for a nominee.
I suggest that we have a rapid, on-line convention to choose a candidate. Palin seems obvious.
I concur 100%. I'll dispense with the superlatives, and simply say that she is by far, the very best we have, and should be our nominee without question. Compare her last CPAC speech to Romney's and the differences in quality between those two couldn't be more obvious. She would rally the center-right like no other could possibly do, and keep us motivated to stand and demand that our government shift back to its original scope and purpose.
The response to this ruling is just what was needed. A cause to rally around and wall to wall coverage. Romney’s plan in Masss. strips him of the crebibility needed to fight this program and lots of footage of Obama saying “this is not a tax” will cause him problems. Another candidate could walk in and take over the GOP convention in late August. The coverage from that alone will be three to four weeks of free publicity and would act as momentum- that would bring contributions and volunteers.
I honored. I just wish those weren’t the facts.
” I think that Roberts’ decision will be seen as similar to the enabling acts in Germany. Roberts’ decision is, in effect, the
Enabling Tyranny Act.”
That is EXACTLY what the hell it is!
More like 1918.
The statement is untrue. However, that's not necessarily the best of news. If an entitlement bankrupts a country or an empire, it takes itself away.
So if the entitlee is deceased, the entitlement is thereby moot and invalid? Well, THERE'S your solution....
There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want, merely because you think it would be good for him.
Robert A. Heinlein
Awesome, indeed, and effective. But pricy!
